− | | 005 || San is surprised that girls and boys are not separated by gender and is told that since they are children it's seen as fine. The girl introduces herself as [[Xiao Wu]] and says that her Martial Soul is the Soft Boned Rabbit. San tells her that his is the Blue Silver Grass and that her soul type would see his as food. The other boys then pressure San into challenging her to a fight which she agrees to. After skillfully exchanging blows for a couple minutes Wu manages to get under San's guard and lands a strong kick to the stomach (Waist Bow her [[Xiao Wu/Abilities#1st%20Spirit%20Ring|'''1st Spirit Ring''']]), knocking San to the ground and claiming the title of Boss, which she excitedly accepts. San is bemused with her martial arts style which she calls Soft Skill since he hasn't seen anything like it before, while the other boys are astonished that both "working students" (since they both have to do jobs to pay for their food and such) are so strong. San then claims a bed with Wu quickly claiming the one beside it, where she asks what San's Soul Power is, which he replies Innate Full Power much to the surprise of everyone in the dorm. A man then enters the dorm carrying a large blanket asking for San, introducing himself as teacher Mo Hen, before giving the blanket to San and listing the jobs he and Wu have to do as working students, before leaving. When Wu makes an indication of wanting the blanket, all the other boys offer theirs, but she turns them down insisting on Sans. He argues that that is his only one and Wu insists they can share, before making a exasperated San push their beds together so they can. |
||
− | Next it shows San, Wu, and Cheng entering a large 2 story lunchroom and Wu commenting on its size, drawing the attention of a group of boys on the second floor. They insult Cheng and the Hostel 7, leading to Cheng explaining to an angered Wu that the second floor is for the 'rich' kids while the poor and working students eat on the first. The boys walk off to eat and Wu tries to go up to confront them, but is stopped by San, before reluctantly letting it go. San then sees the Grandmaster and runs up to him, where the Grandmaster asks him if has gotten settled in and San thanks him for the bedding. Grandmaster then invites San to eat with him on the second floor, but San turns him down saying he would like to eat with his dorm mates, which Grandmaster accepts and tells him to meet him at the gates when he's done. Cheng asks him if he knows the Grandmaster and San says yes and that he is his Master, which Cheng is shocked over and says how even though Grandmaster is almost 50 he still hasn't gotten past level 29, and is seen as dysfunctional and weak because of that, which angers San who tells him not to talk about his Master like that again. |

− | Next is Grandmaster and San entering Grandmaster's office where Grandmaster gives San food and tells him to eat it quickly, which he does (working students don't get much food yet until they earn it). Grandmaster then asks San to show his second Soul, and San brings out the Hammer, which Grandmaster is surprised by, but quickly recovers after repeating San's last name (easily figuring out who San's father is). Grandmaster then says not to show the Hammer to anyone else and to definitely not give the Hammer any Rings, which San proclaims that's what his father said. Grandmaster then asks what his fathers' profession is and San says Blacksmith, which Grandmaster is first surprised over before bemusedly saying how 'perfect' that was. San asks why he can't add Rings to it, but the Grandmaster just says that it was important that he didn't, which San reluctantly agrees with trusting both Grandmaster and his father. Grandmaster then said that they would be getting San's first Ring tomorrow and asks San's opinion on his Blue Silver Grass, which San says since it is a Martial Soul it's bound to have its own meaning and use. Grandmaster agrees and says he wants to discuss the direction of it's growth. He then explains how there are two types of Souls; Beast Souls, where the person can add the power of the beast to their own achieving human-spirit unity to launch an attack (called Spirit Enhancement), and Tool Souls, where the vast majority can be used independent of the body and are of a 'assisting' nature (this category includes Food Souls, which can be eaten). He then says how Tool Souls are categorized; Food System, Detection System, Healing system, and Controlling system, and how depending on which system your aiming for you need to be careful of what Rings you get. San asks which system he should go for and Grandmaster explains how according to his research the Grass should have advantages since 1) the Spirit Power consumption of the Grass is low, 2) it's everywhere, and 3) it can conduct growth in many directions and cannot reject any Spirit Ring attribute evolution. San asks if a Ring can be rejected and Grandmaster says that it can if the Ring isn't compatible with your Martial Soul. He then says San has a 4th advantage unique to him... |

2018 |
006 | Grandmaster explains how since Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul's tend to have weak Soul Power, training them take too much time, which is why Douluo Continent hasn't had a Blue Silver Grass Spirit Master, but since San has Innate Full Soul power he doesn't have that weakness. He then says San should aim for the Controlling System and that the Ring San gains should be aimed toward toughness (to cancel out the frailty of a plant) and poison, allowing him to limit his opponents movements and slow them down with poisons, which he can then attack (San thinks Hidden Weapons here). Grandmaster then dismisses San saying he will pick him up tomorrow.
Outside in the courtyard San tells Wu he's leaving school tomorrow and she camplains saying she'll have to do both their 'chores' (jobs for the working students), which San says he'll take care of both their duties when he gets back for a while, which she agrees to. San then turns to leave before Wu suddenly says she wants to spar again saying she doesn't accept her previous victory. San agrees but she takes him by surprise (throwing him with her braid, lol) and they fight a little before Wu pins San to the ground asking if he gives up where he says no. Before they can continue a teacher(?) comes out to yell at they for being loud and finds them with Wu on top of San, drawing the wrong conclusion. The teacher yells at them a little before Wu uses her favorite technique her, which she calls Rabbit Kicking Eagle, knocking the teacher into a bush to give her temporary amnesia. They then continue their fight, with San using the Purple Demon Eyes to read Wu's moves, before he lands several hits on her using pebbles when she tells him to stop dodging and attack. She refuses to accept the hits as a win and they continue, waking up many with the noise. The next morning San is in a carriage with Grandmaster and he starts to explain the five different types of Spirit Breasts; 10 year (White Ring) , 100 year (Yellow Ring), 1,000 year (Purple Ring), 10,000 year (Black Ring), and 100,000 year (Red Ring), saying that the older the Spirit Beast the more powerful the ability you gain from it. He then says they are going to the Spirit Hunting Forest to find San a 100 year Spirit Beast. San asks if Spirit Beasts can be hunted in groups and Grandmaster says yes Nobles tend to do so, and that it is necessary for the older ones. He then explains that only the person that directly kills the Beast can absorb the Ring and that the Spirit Ring of the Beasts don't last very long after the Beasts' death. He also says the Spirit Beasts tend to be very proud so they would rather explode their own Spirit Power then let a human get it, which is why just capturing them is near impossible, and that even when you get the Ring unless your will is stronger then the Beast, the Beast can still kill you as you absorb the Ring. Grandmaster then gives San a belt with jade stones (a spirit tool) that can be used to store objects inside (think portable inventory, like in a game), and says he's been holding onto it for 30 years but hasn't used it. He then asks San to name it which he does; 24 Moonlit Bridges (in honor of the Tang Sect), which Grandmaster approves of. Grandmaster and San arrive to the Forest entrance, where a lot of people are seen attempting to recruit others to make a hunting party. San comments on that and Grandmaster explains how a 'perfect' hunting party includes five factors; a Food system spirit master for supplies, a Healing system spirit master for condition and Spirit Power restoration, a Agility system spirit master for reconnaissance, a Strength system battle (Beast Soul) spirit master for defense, and a Attack system battle spirit master for attacking. He also says that a group shouldn't be formed in a day because there needs to be absolute trust in the members with each other, and that you should only form a group with people you can 'show your back to'. Upon making it to the heavily guarded gate leading into the forest Grandmaster explains that only Spirit Masters with a warrant issued by Martial Hall (Spirit Hall, but will be called Martial Hall for simplicity) can enter the forest and hunt Spirit Beasts. San asks it the Forest belongs to Martial Hall or the country, but Grandmaster shushes him and says not to asks such questions there, saying he'll explain the relationship between Martial Hall and the country later (ooohhh, foreshadowing, fun). He then says to get a warrant you need Martial Halls approval, be at least at the level to need a Ring, and get 3 Nobles approval. Showing San the warrant he explains that each warrant has 6 symbols and that the more symbols that are lit up on the badge (he has 3 lit up) the more respect the person has in/from Martial Hall, and points out the first 2 of six symbols on the warrant to San, a sword and hammer, saying you need at least those two to enter the forest. San asks if Tool Souls are considered lesser then Beast Souls, which Grandmaster says no and that a persons power is dependent on their cultivation (usually through meditation), not their Soul Type. As they approach the guards at the gate Grandmaster explains that each symbol on the warrant represent the top 3 clans of the two countries of Douluo Continent; the Heaven Dou Empire (where they are) and the Star Luo Empire (Martial Hall is situated in between these two countries and is considered neutral). Grandmaster then hands the warrant to the guard where they then promptly open the gate. They enter the forest and after walking for a bit, are surrounded by a pack of wolves... |

007 | Grandmaster summons his Martial Soul, which takes the form of a small chubby dog with a bell, scaring off the wolves. Grandmaster calls the dog Luo San Pao. Since Beast Souls' are usually manifested in the person San asks why Pao is separate from Grandmaster, which he replies it's because Pao is a Variant Type, but is the weaker type version which is why Grandmaster has trouble leveling up, so he instead studies Martial Soul theories. He then says Pao can other launch attacks three times (which contributed to his name) and directs Pao to walk in front of them. They run across several 10 year Beasts and San asks how Grandmaster can tell their age, which he replies that it can be deduced from the color of their auras when they are attacked and are the same as their Spirit Rings. He then says that the ideal age for a first Ring should be 423 years and that they should aim for that.
As they rest for the night inside of a protection ring of powder Grandmaster tells San to not use a fire in a Spirit Forest as there are a few strong Spirit Beasts that are drawn to fire (unless your own level is high). Pao then jumps up and starts growling, and they stand and see they are being surrounded by what Grandmaster calls Hell Wolves (all are 10 year though). Grandmaster then activates Pao's attack, which is actually a combustive fart, which knocks 3 wolves into a tree and chases away the rest. Grandmaster then kills the 3 wolves and 3 white Rings appear, which Grandmaster summons to himself, then says since he hasn't reached 30 he can't absorb them and they will disperse in 2 hours. San, at Grandmaster's request, then feeds Pao 2 radishes, which Grandmaster explains the replenish Pao's 'attack' in 1 hour. San wonders how a sophisticated guy like Grandmaster actually feels about using a fart as an attack. Then suddenly a green poisonous gas streams toward them, putting them on defense, while San uses Purple Demon Eyes and sees a large snake which he points out to Grandmaster, who calls it a Datura Snake and wonders what one is doing in the forest. He then goes on how formidable one is (strong venom, tough body, extremely fast, etc.) and how the mouth and eyes are its only weakness. He then uses Pao to attack, before grabbing San's hand and running, saying that given the length of the snakes body it's over 400 years old. The snake isn't phased by Pao's attacks and Grandmaster tries to have Pao delay the snake, saying Datura's are known for being impatient. However the snake bit into Pao's leg before it could react and Grandmaster quickly summons his Martial Soul back to him. San then starts throwing radishes at the snake with great accuracy, then turns and shoots the snake with one of his wrist darts, but it bounces off the snakes scales. He then dodges the snakes attacks a couple of times before managing to get a dagger he pulled out through the snakes mouth using the Xuan Yu Hand. He then fakes fear and weakness in front of Grandmaster hoping he hadn't seen what he did, and Grandmaster checks him over frantically and calmly accepts his excuses of stumbling and accidentally lodging the dagger into the snakes mouth (though given how observant Grandmaster is he probably saw the whole thing and just didn't call San on it since the kid was trying so desperately to deflect). He then said how the snake would make the perfect first Ring for San since the Blue Silver Grass will passively accept any additions and power-ups to it, and the snake has both toughness and poison, which is what they were aiming for. San wonders if he can absorb a Beast type with a Plant Type Martial Soul, and Grandmaster said according to his ten core concept theories, he can. He then says that everyone has always laughed at him and never believed his theories, and asks San if he was willing to believe them, even though nobody has been willing to try out any of them. San says he believes him and will prove one of his theories right by absorbing the Ring. He then summons the Ring and starts meditating, absorbing the Ring (though it did put up a little bit of a fight), which causes his Blue Silver Grass Martial Spirit to transform and become much larger. He also finally get's past the barrier of Mysterious Heaven Skill's 1st level. When San comes out of his meditation he finds Grandmaster laying next to him unconscious and giving symptoms of being poisoned... |

008 | San quickly realizes that Grandmaster had been poisoned by the Snake via Pao when the snake had bitten Pao's leg and Grandmaster had called his Martial Soul back. Using the Xuan Yu Hands and a poison removal technique taught to him by his father San is able to remove the poison out of Grandmaster's body via a cut on his wrist. After a while Grandmaster comes around and is surprised and relieved he's alive. He then asks San if he was successful at absorbing the Soul Ring and San summons his upgraded Blue Silver Grass and demonstrates its new ability; he can quickly launch a snaking vine like attack up to 50 meters, entangling and binding his opponent, as well as paralyzing them via poison. After demonstrating that Grandmaster is happy that his Ring gave him both toughness and poison and the two head back to the school. When they get to Grandmaster's room San helps him lay down, and after asking him if he needs anything Grandmaster insists that San continue his cultivation and not worry about him, giving San a book of notes he wrote to help. He also tells San to go to Nuoding Spirit Hall to register that his is now a Spirit Master, which will also make him no longer a working student. San agrees and leaves, deciding to go find Wu and the others.
Scene change to Wu and the Hostel 7 facing off a group of 'rich' kids (including the same ones that insulted them in the lunch room from the second floor) in a forest meadow (apparently it is to find out who is the 'Boss' of the school? Or Wu challenged them for being jerks, not sure). Insults are exchanged and it's decided on a ten-on-ten fight. Sheng goes first and starts loosing against a staff Tool Soul user. San arrives during the fight commenting how Sheng isn't good with close combat. Wu is happy he is back before asking if he thought she was too impulsive for challenging the other group. San says it was fine since they should stand up for themselves, but that they should have waited for him to get back, which she remarks on the comments made by the other groups' leader and how she wasn't going to tolerate it. Sheng is then knocked to the ground but as the staff user closes in to deliver another blow San flicks high speed pebbles at him, causing him to stumble and letting Cheng recover and get the upper hand, managing to with the match. The other group then sends out another guy, which Wu summons Cheng back and sends out San, who then promptly beats his opponent with one hit. The leader of the group then walks out and introduces himself as a level 11 Wolf Martial Soul Spirit Master. When San says he had Blue Silver Grass they all laugh until his states that he too is a level 11 Spirit Master and shows his 100 year Ring. The leader attacks him and he deflects the attacks using Xuan Yu Hands, before using his first Ring ability to bind the leader and threatening to use the snakes' poison if the guy doesn't surrender, which he quickly does. After confirming that the group now has to call Wu 'Boss' (and stating he had lost to her much to everyone's surprise), San says he has things to do and to wrap things up. Wu then fully introduces herself and admits to being a level 12 Soft Boned Rabbit Spirit Master, which promptly causes everyone to immediately call her Boss, and surprises San. Wu then states that since San has Innate Soul Power he shouldn't be surprised that she can have it too, to which San comments that she really is a rabbit, which flusters her and causes her to yell at him to leave, to his amusement, which he does. San then makes his way to the towns Spirit Hall, musing that since there are many Sects in that world, perhaps he can start a Tang Sect. He gets there and asks where he can evaluate his Martial Soul and is told to find Grandmaster Ma Xiu-Nuo on the first floor reception. Upon entering he finds an old man talking to Su Yuntao (the man who awoke his Martial Soul). Yuntao introduces him to Nuo, as they had been talking about him and his unique circumstance, before leaving, while Nuo takes San further into the building. |

009 | As they enter a room with the stone that will evaluate San's Martial Soul, Nuo tells San about the different Spirit Halls and how they are ranked (the higher ones deal with the higher levels); first Branch Spirit Halls (where they are at) which are in small villages, then Child Spirit Halls, then Lord Spirit Halls (which are placed in great cities), then the Saint Spirit Halls (only 4, 2 in the capitals of both countries), then Papal Hall (only one), with the legendary Douluo Consecration Hall being the highest rank (only Douluo's (level 90 and above) can enter). They then start the evaluation and Nuo is surprised by the form the Blue Silver Grass has taken, before stating that it's a shame the Grass's cultivation rate is so slow. He then brings out the orb to check San's level, thinking that it should be barely 11, and is astonished that it is actually now level 13 (huh, apparently San lied earlier about it being 11 during the fight). Nuo then asks where San got his Ring (trying to figure out how he jumped 2 levels) and San admits it's the Datura Snake, which confuses Nuo since the snake is an animal and not a plant. San then explains that his Master said that it's possible under certain circumstances, and when Nuo asks who his Master is, San states it's who everyone calls Grandmaster. Nuo recognizes who that is, asking/stating it's the same man that had published his 10 great core competencies and was afterwards expelled form Martial Hall. San is surprised that Grandmaster had been a part of Martial Hall. Nuo then asks San if he wanted to join Martial Hall (Martial Hall is apparently in charge of all the Spirit Halls) so that San can join a Spirit Hall special institution, but San states how he has already joined Nuoding Academy, much to Nuo's dismay. Nuo laments how Tao should have brought San straight to Spirit Hall, but San rebuts that he wouldn't have such a great Ring if he had, with Nuo begrudgingly agrees with. Nuo then welcomes San as a Spirit Master.
San leaves the Spirit Hall, but on his way runs across some blacksmiths forging weapons in a street stall. San approaches and asks if they are looking for any apprentices, which amuses the blacksmiths, but since San persists they start to humor him. San states that his father is a blacksmith and that he learned a lot from him, including forging, also saying that he is stronger then he looks, further amusing the blacksmiths. San asks to be taken seriously and the blacksmith he is talking to puts down his hammer and asks that San prove it by picking it up. San views the hot iron the blacksmith was working on, declaring it needs to be hotter and putting it back in the fire. There's then a flashback of his father teaching him forging, telling him that the body has 3 hearts, that the other two hearts are in the back of your calves, and that forging requires the use of all three hearts. He then shows him how to hammer consecutively using momentum, saying not to go for power blindly and that accuracy is just as important. Back in the present San takes the iron out of the fire and starts hammering it using his father's method, astonishing all the blacksmiths, and the one he's interacting with identifies his hammering as the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer Method, which is apparently the most powerful continuous forging art. As the blacksmith is explaining how awesome the method is a hooded stranger is seen observing the interaction, but when San notices eyes on himself and turns, the stranger is gone. Story then jumps to one year later where San is walking to his home after being gone for a year, with Wu accompanying him, and him warning her how he is poor and his dad has a bad temper (and her not caring). They get to his house and San calls out a few times with no response. Grandpa Jack then comes out of the back room, asking why San came back early and alone, which San says he wasn't alone and introduces Wu, then asks where his father is. Jack admits being there to get his father so that they could pick San up together, but says that all he could find was a note, which he hands to San. The note states how when the note reaches him Hao will be already gone, not to look for him because he won't find him, and that San needs to spread his wings and find his own path. Hao then says he needs to get back some things that were his, and that they would inevitably meet again some day. Hao goes on saying the San is a lot like his mother, then says that if the day comes he doesn't want to be a Spirit Master anymore he can return to the village and be a blacksmith. San is understandably upset and thanks Jack, who nods and leaves, before he silently starts putting his stuff away with Wu. |

2018 |
010 | Starts out back at the academy where Grandmaster gets a surprise visitor; Tang Hao. He asks Hao why he was there since San had already returned home, and Hao says that's why he's there, to talk to Grandmaster. Hao then says all that matters is his son, but that he had to leave, and that he wanted to entrust San to Grandmaster. Grandmaster asks why he is leaving, and Hao says there are things he must do and that San cannot achieve happiness with him, that he must choose his own path, even if it is extraordinary, and that he believed in him. Grandmaster states that Hao leaving would be cruel since San is attached to him and looks up to him, but Hao says San staying with him would be cruel to San. Hao then tells Grandmaster to always remember that San is his son before giving Grandmaster a Martial Hall Warrant with all six symbols fully lit up and leaving.
Back at San's home San thanks Wu for keeping him company, which she tries to cheer him up saying he'll see his father again and pointing out that maybe his father did it so that he could become stronger on his own, and that San just being depressed is disappointing his efforts. San points out that his dad is his family and loved one and that home without him isn't home. Wu then says that if San needs a family member she can be his sister. San smiles and states he wouldn't mind a younger sister, which Wu pouts over and says she will only be an older sister. San then asks Wu to go to a hill with him cause he wants to show her something, and she agrees. San takes her to a hill covered in flowers and tells her that is where he used to meditate, before telling her he wants to ask a serious question and wants a serious answer. He then asks her seriously if she would be his younger sister, saying he really wants another loved one, though he can give her neither wealth nor power, but can give her a promise; that he will always protect his little sister and not let her come to the slightest harm. Wu looks hesitant and slightly scared and asks if one day there are a lot of people wanting to kill her, and that he was unable to defeat those people, what would he do, San replies that they would have to step over his corpse to get her, surprising her. She then calls him Bro hesitantly and he thanks her. She then starts teasing him and running through the flowers, he chases her for a moment before telling her he has something for her and giving her one of his Silent Sleeve Dart Hidden Weapons. After further teasing on her part he states that he could hit the wings of the mosquito a little ways from them without killing it. Wu is disbelieving so San activates Purple Demon Eyes and nails the mosquitoes' wing with a needle, astonishing Wu. San says he wanted to show Wu he could protect her and she insists he teach her how to do that, which he says no teasingly saying she is too violent, before telling her to learn how to use the sleeve dart first. San then walks a little ways thinking that he will become a man his father will be proud of, and that even if he has left the Tang Sect it is still a part of who he was and he wanted it to be a part of that world too. Time skip 5 years now and San and Wu are in Suotuo City at request of Grandmaster for San to apply to join the intermediary school Shrek Academy (yes they are 12 now, no they do not look 12 at all (they look late teens really) so you have to constantly remind yourself that they are indeed, 12). San teases Wu about accompanying him, and she teases back that as the younger sister she's obligated to. They then search for accommodations and Wu chooses a hotel called the Rose Hotel, to San's reluctance. When they asks for two rooms they are told there is only one available, the Rose Suite, and Wu says that is fine to San's embarrassment. Before the receptionist can say much more a voice interrupts saying that that room should be his and San and Wu turn around to see a blonde teen (I think he's supposed to be 14 or 15, but like San and Wu (and all the other teens in this story really) he looks older) with two women hanging off of him. When the receptionist asks who the blonde is he demands his manager, which he runs to get. San and Wu point out that they were there first, and the blonde comments how it's been a while since anyone has spoken to him like that, before stating that they must be Spirit Masters and that if they want him to leave they should fight with him together. The manager then interrupts, apologizing to the blonde, saying that newcomers don't know the rule and that he will get him the room. Wu states that the room is theirs and that she won't be bullied by snobs. The blonde steps forward to accept her challenge, and when the manager comments on damage costs the blonde states he will cover it, which the manager reluctantly agrees to. Wu tries to step forward to fight, but San stops her stating he will do it as he has sworn to always protect her. He then takes a combat pose and asks the blonde to 'kindly advise' him, which causing the older teen to smile. |

2018 |
011 | The blonde starts out with a punch which San is able to match, causing the blonde to comment that since he can stop his punch he can be his opponent. San then activates Xuan Yu Hands and with a combination of those and Tang Sect Martial Arts is able to push the blonde back near the doors. San asks if the blonde wants to continue, to which he says of course but since San is now forcing him to use Spirit Power the blonde will take it as his own loss, but now wants to measure Sans' strength out of curiosity. He then summons his Martial Soul, White Tiger, and has 3 Rings, one in which is a 1000 year ring (purple), showing himself to be a level 37 Spirit Grandmaster. San then summons his Blue Silver Grass, stating that he is a level 29 Spirit Master. The blonde looks bemused at San's Martial Soul being Blue Silver Grass, and San states there are no worthless Martial Souls, only worthless Spirit Masters. The blonde states that is well spoken and he wants to see what San's peculiar Soul can do. The fight continues with San dodging the blonde's attacks and trying to entrap the blonde in the vines of his First Ring. The blonde starts having trouble cutting the vines with is Martial Souls' claws as the fight goes on, so he uses his First Ring to block the attack, then his Second Ring to blow San's vines away while stating that a Beast Martial Soul will always be more powerful then a Tool Martial Soul. San states that is not always so and uses the pieces of his vines that were blown away to ensnare the blonde from multiple directions, telling the blonde that with the paralyzing venom now in his system, he looses. The blonde then laughs and says that if he had had only 2 Rings, he would have lost, before activating his Third Ring, breaking out of Sans trap and knocking San back. The blonde then says that the Blue Silver Grass's toughness surprised him, but that his 3rd Ring doubles his power for 30 minutes, which at level 37 means that Sans' poison can't harm him and the San can't match his strength. He then says that San has an exquisite Martial Soul and is an effective Control System type, before turning saying he believes they will meet again very soon, and that on their way to Shrek Academy if anyone gives them trouble to give them his name; Evil Eye White Tiger Dai Mubai. Wu asks how Mubai knew they were going to Shrek academy, and Mubai laughs saying he will see them there, before walking out with the two girls.
Wu tells San that they should have no interactions with Mubai at Shrek Academy, but San says he doesn't think Mubai is so bad and is actually a straightforward guy. Wu calls Mubai lewd for being overly apparent with his intentions with the two girls with him, but San still argues that he appears to be an okay guy, mentioning that even though Mubai's strength was above theirs he didn't use it to bully them, gave them the room, and even offered to look out for them. San then comments how much of a difference in strength one more Ring makes, saying that even him and Wu together would not have won, then saying that if it had been a fight to the death he would lose, but had a 70% chance of taking Mubai with him. They them make it to the room, San noting that it appears to be entirely for couples and Wu saying she doesn't care. The room is a large suite filled with roses and while Wu is loving it San looks awkward, especially when Wu states they should stay there often. Upon entering the bedroom and seeing the large heart shaped bed, San states he's going to sleep on the sofa as Wu excitedly jumps on the bed, leaving the bedroom. San then sits down on the sofa and starts meditating on the fight, thinking how a Hidden Weapon could break through the barrier of Mubai's First Ring. Flashback of San hunting down an intruder in the Tang Sect, the intruder having an excellent defense barrier. San then uses a golden needle, which breaks through the barrier and hits the guy killing him, as per the rules on how to deal with intruders. The next day San and Wu are wondering around town and decide to check out an antique shop, run by a man in the back rocking in a rocking chair reading. They start perusing and San notices a interesting yellow stone and picks it up, proclaiming with surprise that it is a hair crystal. Wu asks if he's going to buy that ugly crystal and the man offhandedly states that it is cheap at 100 gold coins. Wu states that 100 gold coins for a broken crystal is robbery and the man says that that is the cheapest price there before telling them uninterestedly to leave if they don't have money. Wu gets mad but San says he'll buy it, to which the guy says it's now 200 gold coins, upsetting Wu further, but when San still insists the guy raises it to 500 gold coins, to which San gives up and they start to leave. The man then says that he'll accept 200 coins now, and that San can pay the rest in monthly installments of 10 coins, with 10% interest. Wu calls the man deceitful while San realizes that the man can tell he's a Spirit Master because he's able to base the price off of San's pay that he gets from Spirit Hall. San wonders how he knows. |

012 | Despite Wu's insistence not to San agrees with the deal, which appears to make the man pause, after which he finally looks away from his book to them. The man immediately notices (and recognizes) the 24 Moonlit Bridges belt San is wearing and asks San where he got it, which San responds from his Master and asks if the man knows of it. The man states that he didn't expect San to be His disciple before turning away and telling San to just take the crystal with a hand wave. San says he will be back next month with the next payment while walking forward with a sack of 200 coins when the man says to just take it as a gift and go because they are disturbing his sleep. San concludes he must know his Master while Wu walks over and grabs the crystal, before trying to pull San out the door. San stops and asks the man if he's serious, but gets no answer, so he walks over and leaves the 200 coins on the counter before leaving with Wu. The man then gets up and walks over to the closed door, looking over at the coin sacks and asking aloud if Grandmaster is finally going to stop hiding.
Back at the hotel San takes a hammer out of his inventory and strikes the crystal causing it to break into dozens of smaller stones that levitate around San and Wu. The stones sparkle then turn into small round golden balls, which San asks Wu to help him quickly gather. Wu helps him and when they get them all she asks what has San so excited about them. San explains that some crystals, when affected by the outside world, will become Plate Crystal Gold, and will grow golden threads inside of them, and that the threads are extremely tough and flexible. Wu is still confused and asks what you do with it, which San takes a ball (storing the rest in his inventory) and rests it in his hand. The ball immediately turns into a needle and San states that the threads will turn into grain when they leave the protection of the crystal, but that infusing Soul Power to then will turn them into needles. Wu asks what for and San throws the needle at the bed, which appears to rotate on impact and leaving a large hole in the bedspread. San asks Wu if she remembers the hidden weapons he told her about, and elaborates that the Golden Hair's (or Dragon Beard Needle) piercing power is extremely strong, then asks what she thought would happen if you pierced a human body with that. Wu looks surprised, before rushing to the bed and pulling the needle out using Soul Power, looking at it with awe. San states that unless the person who's Soul Power is infused with the Golden Hair removes it, the affected area of muscle would have to be surgically removed, then saying that it is a Natural Hidden Weapon. After a moment Wu states that the weapon is too vicious, but San contradicts her saying whether a weapon is vicious is up to the person who uses it, and that using it to punish an evil person is suitable. The next morning San and Wu walk to the Shrek Academy gates (well, San walks giving Wu a piggy-back ride) and come upon a long line. The line is for registration and has a ten gold registration fee (whether you're accepted or not, lol), and also a rule that those over 13 can't register (no idea why). When one of the parents whose kid is over age demands his money back, the teacher doing registration calls out to Mubai (who's chilling in the tree nearby) to handle it. Mubai then tells the man he can have a full refund if he can beat him, before summoning out his three Soul Rings, causing the man to immediately back down and leave. The teacher then says those registering should be clear of the rules; that the Academy, which is named after an obscure and powerful monster, only accepts 'monsters' (no 'ordinary' people), and that you have to be younger than 13 but be at least level 21. Some people leave at this and Mubai notices San and Wu and grins. Next person up is a long haired brunette in a teal dress , and when the teacher checks her Soul Power he abruptly stands up asking if her parents know she is there. The girl argues that education is for everyone regardless of background and that she should meet the academy's requirements. The teacher turns to Mubai, who clears his throat and asks her to come over. Next is San and Wu, the teacher checks Wu and says she is suitable before checking San and looking surprised, asking if he practices some spirit techniques, which San says yes. The teacher then asks to check his calves and says the muscle development is good, before asking to see their Martial Souls. He identifies Wu as a rabbit and is surprised at Sans' being Blue Silver Grass considering his high cultivation rate, which San responds with asking if he would be considered a 'monster'. The teacher laughs and asks Mubai to bring them in, which Mubai happily agrees to. On their way to the gates though Mubai seems to sense something and pausing, looking back toward the line. When San asks him what's wrong he says nothing and they continue walking through the gate, with Mubai looking over his should. Wu sarcastically asks if he saw a girl he wants to hook up with and he states that he felt something familiar, like a Martial Soul that compliments his own, saying that in the spirit world, that is actually quite difficult, and when it does happen the Martial Souls can combine and increase their strength twofold (this is called Spirit Harmonization and Spirit Fusion). Mubai then leads them to the next test area and leaves them there, going back to the gate. As San and Wu get in line for the next test, a young man wheels up in a food cart calling out about selling sausages. |

013 | San asks Wu if she wants a sausage and she says yes, so he asks her to save his place in line and walks over to the cart. The man, who has white hair, goggles on his forehead, and a beard, says each Oscar sausage is 5 bronze coins. San asks for 2 and calls the man 'uncle' (used for men by kids, kind of like 'Mr.') and the guy gets upset, saying that he's only 14 and an academy student, much to San's surprise. After San gives the guy the money Mubai calls out to San from where he is leading a dark brown haired girl with purple clothing towards the second test and joins San at the cart, before telling off 'Oscar' for trying to sell his sausages at the academy, then telling San he can't eat the sausage. San asks why, and Mubai asks Oscar to make a new sausage, which Oscar argues against asking if Mubai is trying to get the new students to hate him and to have mercy, to which Mubai states that San is his little brother so no mercy. Oscar then calls out "I, your father has a big sausage!", making San look horrified, and literally pulls the sausage out of his right hand using his left. After a minute of silence with the purple dressed girl snickering in the background, Oscar explains that he can't help it, and that when using Food System spirits to let food change one must join with different spirit incantation words, which he has no control over. San then sets the two sausages that he's holding back on the cart and thanks Mubai for the warning, causing Oscar to complain how even though his sausages are delicious no one wants to eat them. Mubai tells him to sell his sausages outside the academy and walks San and the girl back to the second test line, causing Wu to ask where her sausage was.
San and Mubai exchange glances before they both start laughing, and San walks up to Wu and whispers about the interaction to her, causing her to blush and proclaim boys as mortifying and ask why there could be such a Martial Soul. Mubai comments that they are in Shrek Academy, so everyone has strange Martial Souls. Mubai then says they need to get their test over with and takes them past the line despite San's protest at special treatment, saying that they deserve special treatment and are heading to the fourth test. The other kids in line protest and Mubai pauses and comments if their Soul Power is also over level 25 then they can come directly to the fourth test too. The kids say that that is impossible and Mubai tosses an orb that shows level via light (same type Yuntao used at San's Martial Soul Awakening) to San and asks him to show his level, which he does, the light intensity revealing him to be level 29, causing some of the kids to ask if he is even human. San then hands the orb to Wu, who also reveals herself to be level 29, astonishing the kids further. Then someone comments that they should be excused from the 2nd and 3rd test too and the brown haired girl in the teal dress from before approaches Wu and accepts the orb from her, revealing herself to be level 26. Right as the light settles down the orb is quickly snatched from the girl by the girl with purple clothes (causing Mubai to smile slightly), who reveals herself to be level 27. Mubai then asks if there are any more objections. As they are walking to the fourth test Mubai shares that the academy currently only has three students, including Oscar and himself, stating that they are the only academy where there are more teachers then students, and that in the 20 years it had been open it has only recruited 42 students. San asks how the academy can stay afloat and Mubai comments that's why they are in such a small village, and that thanks to his family sponsoring it last year Shrek was able to stay open. Wu asks why Shrek doesn't relax it's entrance requirements, and Mubai states that the Dean said that even if the Academy closed, it would never accept rubbish, only monsters. He then asks them if they knew what the requirements for graduation were, when they say no he elaborates; exceeding level 40 before 20 years old, becoming a Spirit Ancestor (levels 40-49). He then says only 14 people have actually graduated. They get to a courtyard and Mubai tells the burly man waiting there that he brought people for the fourth test. The man remarks how there are 4, and Mubai says they were exempted for the 2nd and 3rd exam. The man introduces himself as Zhao Wuji and states he will personally test them, much to Mubai's surprise/slight horror. Zhao then says he'll give them the time of a stick of incense (I think that's like an hour, might be a half an hour) to get to know each other, and when the time is up they are to team up to withstand his attacks; if even one person is still standing by the end they all pass. Mubai objects to that and Zhao states that since the Dean isn't currently in the academy his word is law, and that Mubai can tell the other 4 about him, before he lights the incense and sit down with his eyes closed. Mubai, depressed, approaches them, and after some comments from Wu, tells the group that Zhao is a level 76 Spirit Saint (level 70-79) with a Vigorous Vajra Bear Martial Soul, and that his strength is second only to the Dean. |

014 | Mubai tells them that Zhao has high defense capabilities and that his only weakness would be speed, but that none of them would really be able to take advantage of that. He then tells them Zhao's nickname; Motionless Bright King Zhao Wuji, a name that the brunette recognizes, which she explains how years ago Zhao offended Martial Hall, so they banished him and sent 16 people to kill him, but were unsuccessful. Mubai then tells them to quickly get to know each other and everyone's' abilities, with San going first saying he's Control System with Blue Silver Grass. Wu goes next saying Assault System Rabbit, then the girl in purple goes next saying her name is Zhu Zhuqing and she's a Agility Attack System Hell Civet, followed by the brunette introducing herself as Ning Rongrong, a Auxiliary System Tool Spirit Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda (7 Treasure for simplicity). This surprises everyone as the 7 Treasure Martial Soul is considered the most powerful Auxiliary Soul in the Douluo Continent. Rongrong tells them not to stare as she's a normal girl (who apparently had run away from home, lol) and that her first and second Rings can give everyone speed and power boosts by about 30%. Feeling like they have a chance now Mubai asks San what the plan is, and San takes out some stones and walks everyone through his strategy for the remainder of the time on the incense.
Mubai approaches Zhao and says they are ready and Zhao nods for them to get into formation, which they do with Rongrong in the back. Rongrong then summons her 7 Treasure Martial Soul, causing Zhao to be surprised that a member of that clan was there, and stating that "Flender" was going to be excited about that. He then lights the incense and San recalls Grandmaster telling him if he ever faces a 7 Treasure user to take them out first and fast. Zhao immediately launches an attack at Rongrong but San is able to use his vines to pull her out of the way in time. Wu, San, and Zhuqing then hit Zhao with multiple attacks, with San mainly playing support to help the girls try to deal more damage, but Zhao just seems to brush all their attacks off (even when they throw large structures at him). Rongrong then uses both her 1st and 2nd Rings to power the other 3 up, and using a combo of San's vines and the girls hits, they manage to actually land some decent attacks and slam Zhao to the ground Wu asks San if they over did it and San says no and that Zhao hasn't even summoned his Martial Soul yet. Zhao then gets up and says he will take them seriously, which prompts San and the girls to go in for attacks again. San manages to entrap Zhao in his vines, but Zhao then summons his Bear Martial Soul, destroying San's vines and sending Wu and Zhuqing flying. San catches Wu while Mubai jumps in and catches Zhuqing, but while San and Wu are getting their footing Zhao attacks them. Wu sees him and knocks San out of the way, then attempts to use a confuse ability on Zhao, which backfires on her since their levels are too far apart, knocking her unconscious as San moves her out of the way of Zhao's follow up attack. Zhao says she is fine and will wake by tomorrow, before stating to Rongrong that she's out because he could easily knock her out from where he is standing before she could react. San then walks over to Rongrong and asks if she will take care of Wu, which she agrees taking Wu from him. Zhao then asks if San wants to continue, stating that he wouldn't be able to withstand his attacks, but San says he wants to start a new exam, with a new stick of incense, fighting Zhao one on one, saying that if he wins they all pass. Zhao says then if he loses they all fail, and when San looks at Rongrong and Zhuqing they agree to that saying they are now comrades in arms and will stay or leave together. San then activates both the Purple Demon Eyes and Xuan Yu Hands, lamenting the fact that he couldn't protect Wu. Zhao then thinks that San is now making him feel uneasy, before San uses the 24 Moonlit Bridges to bring out Knife Hidden Weapons en mass, hitting Zhao with a barrage of them, with Zhao using his Martial Soul to shield himself. San moves around quickly using Ghostly Trace and his Mysterious Heaven arts, hitting Zhao from multiple angles until one got through, causing Zhao to go on the offensive. San manages to keep him moving to drag out the fight, but Zhou catches on to that and uses one of his Rings, which has the ability to increase gravity in a set diameter. San manages to dodge his attacks in it and get out, which causes Zhao to get more serious since he thinks the other teachers will give him hell from being shown up by a 12 year old. He then launches himself at San stating he will use his 4th Ring... |

2018 |
015 | Zhao uses his 4th Ring to lock onto San and catch him with his Martial Soul, but before he can land a blow on San, San activates his 2nd Ring; Parasite, which causes Grass vines to sprout from Zhao's body, locking him in place and letting San get away. He breaks out, but San is able to hit him with some needles, and while he expels those San uses the opening to hit him with multiple Golden Hair Needles. Zhao feels them hit and gets mad, using his 5th Ring, which creates a kind of black hole, pulling much toward it and breaking quite a few windows. San gets pulled toward it as well, but shoots at Zhao uses a metal arrow deployed from the Hidden Weapon on his back. Zhao catches the arrow with his teeth, but it does disrupt his ability which allows San to attempt to strike at him using blades from his shoes (it also shows that both the shoe blades and arrow have poison, which leaked into Zhao's mouth before he spits the arrow out). Zhao knocks San back again and San charges Zhao while bringing out is Hammer Martial Soul, hitting Zhao dead on while Zhao lands a strike on him at the same time, causing them both to be thrown back. San is thrown back towards a sharp blade sticking up from the ground though, which Mubai notices and manages to catch San before he fell on it.
Everyone comes to a standstill, with both San and Zhao pretty bad off, and Mubai calls for Oscar saying he has business. Oscar comes running and asks what's up and Mubai points out everyone is injured. Oscar looks around and sees Rongrong for the first time, instantly falling for her. Mubai clears his throat and Oscar snaps out of it, creating a sausage and offering it to San, who can't seem to let himself get over the words and insists that he's just fatigued and needs a moment to recover, before he then starts meditating. Zhao demands a sausage from each of Oscar's 2 Rings though, and while Oscar is helping Zhao Mubai walks over to where Zhuqing is resting on the ground and tells her not to worry, he wouldn't make her eat one of those sausages because he couldn't bear it. Zhao notices that there is swollen parts of his body (Via the Golden Hairs). Rongrong then asks if they passed the round and Zhao looks down to see the incense burned down. Zhao says they have passed and goes to leave, but San tells him to wait, getting up and walking over to him. San apologizes and says he was rash because Zhao's strength was too strong, which caused him to go all out and that now he must remove the Weapons from Zhao's body. San then does just that, taking all the Golden Hairs back and putting them in his inventory, before promptly passing out (Oscar caught him before he hit the ground). Zhao then tells Mubai that the new students are now his responsibility, and to not touch any of San's Weapons that have littered the courtyard because they have poison on them, saying San can pick them up when he wakes up, before leaving. Oscar asks Mubai what Zhao's problem with the new kids is, and Mubai says he's probably pissed off right now and to leave it be. Mubai then picks up Zhuqing while Oscar carries San and they head to get the newbies settled in. It's then night and Zhao is in his office mad at himself for loosing the way he did, before deciding that he'll have fun 'polishing the uncut Jades', when a voice coming from outside calls his name and calls him out. Zhao goes out into the forest, telling the person to come out, and a hooded man appears, commenting that he has long exercised his body and would like to exchange a couple pointers with Zhao. As the man walks toward Zhao Rings start appearing around him; 2 yellow, 2 purple, 4 black, and one red, causing Zhao to freak out because he is facing a Titled Douluo (level 90-99). The man summons a giant Hammer and Zhao, sweating bullets, asks why the man has honored him with his presence. The man's states that Zhao did a pretty good job bullying the kids that afternoon, and that since it looked 'fun' he was going to try it out. The man then notices something and asks someone to come out, to which the man from the antique store lands next to Zhao, who Zhao calls Boss. The man then summons his Martial Soul, Cats Owl, and says 'One greets His Eminence Hao Tian', to which Hao states there's no point with being formal since he's here for trouble. Hao then identifies the man's Martial Soul at level 78 and says that he is worthy to be called Flender of the Flying Corner of the Golden Iron Triangle, and that Shrek academy must be his. Flender confirms that, but says he confused on what Zhao had done to offend Hao. Hao tells Flender to stop his nonsense and step aside or he would be beaten too, to which Flender unsurely deactivates his Martial Soul at Zhao's resigned look. Hao then tells Zhao he'll give him a chance and will not use his Martial Soul, and that if Zhao can endure for a single incense Hao won't say a single word and leave, but if he can't he'll have to do a favor for him. Zhao asks again how he offended Hao, and Hao states he's avenging someone, before promptly and mercilessly kicking Zhao's ass while Flender watches cringing. |

016 | After beating Zhao bloody Hao then leaves saying he’s entrusting the future to them. Zhao laments to Flender that someone really shouldn’t be that strong before the two head back to the school. The next day San wakes up and finds that’s he’s sharing a room with Oscar, who congratulates him on passing. San asks about Wu and Oscar says she is fine and that she is sharing a room with Rongrong, who Oscar has fallen for. Oscar then teases San about his relationship with Wu when San says they are just friends. After more fusing over Rongrong on Oscar’s part San decides to take a nap. Later that day San returns to the test site and retrieves his weapons, acknowledging that he needs to make stronger ones to go against stronger opponents, but that the ones he needs are very hard to make. He then decides to focus on poison.
The next morning San tries to get Oscar out of bed, and when failing to do so with Oscar stating he didn’t have to because he’s an Auxiliary type (and therefore doesn’t need that much cultivation), asks where Wu is and Oscar tells him before going back to sleep. San goes over to the girls dorms and meets up with Wu, apologizing for not being able to protect her, which Wu brushes off saying it couldn’t be helped. The two then decide to go look for the cafeteria, but on the way encounter two individuals that appear to be having a break-up in the middle of the road, with the fat red haired guy being persistent about the girl staying with him. Wu and San intervene, which leads up to a fight, with the guy (then identified as Ma Hongjun) keeping up with Sans blows and then showing his Soul Beast; Evil Fire Phoenix. He then causes an explosion which San uses the Blue Grass to shield him and Wu from, then Wu decides to take him on directly. Hongjun uses a breathing fire attack on her, which she dodges, but he decides to go easy on her because she’s pretty and he doesn’t want to burn her; a choice which cost him when it let Wu get close to him, allowing her to administer the same stomach kick move she had beaten San with years ago, but stronger. Hongjun is knocked back, and the girl yells at Wu and San to stop before running over to help Hongjun up. Hongjun brushes her off and asks Wu if she wants to go again… |

017 | Before Hongjun and Wu can continue they are interrupted by Mubai, who asks what is going on. When nobody answers Mubai then asks the girl, who then runs off crying, which Mubai and Hongjin look resigned about. San then asks them what’s going on and Mubai asks Hongjun if he wants to explain or if he wants him to do it, which Hongjun says Mubai should do it. Mubai then leads them to the watermill and explains how Hongjun, who he calls Fatty (which is what everyone calls him apparently) is a student of Shrek as well and how his Spirit is a Variant type and that he sometimes looses control of it, and since his fire is very hot and strong, that is bad. Wu asks what that had to do with the girl, and Mubai just says that Fatty has been through a lot of breakups due to certain ‘attributes’, which leads to a brief argument between Mubai and Fatty. Wu then interrupts saying she is hungry and Mubai says to follow him. He leads them to the town square (Shrek Academy takes up 1/3 of a small town) where they meet up with Rongrong and Zhuqing who are already waiting there. They are joined a couple minutes later by a clean-shaven Oscar, who Mubai teases about oversleeping. They are then joined by Flender, who Wu and San recognize as the man who sold them the Golden Hair crystal, and who the others call the Dean. Wu asks if there are any Title Douluo (level 90-up) at the Academy and is told no, which she appears completely relieved about (making San curious). Wu asks San if Flender will remember them and San says obviously since its only been two days, but that as the Dean Flender shouldn’t hold a grudge, to which Oscar corrects him saying the Dean is notorious for holding grudges. They all then line up as Flender steps on the platform in front of them and announces that for Auxiliary Types (Oscar and Rongrong) running is the best practice for them since there won’t always be someone to protect them, telling them to run 20 laps or no lunch. Flender then tells Mubai to show the others the ropes before telling San to follow him and the two leave.
Flender takes San up on the balcony of his office and asks how the Grandmaster is, and by San’s response of calling Grandmaster ‘Master’ Flender is bemused to discover San is his student. San then gives him a letter from Grandmaster, which Flender reads while chuckling, before telling San that since he is the Grandmaster’s ‘proof’ he better not disappoint him. Scene then switches to the Ning Sect with a messenger telling a man that the ‘little Miss’ has been accepted into Shrek, continuing to say that Shrek has a few Spirit Emperors (61-70) and at least one Spirit Saint (71-80), and that some papers have been given to the Dean. The two are then interrupted by a man flying in on a sword asking the man (Ning Fengzhi) if he is really okay with letting Rongrong go. Fengzhi then calls the man Uncle Sword (but whose name is Chen Xin), and asks him to sit down, with Xin asking him if he thinks Shrek can train Rongrong better then them. (quick excerpt with Oscar and Rongrong running laps, with Oscar offering her a sausage and Rongrong denying him hard, knocking him down, and taking off without him). Fengzhi reassures Xin that Rongrong will be fine, especially with the Dean being the head of the ‘Golden Triangle’, and Xin laments that he is uncomfortable with Rongrong out in the outside world. Fengzhi argues the Rongrong has become too spoiled by everyone and that she should experience the outside world and perhaps might change for the better, with Xin sulkily saying they didn’t spoil her. Fengzhi then says that his decision is final, which Xin begrudgingly agrees to then leaves announcing that if anything happens to Rongrong it will be Fengzhi’s fault. |

018 | Starts with everyone back at the town square with Oscar and Rongrong joining them, Oscar out of breath. Flender asks Oscar if he completed 20 laps and he says yes, Flender corrects him and asks if they both ran the 20 laps and Oscar hesitates then says yes once more. Flender laughs, then promptly tells Oscar for his show of friendship he can go run another 20 laps with his ability sealed. Oscar, resigned, goes to do so, with Flender saying that is the price for lying, then calling out Rongrong on it, to which she admits it was too long and she instead went to town to eat before meeting back up with Oscar. Flender points out that if they had been on a battlefield that sort of insubordination would be punished by death and Rongrong argues that this isn’t a battlefield, to which Flender states it doesn’t matter he is still in charge. He then gives her two options; to pack up and leave, or prove her resolve by not ignoring instructions again. Rongrong gets offended and points out he is just a Spirit Saint (71-80) to which he agrees, then tells Mubai to help her pack her things. Rongrong gets upset and states that he is the first person to treat her this way, and Flender laughs and says even if she is the daughter of the head of the Ning Clan, to him she is merely a Spirit Grandmaster (21-30) and that everyone there is stronger then her. When she states that is nonsense because she’s considered a genius in her clan for already breaking past level 25 at her age, Flender points out how above her the others are already and that they are all geniuses as well. She states as an Auxiliary type comparing them doesn’t make sense and that she would be more useful. Flender points out that with a weak will and strength how would she be useful, and that with her selfish attitude who would fully trust her to have their backs. She then argues that she is more powerful then Oscar, to which Flender asks her if she has ever seen a Food Auxiliary type with Fully Awakened Soul Power, which is what Oscar is, and that someday his usefulness might surpass her clans 7 Treasure soul. Flender then states that out of everyone there she is the most lacking, to which she runs away crying. Mubai asks if he still needs to help her pack her stuff, to which Flender states no and says to tell Oscar to stop running. Flender then turns to everyone else and states that what he says goes, period.
Later that evening the group (minus Rongrong and Oscar) meet in Suotuo City, and Flender states they are going to the Great Spirit Arena, much to Mubai’s surprise since it is their first day, with Flender stating since they are monsters they need a monster’s training. San asks what the arena is and Flender response it is where Spirit Masters fight in battles that can even be bet on, and that for them it is the best platform they could train on. Wu asks if it just putting on a show and Flender says no, that it is where Spirit Masters are appraised and that the matches are fair, where everyone (even clans) can compete with no bias and that only your own skill can back you. They then approach a giant and extravagant stone building, where Flender pauses at the entrance and tells them when they register, they are given Spirit Fighter Badges, starting with a iron spirit badge, that every win will earn them a point and every loss will lose them a point, and that 100 points advances them to the next color. He then states that for them to graduate they need to have a silver spirit badge, and tells Mubai to show them in. Mubai explains that there are 8 badge ranks; iron, bonze, silver, gold, purple-gold, blue treasure stone, red treasure stone, and diamond. Wu says that they’ll only need 2 ranks then and Mubai says it’s not that easy; he started when he was level 29 but has 29 wins and 27 loses, meaning he only has 2 points so far, to the surprise of everyone. Mubai then points out that Fatty has more wins than him, surprising the others further, then explains that the matches are actually based on your rank (so as soon as he became rank 30 he went into the 30-39 bracket, meaning all his opponents were stronger then him). He then explains there are 3 types of contests; Normal, death, and gambling, but that they are doing normal, and that they can sign up for 1V1, 2V2, etc., and that while they can only 1V1 once a day they can also do a 2V2 once a day as well. San and Wu decide to sign up for 2V2 matches as well, but due to a spelling error on the desk ladies part ended up with the name Three Five Combination as their team name, much to Wu’s disappointment. Wu is then called for her first match. They enter a large colosseum like arena (if you’ve seen the Heaven’s Arena arc in Hunter x Hunter it’s kind of like that), which is run by a very ostentatious and extravagantly dressed blonde announcer on a levitating moveable platform. Wu heads down to the battle stage and faces her opponent, a very large well-built man… |

019 | Wu starts her match, ignoring all the negative comments from the crowd (and her opponent) and after exchanging a couple of blows uses an upper kick to get her opponent air born, where she promptly uses multiple combo attacks on him while he’s up there (seriously reminded me of Cloud’s Omnislash in FFVII, lol), even using the announcer’s platform as a foothold a couple of times. She then delivers her now infamous 1st Ring Waist Bow to KO her opponent, to the astonishment of the crowd. Her opponent admits defeat and she goes to register her win. Then San is called for his match which happens to be against Zhuqing, and Mubai asks if he can be gentle, which San agrees.
They start the match with Zhuqing dodging all of San’s vine attacks and getting in close to attack him directly, which he avoids by reading her moves with Purple Demon Eyes and dodging with Ghostly Trace. He then uses his vines to create a cage around them, limiting her speed, and attacking her with vines while avoiding her attacks. Mubai then realizes that San made to cage not to just limit her movement, but to attack her from the air, which he does, binding her with vines so she can’t move, the weakness of an Agility Attack System user. She admits defeat and Mubai is relieved San went easy on her and didn’t poison her, just restricted her. Mubai then goes to cheer Zhuqing up, saying that Agility type are more effective from the shadows and in more varied terrains, saying that even San would have trouble with her in such a situation. She seems to consider his words but remains silent. The next match, 2V2 starts soon after San registers his win and he and Wu head to the arena. Wu complains they are up against Attack System types again when they see their opponents, two large men with giant Hammers. They start off with the hammer brothers seeming to have to advantage, but San and Wu manage to trick they an entrap them is a vine cage, where San uses his second Ring Ghost Vine Parasite on them, restricting their movements and numbing them. The two then decide to throw their hammers at them, which San and Wu dodge, up the hammers act like a boomerang and circle back. San notices, dodges his, and jumps in front of Wu’s to block hers with the Xuan Yu Hand, but it still knocks him back. Wu get’s mad at seeing San injured and attacks the brothers with her Hidden Weapon darts, which San quickly intercepts with his own, knocking them off course and only causing one to scratch one of the brother’s necks. San then points out that the poison in his vine attack would have taken effect by now and that they would be dead with their depleted Soul Power, so to admit their defeat. The brothers do and thank San for saving their lives, knowing that Wu’s attack might have killed them. San and Wu then meet Mubai, Zhuqing, and Hongjun outside, and Fatty asks Mubai if he wanted to go pick up girls with him, which Mubai panickily turns down while glancing at an unamused Zhuqing, and becomes increasing frustrated as Fatty continues to insist, before Hongjun scoffs and walks away. Zhuqing then also walks away calling Mubai dirty, much to his frustration, and he stomps away in the other direction from her. Bemused Wu and San start to head back too, with Wu also a little upset that San was injured protecting her. |

020 | Starts out with San and Wu walking up to the Shrek entrance gate where Mubai is yelling at Rongrong with Oscar awkwardly standing close by. Mubai states that Shrek is not her house and to stop treating it as such, telling her to knock it off or he’ll kill her. She mocks him saying she’s so scared and Mubai knocks her back several feet with his Soul Power where Oscar catches her causing them to both hit the ground. Mubai approaches them but San intercepts him, grabbing his arm and asking him to calm down and saying that they are all students. Mubai looks like he wants to continue, but says that his will back down out of respect for San, before telling Rongrong to stop provoking him and prowling through the gate entrance. Rongrong then stomps up to San and demands that he help her kill Mubai, even offering him compensation and support from her clan. San then tells her that not everything can be bought with money or power and that he doesn’t know what happened with Mubai but that she needs to knock it off with her lofty behavior or leave. She then threatens him with her clan, but he just shrugs her off and leaves through the gate with Wu. Rongrong then turns to Oscar asking if he will help her, but he shakes his head, to which she asks why since he seemed to like her. He then responds “I like the person you were when we first met” (shocking her) continuing with how he is a mismatch with the ‘princess’ of the 7 treasure clan, and that he would rather stay as himself then become a servant. He then continues by saying that maybe San was right about her leaving because as things stood, she was not making any friends with her actions. He then walks away leaving Rongrong alone outside the gate, forcing her to realize that she hasn’t actually had a friend before, which causes her to collapse crying that she is not a ‘she-devil’ (her unofficial nickname in her clan).
The next morning San wakes up and notices Rongrong standing alone at attention in the town square facing the stage. He and the others join her (Rongrong looking completely subdued) forming a line with Flender joining them a couple seconds later. Flender then asks San where Oscar is (he’s missing again) and San says he was meditating. Oscar then appears a minute later practically glowing, to which Flender asks him if her wants to run more laps. Oscar then explains that he just broke into level 30, surprising everyone. Flender congratulates him then announces that in that case tomorrow morning they will be going with Zhao to the Star Dou forest to get Oscar’s third Ring. Flender then announces that for their lesson that day everyone had to eat at least one of Oscar’s Sausages, causing Wu, Zhuqing, Rongrong, and San to look horrified and Mubai and Fatty to look amused (probably because they have had to eat one before). Wu asks what’s the point of that lesson and Flender says adaptability and that they are wasting a valuable resource, in which case they can just eat bugs and roaches instead if they want, causing the girls to be nauseous. Oscar then creates the sausages and asks who’s first, to which Rongrong responds that she is, surprising everyone. She walks up to Oscar and takes both the sausages he’s created, promptly eating both right there. She then turns to Flender and states seriously that she wants to stay, causing Flender to smile, then call out next. The next morning the group is outside the gate where they meet up with Zhao, who still looks beat up, causing everyone to wonder where he got his injuries. Zhao then instructs Mubai to give the instructions. Mubai instructs San to be the vanguard in front with Rongrong and Oscar behind him (Oscar periodically providing sausages for everyone to keep their stamina up), Wu and Fatty as the flanks, and he and Zhuqing at the rear. Zhao is only to help them if they encounter a Beast out of their league. After spending the day running around the forest they stop for the night at the town, first to eat dinner at the tavern, where everyone is exhausted. As they enjoy their meal (Zhao is having his meal elsewhere) a group of students with a snobby looking teacher march inside, shoving people out of their way, to the disgruntlement of everyone there. Fatty and Mubai identify them as the Blue Sunshine Academy and Mubai says they are flamboyant, like shit. The group hears them and gets mad, and Oscar whispers to the others that it’s the Deans policy to stir things up. San asks if the academy is decent and Mubai nods. One of the Blue Sunshine Academy students then struts towards them and ‘accidentally’ bumps into a waiter carrying food, causing the food to fall toward Mubai. San catches both the waiter and the food, telling the waiter to not waste food, and puts the plate down on their table. The student then tries to kick Mubai’s chair out from under him, but Mubai blocks him then sends him flying right into his teacher’s food, saying his hand slipped. The room clears quickly with just Shrek, the staff, and Blue Sunshine Academy left, the teacher demanding which academy they are from. They ignore him and he gets mad, telling his students to attack. Wu pops up happy for a fight and Hongjun asks San if Wu will be okay, to which San states (after scanning them with Purple Demon Eyes) that ‘the unfortunate ones are them’ as Wu beats them up. San then calls Wu back and he, Mubai, and Fatty step up, calling out their Souls to take on the now pissed off teacher… |

2018 |
021 | The Cang Hui teacher introduces himself as the academies head of foreign affairs, Ye Zhi-Qiu, and demands to know their academy, which Hongjun announces is Shrek, to which Zhiqiu says he has never heard of it. Mubai says then he is ill informed. Zhiqiu then summons his Spirit Beast, Black Tortoise, and shows his level to be somewhere over 50. He then demands to know where their teacher is, they say they’re more then enough to take him on, and he says he’ll punish them in their teachers place. They are then interrupted by one of the staff who begs them to take it outside. The Blue Sunshine Academy heads out first and San lays out his plan to the others based on Zhiqiu’s water based defense type Soul. When he gives everyone a role besides Rongrong, she asks him what she should do, and he hesitates before stating since her soul is special she should act based on the circumstances, which causes her to look a little depressed. As the others leave Oscar pauses and tells her “If you want everybody’s acknowledgement, then prove through your actions that you are a part of Shrek”. Rongrong tears up but follows them outside.
Outside Zhiqiu gives them another chance to back down but they shoot that down, summoning their Souls. San, Mubai, and Hongjun unleash multiple combo attacks on him but he manages to defend against them using his Black Tortoise Soul. Zhuqing jumps in to help attack but he blocks her to, but before he can attack her Mubai knocks him away. He then starts using ice attacks on them, managing to freeze Mubai and San’s vines, but Mubai breaks free and Hongjun helps him defend. They end up jumping away from Zhiqiu’s attack, infuriating him. Before they can continue though Zhao comes outside asking the Shrek team why they are outside and not resting, then tells them to go to bed. The seven of them deactivate their Souls and back off, and Zhiqiu yells that if Zhao is their teacher then he is accountable for them and that they insulted Blue Sunshine Academy. Zhao is dismissive of Zhiqiu, saying that Blue Sunshine Academy always bullies the weak and fears the strong, always causes trouble, and is a rubbish academy. He then tells his students that they are weak since they can’t even handle a turtle and ushers them into the building. He then tells Zhiqiu if he has a problem they can settle it with their fists. Zhiqiu takes him up on that and summons his Soul again, but Zhao doesn’t bother summoning his. Zhao then rushes Zhiqiu before promptly bitch slapping him multiple times, punching him upwards, using him as a horizonal punching bag, then kicking him on top of a well, before walking away saying it was a nice workout. As Zhao re-enters the building San throws an apple at him which he catches, then states that they are getting extra training when they get back. He then asks Rongrong why she didn’t support them and she awkwardly says she was waiting for the right time, before San jumps in and says she was waiting for Mubai to use his Vajra transformation, which Zhao agrees that would have caught Zhiqiu off guard. Zhao then tells them that since they entered Shrek they are a team now and have to think like one body, then sends them to bed while tossing up the apple and smiling. The next day they are back in the forest, and Zhao tells them that Star Dou forest is different from other forests cultivated in other countries because you can meet any level Spirit Beast anywhere in the forest, instead of only certain areas, and that they all need to remain near him. Scene jump a waterfall deeper into the forest where a giant stone looking gorilla is waking up sniffing the air, then gets up out of the water and starts walking into the forest. Back to the group Mubai is clawing a path through the undergrowth using his Soul’s claws, when San calls out for him to stop, causing him to freeze. Mubai asks what is wrong and San points out the small squirrel like Spirit Beast Mubai almost hit, saying that there are quite a few smaller ones in the area and that they should go around. San then explains Spirit Beasts are slow to grow and to avoid injuring them, and that if they are killed indiscriminately there won’t be any Spirit Beasts left. Mubai says that makes sense and they start to make their way around. San continues saying the second reason is that the battle and blood would attract stronger Spirit Beasts. Mubai says San is quite knowledgeable and San says he learned it from his teacher. Zhao then calls for them to be careful, and they all sense something approaching. San indicates for them to get down and Zhuqing jumps into the tree for a better view, describing the incoming Beast, which Zhao identifies as a Phoenix Tail Crest Serpent ands tells Oscar he got lucky… |

022 | Due to Zhuqing’s descriptions San is able to identify the serpent at being around 1500 to 1800 years, which is what they are looking for, but he describes how they are fast and hard to catch. Mubai asks how they can catch it then, and San points out they are afraid of birds so Fatty’s Phoenix should oppress it, and since offense is its weakness they just have to worry about it escaping. Working together they manage to fight it, weaken it, and contain it, before Zhao stepped it and knocked it out in a couple of moves. He then called Oscar over. Wu gets depressed and asks if it is really necessary for them to kill Spirit Beasts and San replies regretfully that the strong eat the weak and that just the way that it is, and that if the snake had been stronger then them would it have really let them go? Zhao urges Oscar to hurry up and stab it to get the Ring, but before Oscar can a voice calls for him to stop. An old lady and girl around their age approach, with the old lady identifying herself as Chao Tianxiang, a name which Zhao vaguely recognizes. Tianxiang reveals herself to have 6 Rings and Zhao calls out his 7 Rings, making Tianxiang hesitate. She then acknowledges Zhao but says that he cannot give the serpent to Oscar. They ask why and the girl with her states that is because she and Tianxiang fought it first, and as proof to look for three cuts on it’s belly made by them. San looks and finds them, and Tianxiang says her granddaughter has just reached rank 30 and needs that Ring. Zhao finally places her name and identifies her as the Elder Serpent Grandmother of the Unrivaled Dragon Serpent. Fatty asks Mubai who she is and Mubai explains that she is half of a legendary duo known for their powerful Spirit Harmonization that has the power to rival a titled Douluo. Fatty asks if the Ring is a lost cause, but Mubai states that it might not be because the Grandfather isn’t there and Tianxiang can’t take on Zhao by herself. Zhao worries that the Grandfather maybe near by and would endanger the kids, so decides to rush things. He introduces himself, Tianxiang recognizes his name and title, and Zhao states that they will not be moving to the side. Tianxiang’s granddaughter demands they give them the snake because it is rightfully theirs and Zhao states that the Spirit Beasts of the forest belong to nobody, and that while they may have discovered it first it was Zhao’s group that brought it down. Tianxiang then points out that her granddaughter needs it because she’s rank 30, but Zhao points out that Oscar is also rank 30, surprising Tianxiang because Oscar is about 2 to 3 years younger than her granddaughter. Tianxiang then demands that since it is like that, that they settle it by the rules of the Spirit Master Realm. Zhao asks for an explanation, and Tianxiang says to let Oscar fight it out with her granddaughter, the loser having to give up the Ring. Zhao cuts in and says that Oscar is an Auxiliary Food Type so that wouldn’t work, surprising Tianxiang more and causing her to demand what Clan Oscar is from, to which he responds he isn’t from a Clan. Tianxiang internally debates trying to get Oscar to join her Clan so that he can support Meng Yiran (her granddaughter), but before she can make any propositions San cuts in and says he can stand in for Oscar. Tianxiang and Yiran agree and Yiran introduces herself as Meng Yiran with Serpent Cain Soul and San introduces himself and his Blue Grass, which she promptly calls a trash Soul and attacks him. He dodges using Ghostly Trace and traps her with his vines, but she activates her Rings and slips through like a snake (partially shredding her clothes in the process). San deduces that his poison isn’t working because she uses poison too, and goes to attack her, but then has to dodge the many spears created by her 2nd Ring… | Jun 09

023 | San dodges all the spears using Ghostly Trace and Purple Demon Eyes, before targeting Yiran and grabbing the end of her staff. She calls him foolish because the staff is poisoned but he has nullified the poison with Xuan Yu Hand. Yiran then initiates a battle of Spirit Power using the staff as a medium and San accepts, meeting her Power head on, even though he’s at a disadvantage with him being at 29 and her being at 30. However he is using the Mysterious Heaven Skill, which is a first class internal qi type skill the helps with Power regeneration, so in test of perseverance he would outlast Yiran, which is what it ends up being. After a time and seeing her granddaughter struggling Tianxiang calls that it is their loss and San and Yiran break off, with Yiran being knocked unconscious and San just out of breath. San immediately starts meditating to regenerate his Power while Oscar kills the serpent and meditates to absorb the Ring. Tianxiang and Yiran leave, with Tianxiang saying she will remember this, and the others take up a defensive formation around Oscar and San. Oscar comes to first and the others pester him to show his new Ring, which he eventually does, it is the Mushroom sausage and allows the consumer to fly at the speed of the serpent for 1 minute. The others are impressed and Zhao says after San comes to they’ll be able to leave, but San (who has awakened) interrupts and says they shouldn’t leave the forest yet because he just broke through the 30th rank and now needs a Ring too. The others enthusiastically congratulate him for being the youngest in Shrek to hit 30 and agree to stay to hunt for his Ring.
Scene break to the Gorilla pacing through the forest, catching a scent, then bolting forward. The team decides to take a break for the night and San is on edge, sensing something is wrong. Zhao strikes up a conversation with him, mentioning how the outer forest used to be full of Spirit Beasts, but now how there’s not that many, and wonders if they had gone to the inner forest. San says it’s probably mostly the fault of people, since people constantly kill the Beasts for their Rings or indiscriminately, but only live for decades themselves while Spirit Beasts live for millennium, and that it was only a matter of time before all the older Spirit Beasts are extinct since their numbers are not so easy to replenish while humans are numerous. San states that with time there will be no more Spirit Masters. Zhao agrees but says it is out of their hands, and all they can do is only Hunt Rings when necessary and avoid meaningless slaughter. Before San can respond a roar fills the air and they take battle formation, before being confronted with the giant gorilla. |

024 | San identifies the gorilla as the king of the forest, the Titan Giant Ape, and states that it is as smart as a human, very old, and can use abilities similar to Rings. Zhao wonders why if is there when it resides at the center of the forest. Zhao tries talking to it and though it understands him it reacts negatively, making Mubai wonder is San is right and all the Killing of Spirit Beats by humans has made the Beasts hold a grudge against them. They all attack the Ape at once but he repels their attacks and creates a gale force that makes everyone move for cover. In the confusion with Oscar protecting Rongrong, Mubai and Zhuqing watching each other, and San, Wu and Fatty dodging debris, San moves Fatty out of the way of a rock and gets separated from Wu, who is then caught by the Ape mid jump. Zhao and San attack the Ape to get Wu back, and Zhao tries using his Spirit’s Avatar (which will cause him to have to recover for 7 days) but the Ape manages to deflect him and bolts off with Wu. San attempts to chase on foot but is flung back by the Ape before he can reach Wu.
San returns to the others, who are all in bad shape. Zhao blames himself for not being able to stop the Ape. San disagrees saying it’s his fault for not being able to protect Wu, before quietly begging Oscar to give him a Mushroom Sausage, which Oscar does reluctantly since he felt he owed San for helping him get his Ring. San eats it and tells everyone he will find Wu even if she is dead. Rongrong enhances him with her first Ring; Speed before he shoots off. Oscar and Rongrong apologies to Zhao, who tells them not to apologies and tells Oscar to make more sausages because they are going after San and Wu together. Scene cut to the Ape climbing a mountain with Wu on his shoulder. When he gets to the top and continues running Wu tells him to stop, calling him Er Ming, and tells him she has to go back, and that he shouldn’t have came looking for her. Er Ming stops and Wu jumps down to a tree branch, stating that San is probably worried and that Er Ming shouldn’t have taken her, to which Er Ming looks unhappy and sad about. Wu states that next time he should observe first and that he should have not hurt her friends, to which he nods sadly and Wu pats his head. Wu then says she might as well complete her Third Ring and asks Er Ming to watch over her, before jumping down and meditating. San, who has covered quite a distance despite being pretty badly injured, lands and the wings fade away. He laments not being able to protect Wu, and continues on on foot before stopping to take a break, where is surrounded by pink mist then attacked by something stalking him… |

025 | The creature attacking San is a large blue and purple (and glowing) really vicious and freaky looking spider (seriously, it has what looks like a face with mouth with teeth on its abdomen), which San identifies as a Man Faced Demon Spider, something that “is a nightmare to small spirit beasts, an existence that sucks life, a wicked butcher, and an abomination to all Spirit Beasts”. Though injured and weakened San manages to avoid the Spider’s attacks, recalling that Grandmaster had once told him that the Man-faced Demon Spider was optimal for his third Ring (it’s poison and attributes), but that with how much of a pain they were to kill to avoid it. As San is dodging he recalls that the Spider can use a web attack 3 times a day and wonders if that one had already used them. San manages to bind the Spider with his vines, but the Spider uses its own venom to corrode them and breaks free, to which San has to go back to dodging its attacks before figuring out that the ‘eyes’ on the ‘face’ on its abdomen is its weakness. He uses his vines to get the Spider on its back, but before he can attack it he starts losing consciousness, then realizing that the Spider had managed to scratch his arm and poison him.
When San regains consciousness he’s seated in a meditative position near a building on a cliff in his old body in his previous world. He then hears “looks like there was nothing to worry about” and turns to see the Tang Sect Master walking to him. Looking around he realizes he’s in the Tang Clan Sect. Scene skip to the “Second Brother” yelling at San for disrespect when the Master cuts him off and reminds the Second Brother of what he said would happen if they found San alive. Master continues saying it wasn’t easy saving San, that Second Brother’s formalities were bothersome, and that San’s survival was a miracle. San then touches his head looking pained, saying that there was an important matter he had to do, but that he couldn’t remember it. Sect Master says not to worry about it and to focus on recuperating, then says he regrets not recognizing San’s talents before. San says he is okay, and that he lives and dies for the Tang Sect, to which the Sect Master tells him to remember that, then departs with the Second Brother. After they leave San gets flashes of his friends and Grandmaster’s faces, but can’t recognize them. San is then walking around when one of the Inner Disciples calls him Third Senior. San says that he shouldn’t be called that by an Inner Disciple since he’s not worthy (he was an Outer Disciple all his life), but the disciple continues saying that ever since San was rescued Sect Master had “purged the differences in denominations, and that priority of resources and command is given based on seniority”. San is surprised, but still insists that the disciple doesn’t have to be so polite, and to just call him 3rd brother. As some as he says that though he clutches his head, suddenly remembering Wu and Grandmaster, before bolting away saying he has to go back. He runs back to Devil May Cry and stands on the edge where he had fallen the first time, and the Sect Master calls out from behind him, asking him what he is doing, and saying that though the Sect has wronged San in the past he is trying to make it up to him, then asks if San is holding on to resentment. San pauses before saying yes, he cannot let it go, which his why he’s standing there again. He says that he has always held on tightly to the past, that he remembers every little thing about the Clan and land, and to forget about it is a hard task, but that he has to let it go now. That he doesn’t belong there anymore, but to another place where someone is waiting for him to save them. He them promptly dives off the cliff. San wakes up back on the Douluo Continent in the forest, but he’s bound up in a tree with webbing. He then Activates the Mysterious Heaven internal Skill to break the webbing and the Spider immediately goes back to attacking him. He then decides to use his Hammer even though it has no Rings, believing that the weight alone will do damage. He then knocks the Spider back a few times (the shock waves giving his position away to his friends and (accidentally) Yiran’s group) before getting a clear shot at the abdomen ‘eyes’ which he uses his Hidden Weapon Godly Zhuge Crossbow (the one that launchers multiple small arrows at once) to hit them, finally killing it. He then starts removing the poison from his arm and starts meditating to replenish Power since he’s out and needs some to help absorb the Ring. As he does though Yiran’s group, now including her Grandfather as well as Grandmother, approach and notice the dead Spider, to which Yiran runs up yelling about who killed ‘her’ spider. San stands and says it was him, and both Yiran and Tianxiang recognize him. The Grandfather then walks forward and asks if San knew the Spider was more precious then the Snake (Oscar’s Ring), and that they had been chasing it for a day, but got caught up in its webs. San says it was self defense and thanks them for wasting it’s 3 webs, which surprises them that he killed it by himself. The Grandfather (Meng Shu) hesitates but then Yiran starts fussing about him supporting her. He then steps forward and tells San while it is reasonable that he killed the Spider in self defense, San still had interrupted Yiran’s hunt twice. He then says San has two options. San summons the Crossbow behind his back, thinking that while he wouldn’t be able to hit the Grandparents, he would be able to take Yiran with him if they killed him. Scene break to Flender sending somebody a message. |

026 | Meng Shu states that the first option is San joins their Clan, something which Yiran and Tianxiang agree with. San knows that once someone joins a Clan the Clan gets their absolute loyalty for life, and turns Shu down saying he likes to be free. Shu and the others are disgruntled and Shu tells San he can’t absorb the Spider’s Ring without his permission, and San is confused saying that the Ring would then be wasted (only the person who killed the Beast can absorb the Ring). Shu states that’s fine so unless San joins their Clan he won’t get the Ring, San then asks what the second choice is and Shu states that San leaves an arm behind as compensation to Yiran and goes. San pauses then says he will join their Clan on one condition; they help him save Wu (or avenge her if she’s dead). They are at first agreeable and confidant, before San tells then the Beast is the Titan Ape, to which the couple state that ever a Titled Douluo wouldn’t easily take that one on (they know which one he’s talking about because there is only one known Ape in the Star Dou Forest), and that they can’t and win. Tianxiang states that if the Ape is in the outer forest they need to leave, Shu agrees then demands San’s answer to joining his Clan. San states since they wont help him he wont be joining and that if they want his arm they have to come get it. Shu knocks San back but before he does anything he is interrupted by the arrival of Zhao and the others.
Zhao politely greets Shu, who points out that since they took down both the Serpent and Spider Zhao has trained his students well. Zhao admits he is just a stand in for San and that San has a different Master, before asking Shu to the side to talk privately to him (San sits down to meditate at this point). Zhao then apparently tells Shu that Grandmaster is San’s Master (and might have told him about San’s father as well considering Shu willingly backs down so fast), with Shu coming back to the group and stating that out of respect of Grandmaster he’s willing to let it go, but to not let it happen a third time. They go to leave but Yiran stops them demanding restitution and Shu asks what she wants him to do, he’s old and doesn’t want to bully the weak. She then states she’ll take her own revenge, challenging San to another match, stating that if her wins he can absorb the Ring, but if he loses he can’t. Before San can respond past agreeing Oscar cuts in and says the stakes are one-sided and to add on if San wins Yiran has to kiss San, something that Shu immediately agrees to much to Yiran’s disgruntled surprise. San asks Yiran what the challenge is and she states that Shu will create a shockwave that will knock the leaves off of the nearby tree and that they are to use blades to pierce as many of the falling leaves as possible and pin them to the tree trunk, the one with the most at the end winning. Halfway through her explanation San’s friends start snickering and San agrees and states that they should get it over with. They line up and Shu sends out a shockwave. Yiran manages to pin a single leaf with every one of her knifes, but Shu states that she lost, Yiran denies that and runs forward to check the trunk. She then sees San was able to use 16 knives to pin exactly 10 leaves each, hitting the trunk at the same time. Shu states that San’s skill with blades surpasses his own, especially since San did that with his back to the tree. Yiran collapses in defeat but San tells her not to feel bad losing to him since he has practiced Hidden Weapons for 9 years. Yiran asks what Hidden Weapons are and he says they are weapons of stealth and precision. He then gives her some Bone Piercing Needles, saying they are more convenient for her then her large knives, and that he can teach her to use them if she wants. She is surprised and agrees and San tells her that he didn’t use sight to catch the leaves, but sound tracing, which can cover all blind spots and allows you to be completely aware of your surroundings. He is able to teach her the technique and she tells him not to expect a thanks, before kissing his cheek. She then gets embarrassed and says she was only fulfilling their bet and to not expect anything before darting off, much to her grandparent’s amusement, and they nod to Zhao before following after her. San then says he must hurry for Wu’s sake and starts to absorb the Ring, but the Spider was actually older then they thought it was and San starts having trouble. Scene change to Grandmaster reading Flender’s letter, before he hears an echoey female voice asking if he was going to return (calling him Gang). Scene switches to Hao approaching a Blue Silver Grass under a tree, caressing it with it responding to his touch, before walking away. He comes to cliffs edge sometime later and states “Martial Hall, I have returned”. |

Starts with the scene of an old battlefield (rusted armor, broken structures, etc.) where Tang Hao is reminiscing to “Ah Yin” (his wife, San’s mom) about how that was the place they said goodbye. Then a flashback starts with a younger Hao running through the broken structures with his Hammer out with a beautiful blue haired woman (Ah Yin) carry a baby (San). They are being stalked by shadow creatures which Hao has to constantly fend off, before they are confronted by the man controlling the shadows (Gui Mei (for the sake of simplicity I’m just going to refer to the unintroduced characters by their names even though we are not supposed to know them yet to avoid confusion)). Hao tries to attack Mei directly but is almost captured by the shadows, before using the lava terrain (the landscape appears to be an active lava bed at that point of time) around them to create lava geysers around Mei to handicap his shadows. Hao and Yin start running again but are immediately cut off by a man (Yue Guan) using blades that form a flower like structure (Chrysanthemum) but can be moved individually (Senbonzakura anyone). Hao manages to block all of the blade attacks, while Guan looks to be having fun attacking him (okay, this guy seriously reminded me of Hisoka from Hunter x Hunter throughout the entire show, just saying). Scene cuts off with Guan launching a massive attack at Hao.
Next scene is Hao and Yin running along the edge of a ravine (guess they got away from Guan?) when they see a yellow feather fall near them. Behind them a vortex of light forms and Hao turns to Yin before pushing her forward and destroying the path between them, then turning to watch as the vortex manifests as a massive female ‘Angel’ (Seraphim), who holds out her hands which have a gold armored man in them (Qian Xunji, the Supreme Pontiff (leader, High Priest?, the one mostly in charge) of Martial Hall at the time). Mei and Guan show back up and bow to Xunji, who asks Hao why he, as a member of the Sky Clan, is disobeying Martial Hall. Hao is affronted and Xunji states he doesn’t care if the Sky Clan becomes an enemy of Martial Hall, but that Hao has to hand Yin over or he’ll kill him. Hao says he can have her over his dead body and Xunji attacks Hao using the giant sword that has manifested in the ‘Angel’s’ hands, carving a line in the ravine side. Hao dodges the attack then jumps toward Xunji to attack him and the ‘Angel’ directly, managing to knock both off balance with the weight of the blow (the Hammer has grown over ten times it’s size). When he goes to attack Xunji’s opening though Guan and Mei use Spirit Harmonization to use a combo attack to freeze Hao midair, which allows Xunji to get some distance and shoot a gold light spear through Hao, knocking him back into a clearing. Xunji aims another spear at Hao, but before it hits it is stopped by Yin’s Blue Silver Grass Vines, and Hao is able to get out from under it. Yin walks up to stand beside Hao with baby San, but they are then surrounded by a large group of Spirit Masters from Martial Hall. Yin turns toward Hao and tells him she was glad she was able to love and be loved by him in her life and to always remember that San is their son, before handing San to Hao and walking away. Hao tries to reach out to her to stop her, but she restricts him with her vines. She then says she knows she will not survive in the hands of Martial Halls and says she will make a deal with them before using a ‘ritual’, to which both Hao and Xunji tell her not to do it. The members of Martial Hall try to stop her but a flash of light pushes them back and in Yin’s place only a Red Ring appears. Back at the present Hao remembers Yin giving San his name and telling him to look after himself and San. Scene jump to San who is still having trouble absorbing the Spider’s Ring and is having visions of his parents and Wu. Back with Hao he has returned to the hill next to the waterfall that possesses Yin’s Blue Silver Grass form. Hao starts telling Yin about how well San is doing, how she will like Wu when she meets her, how San has made some good friends and has an excellent teacher, and about how he won’t let the tragedy that happened to them happen to their son. He then says he has to go give what he owes to the Clan, as well as collect what Martial Hall owes him, before leaving. |

Starts with Yiran and her Grandparents discussing the Needles San gave her, how powerful San and his friends were, how they regret San wouldn’t join their family, how San is so strong even with a Blue Silver Grass Spirit, and about whether Yiran should try to marry him (much to her embarrassment). They then decide to look up Shrek Academy after they get Yiran’s Ring.
Scene break with Wu running through the forest looking for San. Back with San the others watch helplessly as he struggles with the Ring. Wu finally reaches them and after greeting them sees San struggling and quickly figures out why; the Spider who’s Ring he’s absorbing is over 2000 years while according to Grandmaster his Third Ring absorption limit was 1700 years. Zhao and the others are worried, but there is nothing they can do to help San now. Zhao then asks Wu how she escaped the Ape and she says that while the Ape was running there was a loud bull roar and the Ape got scared and tossed her to the side, knocking her unconscious, and when she had come to she had hit rank 30. She then goes on saying that there was a couple Spirit Beasts knocked out by the roar nearby and she found one severely injured and killed it to absorb its Ring, then went looking for them. They all then go back to worrying about San. Scene break to Flender who’s having tea on his balcony with Grandmaster (who he refers to by name, Yu Xiaogang), who he asks if he’s going back home, to which Xiaogang says only after he has proven himself. Flender mentions a ‘she’ but Xiaogang deflects, which Flender reluctantly allows. Flender then mentions that someone related to San beat up Zhao and Xiaogang says he knows who he is before tossing Flender the pass Hao had given him, then asking Flender if he really thought the Blue Silver Grass was San’s only Spirit, which causes Flender to swallow as he realizes exactly who Hao was. Back with San the others are still worrying but San manages to barely overpower the Ring (Zhao mentions how the Dragon Couple should be grateful because the Ring would have killed their granddaughter), and absorbs it, but he has a reaction and lurches forward. On his back something appears and 8 Spider legs grow out of it, before his Blue Grass Vines appear and wrap him in a sort of cocoon. The kids ask Zhao what they should do and Zhao says all they can do is wait. San meanwhile is trapped in his memories of his pass life about how he as an outsider was banned from learning any Sect techniques, how he would get in trouble for spying on lessons, building his own Hidden Weapons, and asking for access to the library of knowledge of the Clan’s Hidden Weapons. |

In San’s memories he sneaks into the Tang Sect Interior, where outsiders were forbidden from entering, to learn the Tang Sects Hidden Weapon knowledge by entering the Secret Room (library pretty much) to get to it on the third floor though he has to get past the guards on the first floor and the Clan’s 3 most powerful Elders on the second. San uses a rock to create a diversion to get past the guards and into the building on the first floor. Inside the way up to the third floor is open area covered in rotating lasers and guarded by the three Elders, leaving no blind spots. San then figures out how to launch a needle through the lasers through a crack in a window on the other side of the hall to knock down the top of the tree outside, which causes all three Elders to jump through and exit the window to check for an attack. One second after they leave San uses a grappling hook he made to propel himself right up into the third floor room, which is full of books and Clan items. San then sees the Tang Sect Secret Treasure Record (it contains knowledge of the Clans strongest Hidden Weapons), picks it up, and starts to read it, but a noise behind him causes him to turn to see an elderly man, who he identifies as Tang Lan. Lan states that outsiders only know the defenses of the first two floors, and that he has been guarding the third for decades. San states he will accept any punishment, but when Lan asks even exile, San states that the Sect took him in when he was helpless and that he is a part of it and would rather accept death. He then takes out a blade and goes to stab his own neck, but Lan deflects his blade out of his hand with another blade, then asks if San knows why he saved him. San doesn’t and Lan says he saved him for Tang Sect, stating that since the Sect became the best they have become lazy, and since they won’t let outsiders learn, many techniques have been lost. Lan says if it continues the Sect will perish, then asks San that for the future of the Sect if he was willing to help change it, while offering him the Treasure Record (which San had put down). Lan then says he’s leaving it to him before leaving. San then has flashes of his promises, parents, and Wu as he stabilizes and finishes absorbing the Ring.
Coming to he sees Wu first and is both disbelieving and relieved that she is there and safe. They have and moment before Mubai coughs and interrupts them to point out that San is shirtless (he had lost his shirt when the Spider legs appeared), to their embarrassment. San steps away from them and the Spider legs come out again, and San asks what they are. Nobody knows and Mubai asks if San can put them away, which he tries and does with some difficulty. Rongrong then notices the Needles sticking out of the dead Spider and asks about them, but before San can respond they are surrounded by a pink mist and lots of baby Man Faced Spiders, the offspring of the one San killed. The others are still weak from all the previous fights and start to worry, but San then brings out and gives everyone a Silent Sleeve Dart Hidden Weapon, telling them that these helped him kill the Spider. The group then proceed to kill several Spiders with the darts in various ways, before one Spider almost gets Wu, causing San to rush forward and intercept it, but his Spider legs manifest again, piercing the Spider and tearing it to pieces. The other Spiders see this and promptly run away. The others comment how useful the Hidden Weapons are, and Rongrong asks if she can buy some off him, stating that as a support type she has no protection ability. San says he will give her a set when they get back, and when she starts to object to the freebies, he says he will only charge her for the materials if she insists on paying. Oscar comments and San states he’ll give him a set too, much to his joy, then says he’ll give them all a set. Zhao states that they all have money and should pay him since they look complicated to make and everyone immediately agrees, much to San’s reluctance, before the group leaves the area. |

Using the Mushroom Sausage the group fly out of the forest and return to Shrek. Later that evening Flender and Zhao are talking about the events that happened and they are trying to figure out what the bull’s roar was. Xiaogang joins them saying it was probably the Green Ox Python of The Heavens and Flender introduces him to Zhao, who realizes that he is Grandmaster and San’s teacher.
San has a vision of the Cliff of Devil May Cry and his past self, telling him he has a long path in front of him, that he chose it (and cannot return to the other world), and that he has to walk it for them both and not forget their goals, before fading away. San then announces he will create a Tang Sect in this world. Back with the teachers Flender asks about the Ox Python and Xiaogang tells him it is the true ruler of the forest, above even the Ape, and that it lives in a lake at the center of the forest. A Spirit Master had discovered it when he had gone to the forest center to fight the Ape, and encountered the Ox Python as well when it rose out of the water upon sensing him, speaking to him and telling him to leave. Flender concludes the team got lucky. Xiaogang asks about what Rings everyone has gotten and Zhao tells him about Oscar’s, and he’s suitably impressed. Flender acts proud saying of course since everyone there is a monster, and that they will become more so with Xiaogang there. Xiaogang reminds him that he is mainly there for San, and Flender says he hasn’t forgotten, but that Xiaogang will have to wait till San is level 40 to go on a Ring hunt with him, surprising Xiaogang that San has reached 30 already, before he comments that San will surpass his father before long. The next day Xiaogang approaches the kids with Flender and Zhao and San runs up to greet him with Wu. The others ask San who that is and he says his Master. Flender gets the kids to line up and introduces Xiaogang as the Grandmaster, and Xiaogang states he will be taking over their training and that they will start tomorrow. Suddenly San tells everyone to move away and doubles over, the Spider legs sprouting on his back again, lashing out wildly. While the others dodge Hongjun doesn’t move in time and gets scratched, which causes him to pass out from the poison. Xiaogang gets Flender to take Hongjun inside and kneels in front of San, telling him to imagine the Soul Bone retracting into his back and walking him through it until he can retract them. Xiaogang then takes San where Hongjun is and tells him to remove the poison from Hongjun’s body. When San asks how Xiaogang says that the bone is a part of him and he can use it to guide its poison out, and that if he doesn’t hurry Hongjun will die. San calls out the Soul bone again and is able to shakily figure out how to get the poison out. They go outside and Xiaogang tells the others that Hongjun will be fine. After the teachers leave San admits to his friends that he is still having trouble adapting to the Ring, but that he is fine and they should go check on Hongjun. Mubai tells San to tell them when something is wrong next time because they are brothers, which San ruefully agrees to, and the kids besides Wu enter the building. San then asks Wu if she knows what an External Spirit Bones is. Wu is surprised and asks if that is what is on his back. |

Later San and Xiaogang are walking outside the academy, with Xiaogang complementing San for reaching level 30, before lecturing him about absorbing a Ring older than his tolerance level, telling him that he is not allowed to die. San ruefully admits he was wrong and Xiaogang states that San’s greatest weakness and strength is that he puts his feelings even before his own life. Xiaogang states that he mainly needs to teach San to remain calm in any situation, especially one with others in danger, so that he can stay alive to help them. He then asks San to show him the results of the Ring, which have made the Blue Silver Grass Vines thinner, more sturdy, and with corrosive poison. Xiaogang says that the risk paid out, but to never do that again because he doesn’t want San to die, and San agrees. Xiaogang than asks to see the Third Ring attack itself and San launchers a giant Spider web made of Blue silver Grass.
Scene cut to San walking through town looking for a smithy to help him create Hidden Weapons so he can focus on making other ones. He finds the biggest one in town and meets with the head of it, handing him the schematics for one of the Hidden Weapons. The Smith is surprised and grants San his time when San asks for a little of it. The Smith takes San to his office and San offers 100 gold pieces for 20 of the weapons. The Smith says that is fine but he wants one more guarantee and asks for San’s Spirit Master Badge (which is kind of like a Driver’s License really, has all your info) and San reluctantly hands it over. The Smith is surprised when San reveals that he has both a Blue Silver Grass Soul and 3 Rings, making him a Spirit Elder so young, but they are interrupted by the Smith’s sons barging in and asking if they do have a big job now. The sons are actually Tie Long and Tie Hu, the two Hammer brothers that San and Wu had faced in the Arena that San had saved from Wu’s attack. They all recognize each other, and the Smith (their father Tie Xin) apologizes for being suspicious and accepts the job. San is back on the cliff watching the sun set and Wu comes over and asks him what he is thinking. They get talking about San’s Soul Bone and San says Xiaogang said it’s a weird one, and that Soul Bones are rare; they sometimes appear from a Spirit Beast after it is killed under certain circumstances (which no one knows). San then says the one on his back is ‘an extremely perfect Spiritual Bone’ and Wu immediately says she’ll help protect it (they are highly coveted and can be stollen). San shakes his head and says he said he’d protect her so he’ll just have to protect himself too, before taking her hands and asking to be together forever, which Wu agrees to. The two then almost kiss, but are interrupted by their friends shouts further away calling for them. After a moment of embarrassment they go meet up with Oscar and Rongrong (with Oscar teasing them about what they were doing alone), who walk them back to Shrek saying that Flender was throwing a party for Fatty waking up and Oscar, San, and Wu hitting rank 30. At the school they are having a bonfire, with Flender saying to have a little fun before their lives become hell (then sharing a look with Xiaogang who looks amused). Everyone enjoys themselves. The next morning San gets Oscar up and they get to the dining hall to see Xiaogang cooking for them. The girls, Fatty, and Mubai join them a moment later. Afterward, Xiaogang takes them outside and lets them know that breakfast is important but takes time to digest, so from then on is would be at 5 AM and anyone who missed it wouldn’t get any. Xiaogang then calls Mubai up and says he has to fight and defeat all the others without harming them too badly, and that he is to start with San. He then tells San not to use his Third Ability or any Hidden Weapons, and when Mubai objects since he is 7 levels higher then San, Xiaogang then says San can use his Third Ability. The two then face each other and start. |
006
032 |
San starts off saying if Mubai can dodge his Third Ability, he’ll win, to which Mubai tells San to be careful. The fight starts and San manages to entangle Mubai in his Vines, which are thinner and more durable, and infect Mubai with Parasite, his Second Ring. Mubai breaks free and the Wu worries for San but Xiaogang comments that San is a Control Type and can control the flow of a fight. San then activates his Third Ring, trapping Mubai in a web like structure and pinning his hands. Xiaogang states that while the attacks of a Control Type are weak, the control of them is strong, and that for ones under 60 if they are good they can control the flow of battle with any opponent 10 levels of them. San releases the web and helps Mubai steady himself, before removing the poison in Mubai’s system. Xiaogang goes on saying that Mubai is a Power Type and that Control Types are the weakness of Power Types, and that in the future Mubai should distance himself from Control Types in a battle. He states that there are no perfect Types but there are perfect teams, and that they must learn to cover each other’s weaknesses and enhance each other’s strengths.
Mubai then has to fight Hongjun and Oscar, which surprisingly he has a hard time with, with Oscar constantly recharging Hongjun with his Sausages and the two of them remaining airborne, allowing Fatty to pepper Mubai with constant flame attacks from above. After a few minutes of Mubai dodging their attacks, Xiaogang sends San and Wu to spar as well, telling Wu he wants to see her Third Ability. Wu immediately starts off with her Second Ability, Charm, which catches San off guard since he hadn’t had the Purple Demon Eyes active. He manages to dispel it quick enough to activate his Third Ability, but Wu uses her Third Ability, Teleport, to get behind him and try to hit him with her First Ability, Waist Bow. San manages to manipulate their position and uses his Vines to tie them together back to back, ending that fight. Xiaogang calls for everyone to stop (immediately afterward Oscar’s Mushroom Sausage runs out and he hits the ground hard) and tell him what they thought. Mubai states that it wasn’t a fair fight because he was tired and his opponents had a constant supply of energy. Xiaogang responds that an enemy won’t always come at them when they are in perfect health, then asks why hadn’t Mubai took out Oscar first, knowing his abilities. He then rips into Hongjun and Oscar, stating that Hongjun should have caught Oscar before he fell to the ground and that Oscar should have took better care of himself, because if Mubai had wanted to kill them he could have as soon as Oscar’s Mushroom Sausage ran out and he fell. Xiaogang then turns to San, and San admits everything he did wrong and how not in control he was of the match. Xiaogang identifies Wu’s Third Ring as Teleportation that she got from a Lightning Rabbit, stating that it’s a rare ability, and that she should have used it before San trapped her. Xiaogang states that since everyone messed up, everyone gets punished, and tells them there are rocks at the entrance and that everyone is to take theirs and run to Soutou City and back 10 times without the use of Spirit Power (with San having to do 12 because he messed up the most). He then states to remember that they are a team, and that until everyone is done, nobody eats. San, Wu, Mubai, Hongjun, and Oscar head to the entrance while Zhuqing and Rongrong stay where they are, and Xiaogang asks why they are not going. Rongrong states that she and Zhuqing did not do anything wrong and Xiaogang asks what the others are to her. She states they are her friends and Xiaogang asks if she is really okay with watching her friends suffer while she rests. Rongrong and Zhuqing look at each other and nod, before running after the others. At the entrance are baskets with rocks in them and names on the baskets. San, Mubai, and Hongjun get the ones with the most rocks while Wu, Zhuqing, Rongrong, and Oscar get fewer rocks. Flender walks up to Xiaogang who is watching the kids from a distance and asks if making the kids walk hundreds of km with no Spirit Power is harsh, to which Xiaogang responds that ‘if you do not share pains together, how can you call yourself friends?’. Flender sighs and says he will listen to Xiaogang, but then starts worrying about the expenses of everything to come, to which Xiaogang comments that he is a Spirit Saint, he can handle it, before walking away, leaving Flender calling after him. |

The total distance that they have to run/walk is 830 km. At 63 km San and Mubai are running out front ahead of the others when San tells Mubai to stop. Mubai asks what’s wrong and San states that Master had told them that they are one as a team, and while he a Mubai were okay so far, the others looked to be struggling. San then says that the true goal is not to test them individually, but their combined effort. The others catch up to San and Mubai and collapse for a break. After some conversation San walks over to Oscar’s basket and removes some of the rocks, putting them into his own basket, stating that though they can’t use Spirit Power, as long as everyone finishes and the total load remains the same it’s fine. Oscar agrees then states they should travel at Rongrong’s speed (she’s the slowest) to save everyone effort, and so they can switch around the stones for those who need it. They then start off again, passing some students from Blue Sunshine Academy who recognize them.
At the 83 km mark Xiaogang is waiting for them with drinks, which they take and discover that the water has salt in it (to replenish physical strength). After drinking they start off again. By 500 km everyone is having a hard time, with Rongrong and Oscar having the hardest, so San and Mubai take their rocks. At a little over 700 km Hongjun collapses and the others pause. Then the students from Blue Sunshine Academy come out of nowhere and start beating on Hongjun, saying that they had been waiting all morning to do so. San rushes to Hongjun’s rescue and even exhausted manages to beat all three students with his bare hands (even when one pulls a knife, he just takes it and destroys it with Xuan Yu Hand), then Mubai scares them off. Mubai then takes Hongjun’s rocks and they start up again. At the rest stop while the kids are drinking salt water Xiaogang notices that they have been redistributing the rocks among each other and smiles. Flender comes up behind Xiaogang as the kids take off again and asks about the Blue Sunshine Academy, to which Xiaogang responds that they will take care of them in the tournament, surprising Flender. At 825 km Mubai starts to collapse but San catches him. Mubai says that he can make it but the others still take some of his rocks. At 827 km Oscar takes a rock off San (to which Rongrong comments that Oscar looks like a man today). At 828 km the girls are all supporting each other and the guys are supporting each other. By the time they reach 830 km they are all supporting each other and immediately all collapse when they cross the line. San helps the others get situated before stating he still has two more laps, to which Wu says she’ll go with him before collapsing. Behind him Mubai says he will go with him too and the two clasp hands fist bump style before turning to go, then promptly falling unconscious, with the others joining soon after and Xiaogang watching in mild amusement. San wakes up back in his room in a medicine bath, with Oscar across from him asleep in his own bath. San reminisces how he had never felt friendship in his last life because he was always alone (a part of the Tang Sect yet an Outsider) and that he’s glad he can finally experience what it is like in this life. Reading a note from Xiaogang, he goes to the dining room to eat, joining Mubai who’s already there. Mubai comments how the Grandmaster is more hard on them then Flender and asks if he was this hard on San, to which San shakes his head and says this is the first time he’s done this type of training. Wu then joins them grabbing some food, followed by Zhuqing, who Mubai gives his seat to. The next morning Xiaogang says that they did excellent, but that San needs to finish his laps. San nods and starts off, followed by Wu. Rongrong then says they should all go together since they are a team and the others all agree, running after San and Wu and leaving a very proud Xiaogang behind. Time jump to 3 months later with Oscar collapsing on the bed relieved that training is over for the day. San walks over to his desk where the boxes from the Smith guide are, which contain the Hidden Weapons he had commissioned. |

034 |
San’s looking through the box with the pieces of the Hidden Weapons in them thinking about how all he needs to do is put them together and give them to everyone now, when Hongjun crashes through the door of his and Oscar’s room looking beat up. San helps him sit down and Oscar gives him a Recovery Sausage and they ask him what happened, Hongjun responding that he was beat up by a perverted Uncle. Mubai, who was walking past the door, notices everyone and joins them, and Hongjun asks him to help get revenge. He then explains that now that they were on vacation he was wanting to ask out a girl that had caught his eye 2 days ago, one of the receptionists of the Arena; she shot him down badly. Not wanting to give up he waited till she got off of work to ask again, and pretty much interrupted a guy that was trying to kidnap her. Hongjun stays to fight the guy while he tells the girl to run, but the guy is a Spirit Ancestor with 4 Rings and quickly beats him, before stepping over him like he was nothing. After asking around Hongjun finds out that the guy is called Bu Le and he’s rather infamous in the neighborhood for being a criminal, committing crimes in broad daylight and molesting pretty young women. The guys then all agree to go after Bu Le, not just for revenge but for justice.
The guys try to sneak out but are caught by Wu, who after hearing the story insists on joining them to represent all girls, to which San agrees (probably figuring she would just follow them anyway). When they get the bridge next to the Arena Mubai asks Hongjun for more details and Hongjun states that Bu Li was a Control Type like San and that his Soul manifested as 2 large black hands coming out of his back and black smoke, covering his movements and restricting Hongjun’s (he had used 2 Rings to do so). San says that knowing only 2 of his 4 Rings makes it hard to come up with a plan and Oscar says they can just use the Mushroom Sausage to get away if they need to. They walk to the neighborhood he is known to terrorize, but have no luck finding him. Wu then proposes an idea; using herself as bait. It works and Bu Le notices and goes after her, and she plays the cute innocent girl looking for sweets (making Oscar ask if San gave her anything (lol)). Bu Le agrees to help her find sweets and leads her into an alley, and when he decides to act Wu tricks him with Charm then starts attacking him. |
009
035 |
As Wu attacks Bu Le San states that they don’t have to worry since Bu Le won’t escape Wu’s Eight Stage Drops. Mubai asks what that is and San answers it’s a technique that results in the person being dropped eight times from the air and can’t be stopped once it starts. The guys then watch cringing as Wu kicks Bu Le into the air, then promptly beats him all over the place midair using teleport (Omnislash 2.0), before sending him crashing back down unconscious. The guys are then slightly disappointed in not getting a shot at him and decide to leave since Bu Le wasn’t going to be doing any ‘evil’ for a while (Wu said he would have trouble moving for at least 3 months), but San stops them and says that it’s not enough, but he has an idea.
Scene change to Flender telling Xiaogang that all the money for the year was used up that past 3 months on the extra food, medicine, and training. Xiaogang says he knows and that in the next few days the kids will start the second stage of training, which will solve the money problem. Bu Le wakes up tied to a pillar in front of the Arena with a confession sign around his neck and a crowd in front of him. Before the patrol guards can notice him though his two friends E Kao and Tian Ya find him and help him escape. Kao notices he has several broken bones and dislocations and Bu Le insists he wants revenge. The next morning the kids meet Xiaogang in the town square, and Xiaogang says that for the past 3 months they have been working on their base, but that now that is not enough, and that they will be starting the second phase. He then says that the next destination is the Great Spirit Arena, where they have already registered, and that getting the Silver Badge will now mark the end of their second stage training. He adds that not only do they have to get a Silver Badge for 1v1, but for team battles as well (which he has signed them up for using the name Shrek Seven Devils), and that he’s adding conditions; 1: they have to wear a mask, 2: they cannot use their real names, 3: they cannot use Hidden Weapons, and 4: they have to fight twice per day. Oscar asks if that applies to him and Rongrong, and Xiaogang says if they don’t want to they can continue base training, causing Oscar to quickly backtrack. Later the evening they decide on the teams of two, with Oscar begging Mubai to team up and Mubai reluctantly accepting. Xiaogang supported Rongrong teaming up with Hongjun, but she chooses to team up with Zhuqing, saying Hongjun is strong enough to be okay in 1v1 battles (San is already paired up with Wu ( Three Five Combination)). Xiaogang then gives everyone a mask and tells them that he has registered their team name as Shrek 7 Monsters, and that he will use code names for them so that their names are not announced in the Arena. Mubai is Evil Eye White Tiger, Oscar gets Sausage Monopoly, San ended up with Thousand Hands Asura, Hongjun gets Evil Fire Phoenix, Wu is Soft Bones Demon Rabbit, Rongrong is 7 Treasures Glazed Tile, and Zhuqing is Hell Civet (so pretty much just using the names of their Souls). |

036 |
The kids all enter the Arena dressed in black and individually colored costumes, and the first match is 2v2 with San and Wu, which Xiaogang goes with them to watch. Their opponents are team Cat Rat Combination. After a brief game of dodge team Cat Rat Combination go for a combo move with Rat at the bottom and Cat on his shoulders with them spinning, anything in rang getting attacked by Cat’s claws (they called it Tornado of Blood). Another brief game of dodge with San using his vines to help Wu move out of the rang of some attacks. San then manages to infect Rat with Parasite, restricting his movements and allowing Wu to KO Cat.
Back in the Arena wait room for team Shrek the others celebrate their victories, in 5 1v1 and 3 2v2 they won them all. They then get ready for the Team battle and Mubai states that as the Control Type San should be in charge of the strategy, and everyone agrees. San puts Mubai, Wu, and Zhuqing out front as the attackers, himself in the middle to support everyone, and Hongjun, Oscar, and Rongrong in the back with Hongjun protecting the other two. On their way to their match San senses someone watching them. For their first match they are up against team Mad Battle, who has 7 consecutive wins and is on a fast track to Silver badge. Brief flashback to the leader of team Mad Battle and the girl on the team barging into Shrek’s meeting room when they are planning and taking a seat. The leader then tells Zhuqing she has a nice body and goes to grab her (she tells him to go away), but Mubai intercepts him telling him Zhuqing told him to leave. After a brief scuffle with Mubai looking to be at a slight disadvantage they are separated by the Arena Supervisor, Manager Ao, who threatens to disqualify Mad Battle Team if the leader (who he calls Mad Rhinoceros (Mad Xi)) didn’t knock it off. After Rhino backs down and leaves Ao tells Shrek that he is on the team they will be facing, and that everyone on the team are levels 35 and above. He states that they have only been there for 7 days but have won every battle every day, and that their opponents mostly end up seriously injured or dead, before he leaves. Oscar mentions that Rhino was there to test them and San says that Rhino is probably a Defense-Power type and that he will help handle him. On the battle stage everyone summons their Souls, with the other team being surprised with Rongrong’s 7 Treasure Soul, and Xiaogang who is watching deduces that the main threats are Rhino and the woman, who is a Control Type with a Spider Soul. |

They start the battle and San deduces they are entirely an offensive team that tries to beat their opponents as quickly as possible. The woman starts off with trying to capture then with a giant web but Hongjun burns it. Mubai and Rhino are going 1v1 with Rongrong supporting Mubai, when the two agility types go after Rongrong and Oscar, but are stopped by San’s vines. Rhino goes to help them but San uses his Third ability to bind him. The woman calls for the others to help Rhino, but Mubai and Wu intercept them, and when the woman goes to do it herself San challenges her directly. She thinks she has the advantage with poison but San’s poison is more corrosive. Zhuqing uses the distraction to target Mad Battle’s Support type, but he manages to activate his Third Ring, Berserker, before he is knocked off the stage. Berserker increases Mad Battle’s speed and strength, ups their power by 15%, and numbs them to all pain while taking away their ability to reason. Shrek uses Oscar’s Mushroom sausages to take to the air, then have to dodge while the other team starts throwing rocks at them. The woman manages to get Rongrong with a web and knocks her into one of the pillars, with Oscar catching Rongrong and taking the impact for her. The woman then uses her webs to tie the members of her team to Rhino’s arms, letting him fling the members up into the air to attack Shrek. Oscar’s and Rongrong’s flight time runs out but they are caught by Mubai and Wu. San, seeing the condition of those affected by Berserk (everyone but the woman), deduces that it’s not a skill they can handle long with the strain on their bodies. The woman deduces the flying skill has a time limit. San asks Oscar how many more Mushroom sausages he can make, and he says one, giving it to San. San then decides to make a bet, telling the others to drop out and let him take them on alone because he believes he can outlast the berserker skill (which would weaken those it was used on after it’s lifted thanks to backlash). The others reluctantly agree, choosing to trust San, and drop down out of bounds when their flight time ended. San then lands on the stage and faces a now weakened Mad Battle. Rhino attacks first but San is able to piledrive him into the ground, then the woman tries for the opening to bind San with her webs, but his Soul Bone draws her web and energy into it, causing her to be pulled to San where he grabs her by the throat. San then uses his vines to pick up the rest of her team and fling them off the stage. The woman asks how and San tells her his Third Ring is a Man Faced Spider, which horrifies her, before he flings her off the stage, winning the match. |

Back at Shrek Xiaogang asks how they think they did and they admitted they had been a mess with no coordination. Xiaogang says they actually did really good, managing to defeat an undefeated team for their first battle, and that they exceeded his expectations. He then says they are good, but not perfect yet.
Xiaogang, Flender, and Zhao go outside and Flender admits that Xiaogang is a much better teacher then him, able to get the kids so far in so little time. Xiaogang teases Flender about admitting that Xiaogang is better than him at something, before the three teachers go for drinks. Over the next month Shrek continues to rake in victories in 1v1, 2v2, and team battles (with them being undefeated in their 27 team battles), becoming rather famous for being the team with the longest victory record. When Xiaogang goes to enter them for their next team match the receptionist gets Manager Ao, who invites Xiaogang for a talk. Ao asks to have the Shrek team start fighting in the central area (where fights Silver and above are conducted) and when Xiaogang asks why he wants to promote the team a day early to Silver Ao admits that there is a new Silver Rank team, the Emperor Team, that came in 3 days age that was brought in by nobles, and that the nobles are betting and winning ridiculous amounts of money off them, hurting the Arena financially. Ao then states that Shrek has the best chance against them because they all have optimal Rings and that the Arena will pay Shrek 10,000 gold coins (on top of the 500 each they will make by winning in the central arena). He then gives Xiaogang a book containing information on the team, which Xiaogang gives to the kids in the wait room telling them he accepted the match and if they win they will get 1000 gold pieces each, with the remaining 3000 going toward their 3rd Stage training. The kids start reading up on their opponents; Captain: Yu Tianheng rank 39 Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Attack type Soul (who Xiaogang appears to know if his downturned reaction was any indication), Vice captain: Dugu Yan rank 38 Jade Phosphor Serpent Control type Soul, Member: Osler rank 36 Black Leopard Agility type Soul, Member: Xie Lingling rank 35 Nine Heart Flowering Apple Auxiliary type Soul, Member: Shi Mò rank 37 Black Tortoise Defense type Soul, Member: Shi Mó (twin brother of the other one) rank 38 Black Tortoise Defense type Soul, Member: Yu Feng rank 36 Wind Chime Bird Agility type Soul. Xiaogang says that while San still can’t use his Hidden Weapons he can use his Soul Bone, and that any chance of victory will come down to San, Mubai, and Zhuqing. He then says that the Tyrant Dragon is to Beast types as Rongrong’s 7 Treasure is to Auxiliary types (in other words, the best), and that the team will have to take down Tianheng and Yan to win. |

Xiaogang states that the Vice captain’s Soul reminded him of someone and asks Flender if he remembers too (which he does), then tells the kids that Yan is probably related to the Famous Poison Master, Dugu Bo (who has the Jade Phosphor Serpent Soul as well), and that she is probably a Control Type that uses poison. Rongrong cuts in saying that they should also focus on Xie Lingling since her Soul Nine Flowering Apple can heal pretty much anything as long as she has the Power for it. Xiaogang mentions how the other team has a perfect combination of skill, but San states that Shrek is not inferior to them and that their own combination of skills are comparable so they can win. The others agree and they have a group hands-in moment.
Scene change to the other team, and their team Master (Manager? Teacher? The adult in charge of their team) telling them that this time their opponents are strong and that they were being upgraded to Silver early. He then states to look out for San (surprising the team since San has Blue Silver Grass), Rongrong and Mubai. The Master then states that no matter what this time they are not allowed to seriously hurt the other team (pointedly singling out Yan over that) and when they ask why he states he’ll tell them after the fight, before leaving. The two teams then meet at the Central Arena (which is huge), with San wondering about how Yan’s coloring is possible (neon purple hair and acid green eyes). Flender, who is watching with Xiaogang and Zhao, appears to know the Master of the other team but says he will tell Xiaogang about it later. The teams then release their Souls and Xiaogang states that Shrek is at an overwhelming disadvantage, then wonders how San will deal with it. Mubai starts by rushing forward and attacking, but he is blocked by the Black Tortoise brothers who send him flying back, with Tianheng jumping at him stating he messed up and shooting as lightning attack at him. Before it hits San uses his vines to pull Mubai out of the way, stating that it is Tianheng who messed up. |

The fight continues with Mubai going against the Black Tortoise brothers, Zhuqing taking on Osler, Wu taking on Yu Feng, and San pulling his teammates out of the way of attacks that they can’t avoid themselves with his vines. Tianheng is impressed that San can keep track of the entire battlefield and states that their Master was right about San being the one to watch out for. He then attacks San directly but San dodges with Purple Demon Eyes and Ghostly Trace, leading Tianheng into a trap where he is surrounded by the members of Shrek and away from his team.
In the battle preplanning San states that they need to take down Tianheng since he is their most powerful opponent on the Emperor Team, and that they can use his pride and arrogance to trap him, to which San would use himself as bait for. It works, but Shrek does find themselves struggling against his powerful lightning attacks. However, after constant attacks they are able to do some damage and almost knock him out. Yan gets upset and releases her Third Ring Poison (directly disobeying their Master’s order since the poison kills) but San brings out a couple of flasks of wine and uses Hongjun and Mubai to ignite them, disbursing the poison with the alcohol (poison was the Tang Sect’s specialty so he knows how to deal with it). Shrek seems to have the advantage until Lingling (who they had honestly forgotten about) uses her Soul Nine Flowering Apple to heal Tianheng. The battle begins anew and Mubai notices while Tianheng is physically recovered his energy isn’t. Zhuqing takes on Osler again while Hongjun fights Yu Feng and Mubai duels Tianheng, leaving San and Wu to duel the Black Tortoise brothers, whose strength is not inferior to Tianheng’s. San and Wu do pretty good dodging attacks, but then the brothers manage to trap Wu in a Combination Attack and hit her pretty hard before San uses his vines to get her out. San then uses a Tang Sect Technique to stop her bleeding (but she’s still in bad shape), causing her to pass out, and the other Shrek members start furiously attacking the other team. |

Mubai and Zhuqing immediately go to the offensive, initiating the Spirit Fusion (or Spirit Harmonization, which ever you want to call it) technique for Hell White Tiger (a giant Tiger Soul Beast), despite the Emperor’s teams’ attempts to stop them. The Hell White Tiger’s roar manages to knock Osler out of the Arena and Tianheng down, but Mubai and Zhuqing are not able to hold it long and it causes Zhuqing to pass out. San meanwhile is extremely pissed off about Wu and summons his Spider Soul Bone, immediately using his Third Ring to tie up Yu Feng. When the brothers attack him, he uses Ghostly Trace to get behind Tianheng so that the shells that were tracking him hit Tianheng instead. Using the brothers’ distraction San gets right in front of them, piercing them both with the Spider Legs and poisoning them, before walking passed them toward Yan. Yan tries to use her poison on him, but it seems it has no effect, and he uses the Spider legs to lift her into the air by her shoulders, poisoning her too. Before he can do anything else Tianheng calls out that they surrender, so San drops her, then goes over to Lingling and demands she heal his friends, threatening the lives of the brothers and Yan if she doesn’t. She does and San lets her go while retrieving the poison he had infected the brothers and Yan with, before asking the commentator to announce their win, which she does. Tianheng then tells Shrek that they are strong, but next time they’ll be even stronger. Mubai responds that they’ll still win and the Emperor team turns to leave, with Yan telling San that she’ll remember this and that someday her poison will beat his.
Back in the Emperor team’s waiting room the Master comes in and they all start apologizing, each placing the blame on themselves for their defeat. The Master states that it is fine, and that it actually worked out better with them knowing defeat now and being able to grow from it. In the Shrek waiting room the Shrek team is congratulated for their win, and after some nudging from Oscar, Xiaogang agrees to let the kids have a vacation for 2 weeks before they start the 3rd stage of their training. They are then interrupted by a knock on the door, which reveals to be the Master of the Emperor team, who introduces himself as Qin Ming, a former graduate of Shrek. The kids are shocked and Flender introduces Ming to Xiaogang, and Ming greets him politely, before Xiaogang states that Ming doesn’t have to be so polite. Ming is confused until Flender states that the captain of the Emperor Team, Tianheng, is actually Xiaogang’s nephew. Xiaogang gets upset with Flender, stating he has no relations with the Lightning Dragon Clan anymore, before leaving. Flender then introduces Ming to the kids, and Ming states that they are stronger then even the team of the Heaven Dou Imperial Academy, and the most powerful group Shrek has produced yet, to which Zhao cuts in and states they are the last students that Shrek will have, which upsets Ming and causes him to ask if they are still having money problems. Flender admits that yes, there is that, but also that the teachers are old and that retiring would be nice. He then tells the kids to go get their points, effectively throwing them out of the room. One their way to get the points San asks what the Heaven Dou Imperial Academy is, surprising the others, who tell him the Imperial Academy is the largest in the Heaven Dou country, and is run by the Emperor himself, but that it only accepts members from noble families. Scene break to the outside of the Arena with the Emperor team leaving, but are intercepted by Xiaogang, who asks Tianheng if he remembers him.

The kids meet up with Manager Ao, who gives them the money they are promised as well as their individual score sheets. Everyone has good scores, but it is San’s that surprises everyone; he has a score of 5565 points with an undefeated record, having not lost once in his 1v1, 2v2, and team battles for the entire month. Ao is surprised and states that no one on the Continent has had an undefeated record like that before, then gives the kids their new badges, with San getting Gold and everyone else getting Silver. Hongjun then freaks out, pointing out that since San has Gold, for team battles they will have to fight Gold Ranked teams now.
Back with Team Emperor Tianheng recognizes Xiaogang as his uncle, and Xiaogang invites Tianheng for a talk. Xiaogang congratulates Tianheng on reaching level 39 and Tianheng asks Xiaogang to come home with him, stating that both his father and grandfather miss Xiaogang terribly. Xiaogang basically tells him no and to drop it, then tells him to not fear defeat, but fear not learning from it. Xiaogang then states that he didn’t lose to the other team, but himself when he let his pride control him. Tianheng states he will not lose if he gets another chance, to which Xiaogang states he will get another chance before revealing that he is the Shrek Team’s Master, but saying that he really only has one disciple, San, which surprises Tianheng. Tianheng then asks Xiaogang if he can train him and Xiaogang says no before saying the Tianheng should aim to beat San first. Tianheng states that in a 1v1 he could beat San, and when Xiaogang goes to correct him, he cuts himself off, then states that Tianheng will understand things later, and leaves. Back with Shrek the kids join the teachers and Ming in the Arena dining hall, and Ming says he now knows why the kids wear masks for their battles given their young age, and that if they take age into account the Shrek team really is better then the Emperor one (who are all a couple years older). Mubai then asks Ming’s Rank and he admits to being level 62. Zhao invites the kids to eat on Fender’s dime, and while they are all talking Ming brings up that if they were not from Shrek he would invite them to attend the Imperial Academy. Xiaogang then joins them and states that they can be in Shrek and attend the Imperial Academy. Xiaogang brings up the Tournament that happens every year and states that the Shrek team can represent the Imperial Academy as its’ second team (it can enter two teams a year) and Flender starts arguing stating that the kids belong to Shrek. Xiaogang then asks if Flender can 1, provide a premium place for cultivation and 2, guarantee the kids the right to participate in the Tournament (The Continental Advanced Academy Soul Dueling Tournament) that year, before asking why Flender made the Academy in the first place (to raise geniuses). Flender stutters, before sighing and sitting back down, with Xiaogang continuing by saying that the Tournament only takes official Academies and that technically Shrek is an unofficial one, so they can’t participate. He then says he wants Shrek to join with the Imperial Academy, but under certain conditions; the teachers all join too and only they can train the kids. Flender, depressed, stands and tells Ming that he’s leaving everything up to Xiaogang because he is correct about it being the best for the kids, before leaving, Hongjun following him. Outside Hongjun approaches Flender and tells him to not be sad and that this is like “borrowing a chicken to generate eggs”, that they will be able to use the Imperial Academies resources for the price of entering the Tournament for them, winning both ways. Which cheers Flender up, and he mentally thanks Xiaogang for coming up with a way for Shrek to properly retire in a good light. Back at Shrek Academy the Teachers tell the kids to go take a break, and that in two months they’ll head over to the Imperial Academy. San then asks Rongrong if she was still interested in commissioning some Hidden Weapons for her Clan, to which she says she needs to go to her father, the Clan Head, and ask. |

For vacation San ends up creating schematics for Hidden Weapons, actual Hidden Weapons for himself and his friends (including Cluster Soul Chasing Ball), and meditating for most of it. A couple days before the group leaves for Imperial Academy San rejoins his friends, who tease him for being such a shut in for their vacation. When they ask what he made he pulls out a grappling hook, which he calls a Flying God Claw, which he then fired through a tree and reeled himself in with. He then gives everyone their own, with the others marveling about how he comes up with these things and him thinking that the Tang Clan did, he just knows how to make them.
A couple days later everyone meets outside the Shrek gates then takes off flying using Oscar’s Mushroom Sausage. They go a ways, then stop at a hotel for the night, but as the guys settle in Wu pulls San out into the hall complaining about sore feet and legs and asking if he can massage them. San hesitantly agrees and takes her into a nearby tree so they can sit down, where he massages her legs. The two have a cute moment where Wu seems to be almost confessing that she likes him as more then a brother, but due to his obliviousness she gives up, and the two go back inside. When San gets back to his room the other guys admit to eavesdropping on them before the left for the tree, teasing San about wanting massages too. To which he says sure, but he will he using the Spider Legs, effectively scaring Oscar and Hongjun, and amusing Mubai. The next day they make a pit stop at the Capital of the Silver Kingdom, where the teachers tell the kids they are fighting in the city’s Arena which is hardcore, unruly, and disheveled, the complete opposite of the elegance of the Arena of Suotuo City they are used to. |

At the Arena’s reception desk the receptionist tells them that there are no rank 30 Gold teams there, so proposes they take on a Rank 40 (levels 40-49) team instead. Flender goes to turn him down but Xiaogang interrupts him, saying that’s fine, then asking for the most brutal team the Arena has that likes killing. Flender freaks out but Xiaogang says he knows what he is doing and asks if there is a team like that, and the receptionists says yes, the Fiend Team, who has killed a total of 63 people and critically injured 98. Xiaogang agrees to a match with them, reasoning to Flender that it is best that the kids learn an important lesson now rather than later.
Before the match everyone is betting against Shrek, (1 to 20) but Flender bets 30,000 gold that they’ll win, making the crowd laugh, except a man in a business suit, who also bets 10,000 gold on them, surprising Flender. When Flender asks him about it the man states that he is a merchant who does business in the Balak Kingdom (where Suotuo is) and saw the match between Shrek and Emperor Team. Xiaogang looks through the info about the Fiend Team while telling the kids they can use San’s Hidden Weapons because he wants to see the effectiveness of them in battle. San hesitates, and Xiaogang then says that the Fiend Team is known for being especially brutal and tells San to pretty much show no mercy, to which San states that he understands. Before the kids start the match Flender asks Xiaogang if San’s Godly Zhuge Crossbows will hit the Fiend Team, and Xiaogang states that if the Fiend team uses their Third or Fourth Rings right off the bat then probably not, but the odds of then doing that are slim since this is the first time San’s Hidden Weapons have been used in the open. The match starts with the Fiend Team rushing Shrek, but when they get close the entire Team pulls their triggers (albeit a little shakily for some). All the darts hit true, achieving instant kills on all 7 members of Fiend team. San’s friends freak out, with San being the only completely calm one, though Mubai is a close second. Flender states that 90% of his winnings will go toward supporting the families of the people the Fiend team had hurt or killed, the remaining 10% going to Shrek. In the Arena passageway with the kids everyone, minus San and Mubai (and to a slight degree Wu), are taking their first kill pretty hard. San states they were a murderous team and Xiaogang joins them saying that as Spirit Masters they would have to kill sooner of later, and that its better they get over it now or their hesitance may cost them their lives later. Flender then joins then, telling the kids about the Fiend teams death and injury rate, and stating that they were pretty much being paid to commit crimes. The adults then leave the kids to cope, and Flender asks if it was Xiaogang’s intention to punish the Fiend Team all along, which he says yes, but it was also to put the kids in that situation so that if they were ever in a situation like that again they would be less hesitant to pull the trigger. That night the kids have a hard time falling asleep. |

The group finally make it to the Imperial Academy and are quite surprised with how big it is. Before they can go far though they run into a group of pompous students who refuse to believe that such ‘poor’ individuals were invited to the Academy. One of the students goes to attack the Shrek group but Mubai easily knocks him away, before challenging the ‘leader’ of the little group, and promptly using him as a glorified punching bag, making the Shrek teachers wonder why the Imperial Academy students are so weak since the Emperor Team was so strong. After Flender calls Mubai back Ming then arrives, greeting Shrek and asking the Imperial Academy students why they had delayed them, before assigning the students 10 laps and escorting Shrek away. However, after Shrek leaves it is revealed that the ‘leader’ that Mubai beat up is actually a son of the Emperor.
While escorting them inside the Academy Ming explains how the Academy was built in this specific location so that that students have access to different terrains (snow, water, heat, etc.) to cultivate. Ming then states that while the Academy had 500 students, all from noble families, the quality is not very good. He explains how there is 3 ranks for students (and teachers) and that the Emperor Team was the highest of the third rank, while the students they just met were from the first (lowest) rank. He then states that the Academy Board of Education is run by the 3 strongest and oldest teachers and takes them to the Education building, where 3 men meet them outside it. Flender introduces himself and the man in the middle of the three greets him and introduces himself as Meng Shenji, with the shorter plump man introducing himself as Bai Baoshan, and the tall blond introducing himself as Zhi Lin (all three are over level 80 with powerful Souls, surprising everyone). Shrek is then invited inside in a lounge/meeting area, where Shenji starts off with saying that it was a surprise when Shrek beat the Emperor Team, and that Shrek has taught its students well. Flender then laments that despite that Shrek will be no more, with Shenji stating that isn’t the case because the Imperial Academy will take all the students and teachers in. Zhi Lin then stands up, asking about Shrek’s ‘genius control type’, and Xiaogang indicates San forward. However, Lin then yanks San to the center of the room using Power and starts exerting a bit of his own Soul Pressure on San, to test San’s Power and willpower (which the Shrek teachers are confident will show that San has a lot of potential). San immediately starts meditating in his mind, which allows him to resist the pressure that would have brought any other level 33 to their knees (that and his Soul Bone, which has enhanced his physical stats). After a minute the Imperial teachers are surprised San hasn’t been forced to manifest his Soul yet, since that is what happens when the Power of a higher level is used on a lower. Lin, out of curiosity of how much San can bear, starts increasing the Power he’s exerting on San (which was equivalent to level 35). At level 40 San is forced to manifest his Blue Silver Grass, but Lin notices that that his Power is being absorbed by San and that the Blue Silver Grass does not have that ability. He then continues to increase his Power pressure, and San starts fighting to not reveal his Hammer. At level 44 San’s Spirit Bone activates, surprising the Imperial Teachers and causing Lin to stop pressuring San. The Bone then absorbs the excess Power before deactivating. Xiaogang smiles then stands up and bows to Lin, thanking him for providing the push and Power San needed to fully incorporate the Bone into his body, before asking the teachers to please keep it a secret since External Spirit Bones are highly sought after and there are those they may try to kill San. The Imperial teachers are now thrilled about the talents of San and the other kids, saying they will gladly provide whatever the kids need to get stronger, only asking that the kids represent the Imperial Academy in return. However, just then the doors slam open and a gaudily dressed man enters… |

A bunch of armed knights enter the room, followed by a gaudily dressed man and the boy that Mubai used as a punching bag. Behind them is a man in black and green armor that causes the indoor plants (and even insects) he pasts to wilt and die, and the teachers identify him as a Titled Douluo. The gaudily dressed man asks to speak with Shenji, then demands to know who the ‘guests’ are, and Shenji introduces Flender, then introduces the man as Prince Xue Xing of Heaven Dou Empire (the Emperor’s little brother), and states that Xing manages the Imperial Academy. Xing then states since he’s never heard of Shrek it must be a trash school and Shenji argues that one of their own teachers, Ming, graduated from there and that the teachers and students are joining the Imperial Academy. Xing then demands for an assessment, stating that the teachers might not be good for the Academy seeing as when they first arrived they let one of their students beat up his Nephew, who is the fourth prince of the empire, Prince Xue Beng. Flender states for Beng to tell everyone why he was beat up, causing Xing to backtrack slightly saying that they’ll ignore Beng’s humiliation for now, but that he still wants an assessment. When asked how he wants to assess them, Xing states that if they can withstand Mr. Dugu (the Titled Douluo he has with him) for 5 minutes they pass, causing everyone to hesitate (he’s at least 20 levels above them), but if they can’t they need to leave. Mubai reacts to that, but before he can get close to Xing Dugu knocks him out with a glance. Lin pulls Mubai away from them and helps heal him, while Shenji tells Xing he is going too far, to which Xing states that as the manager he has the right to help decide the personnel. Dugu then activates his Soul, showing 2 yellow Rings, 2 purple Rings, and 5 black Rings, as well as his Soul, the Jade Phosphor Serpent (during this Wu seems to get scared and ducks down behind one of the chairs). Xiaogang identifies Dugu as Dugu Bo, the Poison Master, and Dugu states that since he knows him he should know to just leave. Xiaogang agrees, but Flender gets offended about all the insults, and it’s only Xiaogang pointing out that the kids might get hurt that gets Flender to back down. After Xiaogang thanks the Board members for their warm hospitality Shenji, Lin, and Baoshan decide to step up and challenge Dugu, stating that they will do so in Shrek’s place and telling Xing that the Emperor will hear about this (causing Xing to cringe). Flender, however, stops them, stating that Shrek does not wish to trouble them (probably knowing that a fight between high level Douluo will put everyone in the immediate area in danger) and that since the manager does not want them, they will just leave.
As Shrek is leaving the room Dugu Yan runs in calling out ‘Grandfather’, passing San who she recognizes. After she hugs Dugu she whispers to him about what happened in her previous fight with San, which gets a startled then slightly irritated reaction from him. Ming then stands up and states that since the Imperial Family seems to dislike Shrek then he should leave too, much to the Board’s horror. The Board then starts yelling at Xing, who flippantly tells them to tell the Emperor, before leaving, Dugu saying goodbye to his granddaughter and leaving with them. Outside Xing tells Beng that he caused him a lot of trouble this time, Beng states that its his job to create trouble, to which Xing states to be careful ‘because the three Board members are your brother’s men’, which causes Beng to grimace. Back with Shrek everyone is irritated, and Mubai states that they can’t give up yet, stating that even if it is for vindication Shrek can’t end. Xiaogang apologizes to Flender for proposing they merge with Imperial Academy, and Ming apologizes too, saying that he hadn’t meant for it to go that way. Flender states it’s neither of their faults and that he’s sorry for ruining Ming’s future, to which Ming states he wouldn’t have had that future without Shrek. Everyone then manages to convince Flender and he states that Shrek will not end, but that they need to find a place in the capital city. Scene change to Shrek looking around the capital, when Flender notices a notice board asking for high level teachers for Blue Tyrant Academy, which Ming recognizes. |

Ming states that the Blue Tyrant Academy is known for being strict and that it actually only accepts civilian students and rejects all nobles. Flender states that Blue Tyrant Academy is about to rival the Imperial Academy. Scene jump with Shrek meeting with the teacher hiring, with Ming introducing himself first. The guy hiring states after Ming’s introduction that no other tests are needed for him since teachers over level 60 (he’s 62) are automatically hired. This causes Flender to state that there’s no need for any further tests for any of them then, and all of Shrek’s teachers bring out their souls, showing everyone is above 60, which shocks the teacher hiring. The man then introduces himself as Yin Shu and states that since they are a higher level then him (he’s 54) he needs to take them to the Dean and let her decide on their grades and payment, which they agree to.
Shu then takes them into the forest by the school, stating that the Dean prefers peace and quiet, and that the daily affairs of the school are taken care of by the Teachers while the big issues are handled by her. As they approach a house in a clearing a voice humming is heard, which causes Xiaogang to stop as he recognizes the voice. A beautiful black haired woman is seen outside watering some flowers and as soon as Xiaogang sees her he turns away and tries to leave, only for Flender to grab his shoulder, asking him how long he plans to keep her waiting, and that it’s been 20 years since he’s seen her. Shu, unaware of what’s going on, announces to the woman that there are teachers here to apply for the job, and when she turns to them to look at them she immediately recognizes Xiaogang. She darts over and grabs his arm, asking if it is really him, and Flender greets her, calling her sister Erlong and stating that he did not know she was here. She turns and greets him and he introduces Shrek to her stating that they came here looking for enrollment for the teachers and kids. He then introduces her to Shrek as Liu Erlong, stating that years ago she was the partner of him and Xiaogang and is the third member of the Golden Iron Triangle. After the introduction Xiaogang is still faced away from her looking pained, and Flender breaks the silence asking if she will take them in. Erlong asks what happened to lead them here and Flender states it’s a long story. After hearing the story Erlong starts ranting about the Imperial Academy, before telling Flender that they are staying there and that her place is their place. Flender mentions payments and Erlong turns to him and states that is now his problem, that since he is the boss of the Golden Iron Triangle she is now giving the school to him and renaming it Shrek (which surprises everyone), and that there will be a faculty and student assembly tomorrow announcing that. She then makes Flender Dean and herself Deputy Dean, then takes everyone into the school to eat. As everyone is grabbing food Xiaogang approaches San and asks him to take a walk with him, which San agrees to and they go outside. Flender asks Erlong if she is afraid Xiaogang will run away again, and she states that there is no way she’s letting him now that they’ve been reunited again. Outside Xiaogang tells San the story about how, over 20 years ago, he was cast out of his Clan due to his Soul being a weak Variant type. Shortly after he met Flender and the two started journeying together, before meeting Erlong while on a hunt for Rings. The three then became good friends and adventured together, becoming infamous as the Golden Iron Triangle, and both he and Flender developed feelings for Erlong. However when Flender admitted his feeling to her she rejected him because she had fallen for Xiaogang, which he accepted because he loved them both, and was okay with Xiaogang being his brother and Erlong his sister-in-law. Xiaogang then states that fate was then cruel, taking their happiness away. On their wedding day they had an uninvited guest interrupt them; Xiaogang’s second uncle, who came to stop the wedding because Erlong was his daughter, making her Xiaogang’s first cousin. Horrified with the truth Xiaogang ran into the forest wanting to die, but when he tried to kill himself Flender, who had escaped from his uncle, stopped him. Xiaogang then states that after that his heart went dead, and that even though he wanted nothing more then to see Erlong he couldn’t t do that to her (during this it shows that Erlong has come outside and is eavesdropping). San then speaks up, asking if “the secular viewpoint is so important”, and that Erlong has waited for him for so many years. Xiaogang cuts in stating that it is still unfair to Erlong and that he wants her to live happily, which causes Erlong to come out, stating that she doesn’t care about the secular viewpoint and just wants to be with him. Xiaogang finally turns and looks straight at her for the first time since they got there, and San walks away, leaving them to have their moment. |

After 20 years Xiaogang and Erlong finally hug each other again, causing Flende,r who’s watching from a nearby tree, to tear up in happiness. San watches them for a moment, then smiles and leaves into the forest to go back, but then suddenly gets a cold feeling and goes on guard. Someone comes up from behind and he turns to attack them. Meanwhile both Erlong and Xiaogang get the cold feeling too and immediately worry about San, jumping into the forest.
Scene break to a cave deeper in the forest where San is regaining consciousness surrounded by snakes. Dugu, who was the one to kidnap him, tells him to stop faking sleep if he is awake, then asks him how he nullified Yan’s Third Ring. San insults him saying he’s not much of a Poison Master if he doesn’t know about powders that can nullify venoms. Dugu gets annoyed that San is giving him attitude and uses his Power on him when San comments that his Poison is rubbish. San says while out of breath that his poison is effective, but that it’s still rubbish because he is poisoning himself with his own poison. Dugu states that while he has poisoned others he has never poisoned himself. San then asks if when it’s rainy or cloudy if his ribs feel numb at noon and 11:00 pm for two hours, or if at midnight his head and feet have a prickling pain, which makes Dugu pause. San then states that he has poisoned himself and that its down to the bone morrow, causing Dugu to lash out. San manifests his Spirit Bone and blocks the attack, but Dugu is able to block San’s follow up attack. Seeing the Spirit Bone Dugu thinks it’s no surprise Yan lost, before using his Power to pull San to him and grabbing him by the neck, commenting that even though his poison is rubbish he can still kill San with it. San then states (while attacking with his Spirit Bone but Dugu has a sort of barrier up) that Dugu’s poison is not only harming him, but his descendants as well. He then states while Dugu is slowly dying his granddaughter won’t be so lucky since she’s been exposed to his poison since the womb and doesn’t have much time. Dugu releases him and asks him if he can cure him since he knows so much, and San states that it’s better to just let him die and remove a threat from the world, and that threatening him is pointless since Dugu is going to kill him anyway. Dugu thinks that since he’s had the poison all his life there may not be much of a chance for him, but that if there is a way to save his granddaughter he’ll take it. He then tells San that if he can cure their poison he won’t kill him, and that he will help him with three things. Sans states to stop making empty promises and to make a vow, causing Dugu to hesitate before stating if San can prove he can help them he’ll make the vow. San asks how Dugu will test him, and Dugu says that San has to prove he can survive his poison. When San says he has nothing on him to help with that, Dugu states that they are in his sanctuary which is filled with all kinds of herbs, and that San has a day to use those to make antidotes, after which Dugu will poison him with three types of poison. He then takes San outside of the cave and San notices they are near a hot spring. Dugu then uses his Soul to lower himself down (they exited the cave at the top of a basin) and challenges San to get down himself, which he does using the Spider Legs, surprising Dugu in his usage of them that way. The basin is filled to the brim with Immortal Herbs and crystals, with a hot spring in the middle. San takes a look around and notices that the spring is a Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, which is one of the Three Treasures of Hidden Weapons in the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record, and is surprised to find one on the Douluo Continent. He then thinks that the Well is probably why Dugu is still alive. San tells Dugu he now has a 50% chance for curing him, and when Dugu gets annoyed San says he’s had his poison for years so it’s harder to cure him (and that if anything he can ease his pain), but he is positive he can cure his granddaughter. Dugu then says San has a day, and that they are deep in the forest so if San tries to leave the basin (which is surrounded by a barrier of Dugu’s poison) the older Spirit Beasts around will tear him apart. Dugu then states to not touch the hot spring because it will kill him before leaving, to which San states that he knows, it is both the coldest and hottest place in the world, and that it is being near such extreme heat and cold that has kept Dugu’s poison at bay. San then activates the Purple Demon Eyes and starts looking around, finding some amazing herbs, including one that can stave off poison (but not cure it, unfortunately). He then meditates, mentally going over the knowledge from the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record, before coming to a decision, deciding that even if Dugu goes back on his word he has to take the risk. He then goes to procure the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass(winter flower). |

San carefully procures both the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and Infernal Delicate Apricot (fire flower), which are both poisonous and dangerous, and absorbs them both into his body at the same time. He immediately starts cycling between extreme hotness and coldness, and during one of the cycles of cold he falls into the Well.
Scene break to Xiaogang, Erlong, and Flender, who have been searching the forest for San for the last day. Erlong brings up that Dugu (they must have figured out that it was him) might not kill San since if he wanted to he would have done so at the school instead of kidnapping him. Xiaogang disagrees saying the Dugu only took San because he was curious about the poison that San used to defeat his granddaughter, and that Dugu will kill him after he finds out. Erlong then rants about how the Imperial Academy only knew that Dugu has a base in the Sunset Forest (where they are at) but not where in the forest it is. Flender then comments that if anything happens to San what are they going to say to ‘Him’, confusing Erlong and making Xiaogang grimace. Back in the basin in the Spring San thinks that according to the Record one must consume both the Ice Grass and Delicate Apricot to enter the Well, and that he did it to have a way to escape Dugu if he tried to kill him, but that he’s having trouble balancing the two. He then starts to fall unconscious with flashes of everyone telling him to hold on, not to die, and that they are there for him. Xiaogang, Flender, and Erlong continue running through the forest when they pick up Dugu’s Power, which they start towards. With Dugu, he’s walking through the forest wondering if San really can cure him and his granddaughter and thinking if anything San is his best chance. He then wonders if San is still alive, before deciding to go back and check on him to make sure he’s okay. As he turns to leave though he senses Power signatures approaching and wonders who’s come to challenge him, and is able to identify their levels. He attacks Xiaogang first, who dodges, and appears before them asking if they were there for him. Xiaogang immediately demands to know where San is, Dugu tells him to know his place, then Flender politely asks where San is, to which Dugu remarks that he has already killed him. Dugu then asks if they want revenge, and Flender states that he will regret killing San. The three then activate the Golden Iron Triangle Spirit Fusion (surprising Dugu that it is possible for three people to use Fusion) in a Triangle formation, where they use Pao (Xiaogang’s Soul) and transform him using all their rings combined into a giant Golden Dragon. Dugu then summons his Soul the Jade Phosphor Serpent and the Dragon and Serpent duke it out, with the Dragon seeming to have the advantage. Dugu then uses the Serpent to attack the three directly, since they can’t move from the triangle formation while the Fusion is active. The attack is blocked by a barrier and Xiaogang activates an ability to push the Serpent back, pissing off Dugu and causing him to activate hi Soul Bone, which is in the Serpents head, which causes the Serpent to shoot beams of light from its eyes, turning the Dragon’s energy attack to stone. Xiaogang deduces that Dugu has the Medusa Gaze, the top tier Soul Bone of snake type Spirit Beasts. When Dugu activates the Medusa Gaze again the three activate the Dragon’s strongest attack, consuming the Medusa Gaze attack and almost hitting the Serpent, but Dugu stops the Dragon with his barrier and eighth Ring, Time Stop. He then infects the Dragon briefly with his poison, destroying it, before throwing the three back after commenting that their Soul Fusion is the best he’s seen, but that they are still too weak. Xiaogang, realizing that his Soul Power is all used up, tells Dugu that San is his Disciple and asks if Dugu will kill only him and spare Erlong and Flender. Dugu seems amused that they think they can bargain with him, and Erlong points out that they are from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Clan and that even if they are not a match for him is he willing to piss off their Clan? Dugu then points out that when he kills them he can disintegrate their bodies, leaving no evidence for the Clan to accuse him with. |

Erlong states that that is true, then asks that since Flender is not a part of their Clan if Dugu can spare him, to which Flender responds that he is not a coward and will happily die with them so that he can watch over them in the afterlife too. Flender then tells Dugu that he can not afford to upset San’s father, that if they do not come back San’s father will come looking for them and that he is more powerful then the Blue Lightning Tyrant Clan. Dugu grabs Flender’s throat and demands to know who such a person is, and Flender responds “last name Tang and someone that can threaten you, who do you think he is?” to which Dugu releases him and backs up a few steps, disturbed when he realizes who San’s father actually is. He then states that is impossible because San has Blue Silver Grass Soul, but Xiaogang points out that San actually has 2 Martial Souls. Dugu then deduces that the safest thing to do would be to kill the three of them and San, and leave no trace behind since Hao really isn’t someone he can offend. But when he goes to attack the three San suddenly intercepts him (with the Spider Legs literally glowing pink and purple), surprising everyone. While Xiaogang asks if San is okay Dugu thinks that San saved him a trip and powers up an attack behind his back. San notices the gathering of Power and turns to Dugu, stating that since Dugu owed him three things he was using one now; Dugu is not to attack anyone from Shrek. Dugu cancels his attack and San states to the three that Dugu had taken him there to show him the poison of his Serpent Soul. Xiaogang states that Dugu had said that he had killed him and San says that Dugu was joking. San then asks Dugu if he can tell him about his granddaughter’s poison now, and that he knows he can cure it. Dugu decides to play along at that and compliments the three for having such a great disciple, before stating that he was considering making San his successor and wanted to test his current teachers to see how good they were, to which they passed. Dugu then states that he is interested in teaching San and wants to borrow him for no more then a year, to which Xiaogang and Flender reluctantly agree to at San’s meaningful looks. Dugu gives them a cure to his poison formation and the three leave, with Xiaogang hesitating briefly. When they are gone Dugu comments to San that the brighter the color the more dangerous the poison (indicating to the Spider Legs) and asks what he ate, stating that the herbs in the basin are more potent then usual. San calls him Old Freak and asks if he is worried about him even though he was going to kill him, and Dugu states that if San fails his test he will kill him. San then says that Dugu had just promised to keep him safe to his teachers and Dugu offhandedly says that a corpse is easy to keep safe. The two then head back to the basin.
With Flender, Xiaogang, and Erlong Flender asks Xiaogang if Dugu is really going to teach San, before stating that it should be okay since Dugu let them go and he wouldn’t dare to hurt San in fear of inflicting Hao’s wrath on himself. Xiaogang reluctantly agrees with him, seeming distraught. Back in the basin San leads Dugu over to the herb that shields its surroundings from poisons and asks for the first test. Dugu releases his first poison, which spreads out like a mist, but it (unknowingly to Dugu) is nullified by the herb behind San. San then demands the second test and Dugu releases a small snake, telling San to let it bite him. San recognizes the snake to be a Bamboo Emerald, whose venom turns what it touches to puss and whose body is harder then steel. San catches the snake before it bites him and Dugu asks if he is scared, to which he states he wants to make a bet; if he survives the bite he gets to keep the snake. Dugu, amused, states that San must be a Little Freak too, and agrees, but is surprised when San actually lets the snake bite him. Dugu immediately walks over to San thinking that if he doesn’t get the venom out of San now it really will kill him and is surprised when San is fine and asking for the next test, placing the snake into the 24 Moonlit Bridges. Dugu then asks if San wants to back out before the next poison, since Dugu himself can’t control it, and San states its fine and readies himself, using a pollen on his arm that will help disperse poisons. Dugu then summons his Soul and poison’s San’s arm, and San immediately starts meditating, using the Ice Grass and Delicate Apricot in his body to negate the poison with the help of his Spirit Bone and both Martial Souls, causing them to manifest (and confirming to Dugu that he has the Hammer). After he neutralizes the poison he thanks Dugu for going easy on him (Dugu had only used a little of his last poison on him) and Dugu asks again what San actually ate. San tells him about the two highly poisonous and dangerous plants he consumed and Dugu asks if those two can actually be eaten, to which San says yes, but only together so that they cancel each other out. Dugu asks if that is how San survived his poison and San answers sort of, causing Dugu to wonder if he would get the herbs effects if he drank San’s blood. San then states that he knows why Dugu is still alive, which is because of the Well, but that it’s not enough. San then states there are two ways to treat Dugu’s poison, the first one being Dugu eat the two plants as well, but by doing so all his poison would be permanently neutralized. |

Dugu becomes hesitant over his poison being neutralized, and San offers him some of his blood, but states that it will probably affect his cultivation. Dugu turns him down, asking him how he knows so much, and San states it was in a book he found when he was young (well, he’s not technically lying). Dugu asks for the second method and San states that he can give him the antidote to deal with his current poison level, but that since the poison is a part of his Martial Soul which is a Beast type and is a part of his body (meaning that unlike San Dugu can’t store poison in his Martial Soul and not have it affect his body, where San can do so with the Blue Silver Grass), the best thing he can do for the long term is get a parasite or a Soul Bone that can absorb the poison from his body, storing it in the Bone. San states that Dugu’s granddaughter can use the same method. Dugu then asks why San is actually willing to help him even when he’s been threatening to kill him, and San replies that every poison has an antidote and he’s very fond of antidotes. Dugu then decides to trust San (to a degree) and makes him swallow his Dan Zhu, a green marble that Dugu extracted from his Soul that contains half his Power, stating that if he dies during San’s treatment the Dan Zhu will burst, killing San. Dugu then states that as long as San behaves that the Dan Zhu can have a positive effect on San’s cultivation and that he will remove it when San cures him. San then makes another request, that Dugu not observe the medicine making process and comes there between 9 and 11 pm to take the antidote. Dugu reluctantly agrees before asking San if he wants him to be his teacher, to which San states that there is nothing Dugu can teach him about poison and if anything it would be the other way around. Dugu scoffs before leaving and San mentally thanks him for providing him with such an amazing resource that is the basin.
Time then starts to fly by, with San using every day to cultivate and gather different herbs from the basin. San’s friends are also using that time to train in extreme environments. Six months later Dugu joins San in the basin as he’s finishing up a project with mixing poisons in a cauldron in the Well (the two have actually become good friends over the six months) and a little while later San jumps up saying it is a success (he was surprised to actually be able to achieve it). Dugu asks what it is and San carefully takes out three black needles, telling Dugu that it is called Yama's Invitation and is a poison that can kill even a Title Douluo in three breathes. Dugu asks who Yama is and San explains that Yama is the God of Death and that Yama’s Invitation is the God asking for the recipient to join him. Dugu then bops San on the head and tells him to stop acting so mysterious. San then asks if Dugu is feeling better and Dugu hums before asking San to return his Dan Zhu, surprising San. San then asks if he isn’t worried San will poison him and Dugu remarks that if San can poison him then he isn’t the Poison Master, causing San to laugh and Dugu to smile. Dugu then retrieves his Dan Zhu and states that tomorrow he will bring his granddaughter there and San can cure her, after which San can leave. San is surprised and states that he hasn’t finished curing Dugu, to which Dugu replies ruefully that he can’t keep San there for a lifetime, that he has too many poisons in his body and that removing them all might actually be harmful, to which San contritely says he might be right (at this point he just wants to be able to help Dugu). Dugu then chuckles and says it is regretful that San isn’t a few years older, then he could get him to marry his granddaughter and make him call him Grandpa, to which San amusedly states that there is no way since she has Dugu’s genetics, and that she already has a powerful lover; the heir of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Clan, Yu Tianheng. Dugu muses if Tianheng can possibly be more outstanding then San and San states that isn’t hard since he is just a blacksmith’s son. Dugu then asks if that is so, how did San get to where he is, and San decides to tell him about his childhood. After San is done Dugu then questions where San got his knowledge of poisons since there is no way he got all he knows from a book and San states that is a secret, making Dugu laugh and say it’s up to him. Dugu then tosses San a green pouch and San asks him if “this soul tool is a bribe” before stating that he already has a storage tool, the Twenty Four Moonlight Bridges. Dugu remarks that while the Moonlight Bridges is a good tool, it only stores dead or nonliving things, while that pouch can store living things (like herbs and the little snake San won from Dugu). Dugu then teasingly asks for it back to which San stores it into his belt, teasing Dugu about asking for a gift back when he’s a mighty Douluo. Dugu then mentions that he still owes San 2 more favors and if the pouch can be considered one of them, to which San states he gave it to him willingly. Before Dugu can get too grumpy though San presents him with a set of Cluster Soul Chasing Balls. |
026
052 |
San tells Dugu what the Cluster Soul Chasing Balls are and shows him what they can be used for; when launched they rub against each other and create a spark, which sets off an explosion of the poison stored inside of them, in this case a poison that will knock out weaker opponents and slow down strong ones. The balls also shoot out dozens of tiny needles, each with their own poison. Dugu is impressed with them and asks where San comes up with these things, before stating that they are an excellent gift (after which he haggles with San on how many he gets, lol). Dugu then sighs and states that the Tournament is coming soon and that San should leave since he needs actual experience in fighting, especially since his goal is to become a Titled Douluo. San is slightly saddened by that, then states Dugu still owes him two favors and that he’s already thought about what he wants them to be.
Scene break to Dugu chasing San through the forest yelling at him that he agreed that San could take some of the herbs from the basin as his second favor, not all of them! San comments that he left all the roots and seeds so all of the herbs should grow back within a couple of years, then stops and reminds Dugu that since he’ll be an advisor for Shrek he won’t need them for a while anyway. Dugu pauses mid attack and remembers agreeing to that (at first rejecting it because he didn’t want to be restricted, before San states that he could come and go as he pleased, and this way they could still hang out without creating problems). Dugu sighs and says he’ll keep his promise, and when San asks him if he’s still mad Dugu chops him on the head and tells him not to do it again, causing San to chuckle. San then states that Dugu is perfect for their school since it’s known to be the school for monsters, which gets him another light smack on the head. San and Dugu get to the Academy and see that it has been officially renamed Shrek, with Flender as the Dean. Xiaogang and the others teachers come out to meet them, with Xiaogang asking San if he’s okay, to which San says he was treated kindly, before stating Dugu has agreed to be an advisor, which surprises everyone. Xiaogang quietly tells Flender that while Dugu is arrogant, he always keeps his promises, and Flender then awkwardly invites Dugu in saying that they would be happy to have him, before leading him to find accommodations. Erlong asks San how he managed to convince Dugu to be an advisor and San laughs and says that maybe they are all connected by fate. Xiaogang chuckles saying that it is a good thing for the school to be connected to a Title Douluo. San then asks how his friends are and Xiaogang states that they are good and have been training these past 6 months too, with Mubai about to reach level 40 in a couple of days. San then asks to see them and Xiaogang escorts him, and as they walk San fills Xiaogang in with what actually happened with Dugu, and states that he did learn a couple of things about poison from him. Xiaogang is relieved San made it through okay, then asks about if he had time for cultivation since he might fall behind his friends if he didn’t. San then tells Xiaogang that he is level 37, which really surprises Xiaogang since San jumped 3 levels in 6 months. Xiaogang then says that the Tournament is in half a year and that with any luck San will be level 40 before then. Xiaogang leads San to a flower field, where Wu is cultivating. As soon as Wu sees San she runs over to him, jumping into his arms and yelling at him for leaving her, stating that next time he has to take her with him. San promises to do so and both he and Wu swear to never leave each other, even if they die. Scene break to Dugu wondering the Academy grounds, when he has a brief vision of Guan. He then states that he is not afraid of him anymore, and that when they meet again he will settle past debts. |

San meets up with everyone else, who are all really happy to see him, and Hongjun even asks if he brought gifts, to which he says yes and brings out the pouch Dugu gave him. He then brings out several herbs from the pouch; to Mubai he gives the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum, to Oscar the Eight Petal Immortal Orchid, to Hongjun the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower, and for Rongrong the Beautiful Silk Tulip. Xiaogang questions whether the herbs are safe because they came from Dugu’s place, and San says they’re fine and that he knows what each one does and chose each one for each person. Xiaogang says he’ll trust his judgement, but states that even though San has Dugu’s favor, to be careful around him. Wu asks San if Dugu is at the school and San reassures her and everyone that Dugu has promised not to hurt anyone from Shrek (something that doesn’t seem to reassure Wu because she looks edgy at the news Dugu is an advisor).
San then presents Zhuqing with the Yearning Heartbroken Red, telling her it’s a powerful herb, but can only be consumed if you master it, which is tricky. He then tells everyone the story behind the Heartbroken Red; how there was a man that loved and cared for the flowers in his garden so affectionately that the Heavenly Flower Immortal fell in love with him and descended from Heaven to marry him. But God had decreed that humans and immortals could not be together and forced the Flower Immortal back to Heaven, leaving the man completely distraught and leading him to neglect his garden, which began to suffer. Then one day an old man visited and informed the man that the man’s favorite flower, the white peony in his garden, was actually the incarnation of his wife and that if he let it die his wife would lose her divinity and come back (the old man then disappeared after saying that). This broke the man out of his trace, but even though killing the flower would bring her back he couldn’t bare to do it, instead dedicating the rest of his life to taking care of the flower and his garden, using his own tears to water the flower, and later dying near the flower, staining it’s petals with his hearts blood. San continues, telling Zhuqing to place a drop of blood on the Heartbroken Red and see if it accepts her as it’s master (that pretty much it will only accept someone that is completely loves their significate other and completely trusts that person with their heart). Zhuqing puts a drop of blood on it, but when the Heartbroken Red views her heart it finds that though she does love Mubai she isn’t 100% confident in his fidelity to her (knowing he has been with other women), which causes the Heartbroken Red to reject her. Zhuqing apologizes to San and Mubai cringes (no doubt knowing it is probably his fault). San then offers the Heartbroken Red to Xiaogang, hoping that his love with Erlong is strong enough to be accepted by the flower. Xiaogang states that if the flower does accept him he won’t eat it because it’s too precious, but when the flower looks into Xiaogang’s heart it finds that while Xiaogang does truly love Erlong, there is still a part of himself that feels guilty for loving his own cousin and can’t fully accept his feelings, which causes the flower to reject him as well. Xiaogang sighs and gives the flower back to San, depressed with the fact that he is still struggling with his feelings for Erlong, and while San is sadly watching his Master the flower slowly floats over to Wu, who catches it and while examining it cuts her finger on one of the petals. The flower peers into her heart and sees the truth about her, as well as her worry that someday she will be forcefully taken away from San, the man she loves with all her heart and who she knows loves her wholly as well. The flower then decides to accept her as its master and Wu asks San if the legend is true. San says he doesn’t know and that she should eat the flower as it will help her level up, but Wu states that she agrees with Xiaogang that the flower is too precious to be eaten, and that since San said that the flower will never wither once it finds its master she can keep it with her always. Later that day everyone is cultivating after eating the herbs (Zhuqing had gotten the Daffodil Jade Flesh Bone and Xiaogang had accepted the Nine Treasure Purple Zoysia) with Wu being the only one not doing so and is sitting by San as he cultivates after eating the Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew. Wu debates whether leaving is a good idea because she’s worried about Dugu being around, before remembering that she has her promise to stay by San’s side. Oscar finishes up first, celebrating that he has jumped 5 levels in one sitting, and is joined by Rongrong who is happy to have jumped 6 levels. While Rongrong is talking to Oscar and Wu she still has her Soul out, and Oscar notices that her Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda has undergone a Spirit Evolution into a Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda. Rongrong starts crying tears of joy and runs over to hug San (who had just finished his cultivation and had just stood up) giving him a kiss on the check (which freaks poor Oscar out, amusing Wu) while thanking him. San says of course, their teammates, before activating his Purple Demon Eyes, which have undergone an evolution thanks to the Autumn Dew. He notices all the life force around him, but when looking toward his friends he briefly sees a red aura around Wu before it disappears. Rongrong asks what that was (his eyes had glowed brightly for a minute) and San explains that was his Purple Demon Eyes and that he had just unlocked the Boundless Realm (which is really a thing of legends). San then thinks that the Boundless Realm can see through all disguises and wonders about who Wu really is. |

Zhuqing is the next to finish up, her level increasing by 7, followed by Hongjun then Mubai. As Mubai awakens he immediately hugs Zhuqing, telling her he’s never letting her go. Zhuqing leans into his embrace for a minute, before remembering he was a womanizer and pushing him away, telling him to leave the sweet talk for his lovers. Mubai then comments that he’s been as pure as San lately (causing San to blush) to which Zhuqing states “until you’re as innocent as Brother San, only then we’ll see” before walking away (to which San gets a good natured ribbing from Wu for). Mubai then thanks San, stating that he has now hit level 40 thanks to the herb, then asks jokingly if San can teach him to be pure and innocent, to which Wu states that he has no chance, causing the others to laugh. Xiaogang then completes his meditation, finally breaking through to level 30 after 40 years of trying. San congratulates him and remarks that he can start leveling up again, but Xiaogang points out that cultivation gets slower as you age and that he’s given up being a powerful Spirit Master himself, but wants San to do so for the both of them. He then turns to the group and tells them to get a little more cultivation in because in a few days they would go hunting for his Third Ring and Mubai’s Fourth Ring.
Scene jump to the kids walking through the forest when they are suddenly attacked by a caped man. The kids quickly all coordinate their attacks, working perfectly to pin the man and landing several hits, but when Mubai and Hongjun let off a combo move towards the man he calls out for them to stop, saying that he is Mr. Zhao. San then uses his vines to block the combo attack and Zhao reveals himself, stating that he wanted to test them and as one of their teachers he is very satisfy. The group is then approached by Xiaogang and Flender, with Flender complaining about loosing a bet with Xiaogang. Zhao complains about them betting on him and the kids all laugh, after which Flender tells San Dugu is looking for him. Flender takes San to Dugu’s quarters, where his is waiting with his granddaughter Yan, who complains about San being there and Dugu being an advisor to Shrek. Dugu then states that she is acting childish and that even though San is younger he acts more mature than her. Yan asks what so good about him, and that if she had another chance she could beat him, to which San states that she may have that chance in the Tournament. This gets Dugu’s attention and he states that while he doesn’t care about the others on her team that San needs to go easy on his Granddaughter if their teams do fight, which upsets Yan causing her to state that Dugu is siding with San against her. Dugu then asks her if she knows what level San is at now before stating that San is level 37, same as her, and that by the time of the Tournament he should hit 40. Dugu then states that if the two did fight, then he has little doubt that San would win. San then stands up and comments that they’ll find out in the ring, before giving Dugu the medicine for his granddaughter and telling him how/when to use it. As San goes to leave Dugu states that he will be leaving to complete some unfinished business and that hopefully he’ll be back before the Tournament, causing San to become slightly depressed before wishing him luck and to be safe. Scene break to outside the Academy, where Xiaogang tells San that he, Erlong, Flender, and Mubai are going to hunt for his and Mubai’s Rings, and that in the meantime he wants San to attend the Academy classes for a little while. Rongrong then states that she’s going to use that time to visit her Clan, before jokingly stating that she’s going to entrust Wu to him for that time, causing San and Wu to blush. As the teachers and Mubai are walking away Oscar gets hit in the face with a piece of paper, which has some horrible designs for a school uniform on it. They then hear Flender complaining that he has lost his uniform design rough draft, but that it is okay because he has them memorized, which horrifies the kids, as the color and designs are embarrassing and they are worried about being mocked despite their skills. San, Wu, Zhuqing, Hongjun, and Oscar then head to class, which is the advanced one (they are all over level 30) with about 30 students (the others being all older than them). Wu and San enter the classroom and sit together, whispering and laughing together, which gets the attention of Tai Long, who appears to have a crush on Wu and is mad about San acting so friendly with her. |

Long approaches San and Wu, and when San asks him if he needs anything Long states that in the classroom no guys are allowed to sit next to Wu. Wu gets offended and states she says San can sit next to her, causing Long to backtrack and state it is guy business. Long then states that as the Class Chief what he says goes and San has 2 options; beat him in a fight or sit somewhere else. San asks if he wants to duke it out right there and now, to which Long states that he hardly needs a proper stage to beat San (which causes San’s friends to snicker knowing Long just got in way over his head). San accepts the challenge and his friends all take a seat to watch the show. San then reveals himself to be level 37, which causing Long to briefly hesitate, before he calls his Soul, which is a level 37 Vigorous Orangutan. Long goes on the offensive, with San dodging or blocking all of his attacks, before San launches his Vine attack which binds Long completely. San then walks back to Wu leaving Long bound on the floor as their teacher enters, which is Shao Xin (one of the teachers that came with them from Shrek) who immediately lectures San about bullying other students on his first day. San apologizes and releases Long, who tells Shao Xin that the fight had been his idea, before challenging San to another fight using only physical strength. San accepts but Shao Xin tells them to settle it after class. As they sit down for the lesson Wu tells San that Long is always pestering her and San finds that he actually feels bothered over other guys approaching Wu.
After class Long leads San and Wu into the forest for their duel. They fight, with San making expert use of Ghostly Trace and Tang Clan Martial Arts (which includes dislocation). San constantly beats Long back over and over again, before Long finally collapses after a while, leading to Wu commenting on his tenaciousness. Wu then grabs Sans arm and drags him away to go get food in the city. While wondering the city Wu points out an auction house and the two decide to go take a look after they eat. The two grab food from a food vendor and have another cute moment with San reiterating how precious Wu is to him. After they are done they head over to the auction house, but on the way San notices something is wrong and the two find some guards dead in an alley, the guards bearing the crest of the auction house. San and Wu wonder what item was so important that the guards were killed over it. The two then approached the Auction house doors, but are stopped when the guards ask for a Bidding Qualification Certificate. They don’t have one and are told to get one they need at least 10,000 gold coins. San asks if there is another way to get one and the lady he’s talking to tells them that if they are selling they can get one, but that any item they sell has to pass an appraisal and have a value of at least 1000 gold. San then brings out one of his Hidden Weapons stating that he’ll sell it then, to which the woman leads them inside into a side room where a man is. San shows the man the Hidden Weapon, and when the man asks him what it is San states that it is called Powder Shooting Shadow and that it is a poisonous weapon. San then asks if there is a proper place he where can demonstrate. |

The Appraiser rises a steel plated wall in the back of the room, but San states that the wall won’t withstand the attack. The Appraiser states not to worry are the wall is very sturdy and San chuckles before shooting the Shadow, whose darts fly straight through the steel wall and into the wall behind it, cracking the stone. San thinks that though its piercing power isn’t as strong as the Crossbow it’s still strong enough to impress a Spirit Master, and that it’s poison can knock out any Spirit Master around level 30. The Appraiser states that the weapon is impressive and that he would appraise it at 1,000 gold or higher. San gives the Shadow to the Appraiser and the woman who is escorting them leads them out of the room and toward the auction hall. On the way they are given masks to wear in the hall for their safety.
In the hall bids are going for tens of thousands. Wu tries to go down to the lower level to get a closer look but is stopped by one of the attendants as the lower seating area is for the very rich. Wu gets offended and pulls San away, where they near a man who comments not to be mad at the attendants as they have to do their jobs and do not know anything else. Wu asks what he means and the man (who is actually Ning Fengzhi but San and Wu don’t know that) states that all the attendants were bought and raised in the auction house, leading San to state that slavery is banned in the two empires, to which Fengzhi states that nothing can’t be sold in the auction houses. Wu asks how much they are and Fengzhi asks if she wants to buy them to free them, before stating that that would lead to tragedy as none of them have any survival skills or common sense, knowing only the auction house and its rules. Fengzhi then asks if they are buying anything (and comments on their young age too) and Wu states that they are selling. The auctioneer then gets everyone’s attention stating that the next item is rare before bringing out a covered cage. He unveils that cage, which contains a pretty teenage girl with cat ears and tail. Wu immediately gets angry and goes to confront the auctioneer, but is stopped by San, who states while trembling in anger that they can’t save everyone. Fengzhi, seeing San’s and Wu’s anger, smiles and decides to bet on the cat girl, stating that since the cat girl still has spirit (she is practically spitting in anger at the auctioneer) he’ll save her. The bidding continues to get higher until a man in the red (lowest) section bids, which seems to deter the other bidders, but doesn’t seem to phase Fengzhi, who has Chen Xin (who is with his as his guard and is the one raising his card for the bids) bid higher. The man in the red sections pulls off his mask and demands to know who is betting against him, and San recognizes him as Xue Xing, the Emperor’s younger brother. Fengzhi fearlessly steps forward and is recognized by Xing and everybody else, and asks for the auctioneer to continue, which he does, but with no one else betting more the cat girl is sold to Fengzhi for 180,000 gold. Before the cat girl’s cage is covered up again, Wu whispers something, which the cat girl hears and looks up at Wu before nodding. Wu then thanks Fengzhi, who chuckles and states it was a worthwhile trip. Scene break to the Academy entrance with Long trying to convince an older man, his father Tai Nuo, not to do something, to which Nuo states that he won’t tolerate his son being beaten so badly. Long points out that he was the one to pick the fight, which doesn’t seem to help as Nuo still wants to confront San. Back at the auction hall the auctioneer brings out San’s Shadow Hidden Weapon, which Wu excitedly points out getting the attention of Fengzhi and Xin. Fengzhi decides to bid 10,000 for it, causing Wu to ask if he made a mistake, to which Fengzhi comments he doesn’t want them to take a loss on it (no one else seemed sure enough to bid on it). San then states he doesn’t want Fengzhi to take a loss either and gives him one of his Silent Sleeve Darts. Fengzhi notices the Tang Sect crest on it and asks about it since he’s never heard of that ‘Clan’, to which Wu states that is because San is technically the only member. Fengzhi asks San if he made both of the weapons and San says yes, to which Fengzhi asks if he can commission more off of him. San agrees and promises to meet up with him later as they have other things they have to do today (school) and Fengzhi agrees. Back at the Academy as Wu and San are approaching the gate they are intercepted by Nuo and a reluctant Long. Nuo then attacks them and San grabs Wu and jumps out of the way. Wu gets mad at Long and yells at him asking if since he brought his father into this if his grandfather is next. Long grimaces and states that it would be bad if his grandfather showed up before telling Wu that he wasn’t at fault and that his dad was just overacting to his injuries. Nuo then continues attacking San, who is having a hard time in a purely physical fight with someone 20 levels above him (though Nuo hasn’t really been able to land a hit either). San then gets some distance between them and summons his Blue Silver Grass Soul, with Nuo doing the same with his Vigorous Orangutan Soul. |

Nuo charges San and attacks while San has to go on the defensive. Nuo constantly increases the power of his attacks with each missed hit, until about his fourth Ring where San leaps into the air and hits Nuo using his Crossbow, distracting him so that San can get behind his and poison him using the Spider Legs. Long jumps in when his father goes down, but San convinces him to stand down so that he can remove the poison before it kills him. After Long helps Nuo up, who will be weak for a couple of days, San tells them to clean up the mess their attacks made before leaving with Wu.
At the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan Rongrong is impatiently waiting with her Grandpa Bone (Gu Rong) for her father, Ning Fengzhi, to get back home. Fengzhi gets back with Chen Xin and happily greets her, to which she playfully pouts and teases him about not misses her that much before hugging Xin, who says he missed her a lot. This briefly sparks a banter between Rong and Xin on who missed Rongrong the most. Back with San he’s made it to his room, before coughing up a little blood caused by fighting someone 21 levels above him. He then thinks that he did learn something useful in that fight though; his Spider Legs have the skill Devour, which allows him to absorb his opponents Spirit Power. Wu, who comes up behind him, asks if he is okay, and he turns and says he’s fine, but Wu noticed the little bit of blood on the side of his mouth. She then leads him to his bed to sit down, then jokes that since San beat Long’s dad maybe his Grandfather will come next, causing the two to laugh, shortly after which San breaks out in a coughing fit making Wu worry and wonder aloud where Oscar (San’s roommate) is. San then asks her to leave because he’s going to meditate, but she decides to stay and watch over him. With Rongrong she’s still teasing her ‘Grandpa’s’ about proving who missed her the most, much to Fengzhi’s bemused exasperation. Fengzhi then states that he missed her too and has a gift for her and goes to hug her, but she quickly dances away from him playfully, surprising Fengzhi, Xin, and Rong with her speed. They then ask her what level she is now, to which she playfully answers that she’s not that talented since she has only risen 10 levels (37), which astounds the three that she leveled up that quickly in the time she was gone. She then states that she had worked hard, but that it was mostly because of the Beautiful Silk Tulip San gave her, which rose her 6 levels in one day. This further astounds the men, but none of them have heard of the Tulip and worry that it might have hurt Rongrong in exchange for rising her level, to which Rongrong assures them that “Brother” San assured her it was a sacred grass, then summons out her Soul, the now Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda, completely astonishing the men. With Long and Nuo that two are making it back home with Nuo commenting that he knows why Long lost to San now, before the two wonder if San is from one of the Seven Clans (the most powerful Clans on the Douluo Continent). Nuo then states that he’ll ask his father about it, to which Long freaks out saying that his Grandfather might get angered at them losing and go to the Academy himself. At the 7 Treasure Clan Fengzhi reflects how the 7 Treasure Soul can only hold 7 Rings (one for each level) and how that has slightly handicapped their Clan for years (making getting level 80 and above pointless). Fengzhi then asks who Brother San is, to which Rongrong deflects asking where her gift is. Fengzhi then goes to give her the Hidden Weapons he bought off of San at the auction house. Rongrong immediately recognizes them and calls them by name, then asks Fengzhi why he had some of Brother San’s Hidden Weapons (confirming to Fengzhi that the boy he met was San), before asking Fengzhi if the Clan can use San’s Hidden Weapons to fight. Fengzhi asks what kind of genius San is and Rongrong states he is just a classmate, which suddenly reminds her of another of her classmates, Oscar, which causes her to blush, giving the three men the wrong impression that she likes San. |

Rongrong takes the three men outside to demonstrate how to use the Hidden Weapons, where she asks Xin to help her demonstrate. He agrees and blocks the attacks of the Sleeve Dart and Crossbow, stating that they could easily take down a level 40 or lower. Rongrong then gets close and surprise attacks him with a bolt from the Tense Back Flower Adornment Crossbow on her back, which Xin catches with his teeth, but a drop of the Datura Snake venom on it gets into his mouth. He immediately starts cultivating to head off the venom and Rongrong, who honestly thought he could block it, gets on her knees at her father’s shout and begs Xin to forgive her. Xin forces the venom into his mouth and spits it out, before telling Rongrong that there is nothing to forgive, then stating to Fengzhi that the Hidden Weapons are strong and to see if it is possible to get San to join their Clan. Fengzhi then tells a still apologetic Rongrong that he’s going with her to the Academy tomorrow to meet with San.
The next morning San wakes up mostly healed (but eats a Sausage from Oscar anyway) and goes up to the Academy roof to meditate and explore the Boundless Realm sight of his Purple Demon Eyes a little. A little while later Wu calls him down to eat. The two grab Oscar (who was also meditating) and head to the cafeteria, where everyone starts ogling San since he beat a Spirit King (51-60). Oscar comments on the girls checking out San and San comments that Oscar should be more sincere, especially towards Rongrong who San has noticed looking at Oscar differently then everyone else. A student then runs up to San saying that Long is back, but with both his father and grandfather this time. San tells Wu to go look for Zhao (Flender, Xiaogang, and Erlong, and Mubai are still in the forest hunting for Spirit Rings) and he and Oscar head outside. Outside the Academy gate Long is begging his grandfather to just leave, to which his grandfather tells him to be quiet. San and Oscar approach and that man introduces himself as Tai Tan, before stating he won’t bully San but wants to make a bet with him. In the time of one insense if San can withstand his Soul Pressure (like with what Zhi Lin did back at the Imperial Academy) then he’ll make his son and grandson kowtow and apologize, but if San loses he has to join Tan’s Clan, the One Strength Clan . Oscar points out that isn’t fair, before changing the bet to if Tan loses he has to join San’s Clan, which is the (not yet really established) Tang Clan, which Tan naturally doesn’t recognize the name of, but agrees to the terms (with his son and grandson being roped in as well). San takes Tan to a little stone arena in the school yard and they begin. Tan releases the first wave of Soul Pressure, which San likens to a flood in comparison to the river that was Zhi Lin’s Soul pressure, deducing that Tan is no doubt a higher level. Tan hits San with a Power wave that manifests as a giant hand pressing down on him and San summons his vines to try and act like a barrier. Wu shows up with Zhao, who states that San doesn’t really have a chance because Tan is over level 80 and is someone who focuses purely on the Strength aspect of his Soul. San summons out his Soul Bone, which surprises Tan but doesn’t help San all that much under the intense pressure. San then starts struggling to keep his Hammer (which is trying to manifest under the pressure) hidden, remembering the words from his father to show it to no one. |

New opening song, going from “Jam Hsiao - The Land Of Warriors” to “Oner – Do Not Give Up”
San, not wanting to admit defeat, manifests his Hammer, which Tan appears to recognize. Before either of them can do anything though San is hit by the light of the 7 Treasure Soul and Tan’s Soul Pressure is interrupted by black portals created by Rong, who steps through one with Fengzhi (the one who used 7 Treasure on San) and Rongrong. Tan greets Rong and Fengzhi and Rong tells him to call the bet off, which Tan immediately agrees to, surprising everyone (he’s usually incredibly stubborn). Rong points out how unusual his agreement was and Tan points out San’s Hammer, saying he would do the same. San, who had started mediating since the Pressure was lifted, notices the Light of the 7 Treasure is helping him heal quickly (and opened up his eight Median along with the Pressure) and comes out of his trance, dismissing the Hammer and notices Fengzhi, who he greets. Rongrong asks is they know each other and San quickly puts two and two together (they never actually introduced themselves to each other) and greets Fengzhi by name (figuring that he was Rongrong’s father). Tan then cuts in asking if San’s father is Tang Hao and San asks how he knew that. Tan then drops to one knee and calls San Young Master, confusing San, and Zhao interrupts welcoming everyone to Shrek Academy. Tan then points out that he has been looking for Zhao for a while (Zhao had run afoul a couple of Tan’s disciples and Tan had been looking for payback ever since), then asks to speak with San privately and that he will settle things with him later, which Zhao resignedly agrees to. San meets with Tan and his two descendants in a private room and Tan immediately asks for forgiveness for hurting San. San, still confused, says he’s just a civilian, and Tan points out that Hao is his Master and that San is his son and has the Clear Sky Hammer, which makes him his Young Master. San, who has never heard the name of his Hammer before, asks about it and Tan confirms that it is the unique Soul from the Clear Sky Clan. San wonders why both his father and Master wanted him to hide his Hammer, before asking Tan about his father, surprising Tan that San really doesn’t know anything. Tan then asks about San’s childhood and San explains that his father was just a blacksmith that drank a lot, which depresses Tan. San then remembers the note Hao had left him all those years ago and brings it out for Tan to read. Tan shakily reads it, before becoming saddened that Hao calls himself a useless man when to him Hao was a great man. San asks why he grew up in his village instead of with his Clan and asks what happened. Tan states that he is unsure but that if nothing else San needs to know that Hao is a great man. Tan then states that the One Strength Clan used to be under the Clear Sky Clan, but that they separated from the Clear Sky Clan when Hao did, choosing to follow and serve him, and that now that San is there the One Strength Clan will be under his command. San asks him to stop being so formal, then asks him to please keep his background a secret before saying that he needs to meet Fengzhi now. Tan warns him to be careful around Fengzhi because Hao had always called him an ambitious man and San agrees to be. San then meets up with Fengzhi, Rong, and Rongrong in another private room, greeting them and apologizing for keeping them waiting. Fengzhi waves it off and asks if he can call San by his name, to which San says of course, he is Rongrong’s father. Fengzhi states that he was impressed with San from the auction house and from what he heard about him from Rongrong, but that he had not expected San to be the son of his friend. San asks if Fengzhi knew his father and Fengzhi points out that Hao had been the youngest Titled Douluo, so there are not many people who haven’t at least heard of his father. Fengzhi that asks if San knew where he was and San states that his father disappeared 8 years ago, then asks is maybe Hao is with the Clear Sky Clan. Fengzhi says no probably not and San asks why not, to which Fengzhi responds that he doesn’t really know the reason but that it is something San should ask Hao about. Fengzhi then states that he had originally came to asks San to join his Clan, but that since San is the son of his friend that’s impossible now, but that he is still interested in San’s Hidden Weapons. Fengzhi asks if San is willing to sell the method of making the Weapons to him, and San responds no, but that he can sell the Weapons themselves to him. Fengzhi asks why and San states that he had to put a lot of time into learning how to make them and that it would take years to teach a blacksmith how to make and assemble them, which he doesn’t have to waste. Fengzhi says that is reasonable and San asks which Hidden Weapons Fengzhi is interested in, to which Fengzhi states he would like 500 sets of the weapons that Rongrong has at 10,00 gold per set. San agrees but states that the sets will not include the Flying God Claw, which takes precious materials to make. Fengzhi then rewards San with 1 million gold in thanks for giving Rongrong the Tulip, then asks if San has anymore to which San states that the Tulip is actually really rare. San then gives Fengzhi the blueprints for making the parts for the Weapons, stating that he’ll assemble them when they get the parts to him. Rong backhandedly comments that San is a good businessman to get paid for only assembly. |

San states that if Rong finds the price unreasonable they can lower it, but Fengzhi states there is no need and gives San a prepayment of 50,000 gold before saying goodbye to him and Rongrong. Outside Rong asks Fengzhi if he thinks San really is Hao’s son and Fengzhi states he is sure of it. Rong then states that the Clear Sky Clan is above theirs and with San being already gifted it was only a matter of time before he became a major threat. Fengzhi tells him to dismiss that thought and that the Upper 3 Clans (Clear Sky, 7 Treasure, and Tyrant Dragon) are friendly with each other. Rong still points out that when San becomes a Titled Douluo it might be bad for their Clan, but Fengzhi states that things have really been too quiet in the past couple decades and that he feels that something big is coming, and that all the Clans may need to be united soon.
Back with San he and Rongrong enter his room where Wu, Zhuqing, Hongjun, and Oscar are waiting, curious about what was going on. Rongrong tells them that her father just purchased 500 Hidden Weapon sets, leading to Oscar and Hongjun playfully trying to rob him (and the girls getting the card). Outside Oscar pulls Rongrong back, leading to a cute scene of him admitting his feelings to her (following San’s advice about being sincere) and confirming her feelings for him, before leaving while shouting that he’ll work hard and get her father’s approval. After a minute Rongrong is approached by her father and Rong, who are being escorted out by Zhao. Rongrong asks her father if he is leaving, which he says yes but that he is proud of her, both for becoming stronger and growing as a person. They then say their goodbyes and the two men leave. Rongrong then thinks she needs to clarify things with Oscar about the rules of her Clan before going after him and finds him in the dining hall working on cultivating his Sausages. Rongrong then thinks that if she tells him then he might give up on her and leaves deciding to tell him later. The next morning Mubai, who has finally returned, walks into the dorm where the kids are gathered (with San kicking Oscar’s butt at chess) and promptly hugs San telling him thank you. Oscar teasing Mubai about hugging San before Zhuqing (to the amusement of everyone) and Mubai states he did so because directly after getting his Ring his level jumped to 43 thanks to the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum San had given him. He then states that they all should not waste San’s gifts, that everyone should be at least level 40 before the Tournament, and that their ultimate goal is to be the Champions. Xiaogang, who had been waiting outside the door, then tells San to follow him, and after they leave Wu decides to follow and eavesdrop. San immediately asks Xiaogang if he knew about his background, and Xiaogang states that yes, he had known for a while. He states that he wasn’t sure at first until Hao came to see him and gave him his badge (the one from Martial Hall that has all 6 symbols lit) before entrusting San to him and leaving. Xiaogang states he had recognized Hao since he had been his idol and tells San he was known as the Youngest Titled Douluo Hao Tian and that Hao and his brother had been infamous for being the strongest Douluo in the Heaven Dou Empire. Xiaogang then states that Hao had fought and won against Yue Guan and Gui Mei of Martial Hall (which is why all 6 symbols of his badge are lit up) and when San asks why Xiaogang states he doesn’t know and that it is between Hao and Martial Hall. San then gets depressed that his father didn’t come see him when he saw Xiaogang, which Xiaogang notices and tells San that he believes that Hao has actually been watching over San this whole time, pointing out that Flender had told him about Zhao being beaten by Hao after Zhao had hurt San in his test (making San slightly happy, especially with the knowledge that Hao had defended his honor like Tan had defended Long’s). Xiaogang states that Hao is probably avoiding meeting San face to face because he either believes it will set back San’s training, or he knows he won’t be able to leave San again and knows he still has unfinished business he needs to complete. Xiaogang states that San should focus on getting stronger so that one day he can help his dad with his unfinished business. San then says he has two questions; the first being is Xiaogang knows who his mother is (he doesn’t) and the second being about not using his Hammer. |

061 |
San asks if Xiaogang and his father wanted to hide the fact San was from the Clear Sky Clan. Xiaogang says possibly, but mainly it was that in the case of Twin Martial Souls you need to train one up to a high level before you can train the other, and that the Xiaogang and his dad want San to train the Blue Silver Grass up first so that when he does put Rings on the Hammer he’ll be at a high level and they can all be 10,000 year Rings or higher. Xiaogang then continues saying that for Twin Martial Souls, if he tries to put Rings on them at the same time they’ll clash and kill him. San asks if Xiaogang has focused on training his body incase that does happen later, and Xiaogang says yes, but that he also wants San to gain more Soul Bones so that in the event the Martial Souls do clash for any reason the Soul Bones will help absorb the energy so it won’t kill him. Xiaogang then asks if San understands his reasoning for his actions and San says yes. Xiaogang pauses then tells San that after the Tournament he and Flender have agreed to graduate the 7 Shrek Devils, surprising San since they are all young, but Xiaogang points out that some graduate at level 30 and that is with honors, and that the true challenge for them is exploring the world outside of school. Xiaogang concludes with saying that for training the kids are mostly on their own now for the next 6 months, and that he hopes they can all hit 40 in that time. San mentions he’s worried about Wu not being able to catch up because she didn’t eat the Heartbroken Red (which Wu overhears).
Time jump almost six months later with Wu and San walking through the gardens at night, Wu commenting that everyone but her had reached level 40 and that they are going to hunt Spirit Beasts tomorrow. Wu asks San if he’s disappointed that she isn’t level 40 yet and San comments that if she eats the Heartbroken Red she would be the strongest out of all of them. Wu then challenges San to a fight stating she can prove that she’s strong already and San accepts. They spar for a little, but when Wu almost uses Waist Bow on San he manages to stop her with his Vines, only for Wu to use her braid to escape the vines, which also unravels her braid. She then asks if San thinks she’s strong, which he says yes while smiling. Wu then shyly asks San if he can brush her hair since it is a mess now, he bemusedly agrees, and she hands him a comb which is something her mother made for her before she died. After a moment of silence San approaches Wu and starts combing her hair, and Wu has a flashback to her mother telling her that in the future if she finds someone that she loves to ask him to comb her hair with that comb, and that a woman’s hair can only be combed by the most important man in her life. Back in the present Wu silently tears up and thinks that she has found him. The next day the group are all in front of the Academy getting ready to leave and Rongrong asks Wu why her braid is crooked, causing San to blush and the Oscar and Hongjun to jump to conclusions, causing the others to snicker and Wu to blush. Flender then clears his throat and tells the kids that they are going to Sunset Forest and that the kids have to work together to get their Rings with little help from the teachers. That night they have made camp (no luck on Spirit Beasts so far) and Flender declares that the kids are in charge of the night shifts. Xiaogang reminds San to be careful and Erlong checks the tents, realizing that the kids all share one and the adults all share one (meaning that she’s in the same tent as Xiaogang, who is still acting awkward around her), something that Xiaogang has realized too and is trying to delay sleeping (especially since Flender made sure Erlong and Xiaogang were sleeping right next to each other). The kids decide to do girls on one side and guys on the other, with San and Wu sleeping next to each other in the middle (which Rongrong teases Wu about). Outside Mubai has first watch and convinces Xiaogang to go rest, which he reluctantly agrees to and heads to the teacher’s tent. After a little while Mubai suddenly yells from outside for everyone to get up and San exits the tent to see Mubai being chased by a scorpion shooting fire from its tail. |

In the teachers tent Erlong is hugging Xiaogang from behind (head out of gutters people everyone is still dressed) when Mubai’s call jolts everyone, making Erlong jump up pissed off and shoot out of the tent (leaving a flustered Flender and Zhao who saw their positions before Erlong got up, and an unusually still Xiaogang). Mubai almost gets hit by the fire midair but San uses his vines to pull Mubai to safety. Mubai gets ready to attack stating that it is a 4,000 year old Spirit Beast at the least, when Erlong shoots by him yelling about how the Beast dares to interrupt her and that she’ll kill it. The kids then watch in horrified fascination as she beats it into submission using overpowered methods, and San is able to conclude when looking at the blushing Xiaogang why she is upset. Xiaogang briefly flashes back to entering the tent, shakily laying down next to Erlong with his back to her and wondering if God is punishing him (he loves the woman but feels he can’t be with her, yet she’s so near) before Erlong moves closer and hugs him from behind, asking if it is really so painful to be near her. Xiaogang is about to take her hand in his and answer when they are interrupted. During the beat down Hongjun states that Erlong is now his idol and Mubai wonders aloud if female tigers or dragons (Erlong has a Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Soul) are fiercer, causing Zhuqing to stomp on his foot (repeatedly). Erlong then deposits the Scorpion, a Giant Earth King, at the kids feet and tell Hongjun to kill it and absorb its Ring since his Martial Soul is fire based. Erlong stomps back to the tent, Flender and Zhao decide to take watch, Xiaogang goes to sit against the nearest tree, and the kids, minus San (who decides to hang with Xiaogang outside for the rest of the night), head back to their tent to sleep.
The next morning Hongjun absorbs the Ring and trains it a little and Erlong is in a really bad mood. After breakfast the group heads out again, with Hongjun commenting that it was easier than normal to absorb the Ring, to which San responds that that is probably because after the beat down the Earth King had completely surrendered and gave up its Ring willingly to end it. San continues that there are two scenarios that are best and make it easiest to absorb a Soul Ring; 1 the Beast has a huge grudge over being killed or 2, the Beast surrenders its’ Ring willingly, both which usually results in a Soul Bone as well. Rongrong then asks if that means they wouldn’t suffer a backlash if a 10,000 Sprit Beast willingly surrendered its Ring, but Mubai rebuffs that by asking if there is a Beast that would be willing to do that, and that it is impossible, to which Wu thinks that under the right circumstance miracles can happen, while looking at San. Hongjun asks San why there was no Soul Bone then and San says its probably because Erlong wasn’t the one to kill it, then continues stating the having Beasts die with a huge Grudge against you is hard too because it usually means you had to take them down by yourself (so the grudge isn’t split with other people) and Spirit Beasts are hard enough to take with a team (explaining the Spider Leg Soul Bone San has since he fought and killed the Man Faced Spider by himself). San then stops sensing something when suddenly the entire area around them is covered in pink miasma. San gives everyone a pill to help with poisons since miasmas tend to be poisonous and Flender calls for everyone to stick together. Flender and Erlong try to blow away the Miasma with Power but it comes immediately back, so San brings out a Aromatic Silk Beauty which can detoxify it’s surroundings (the same one he used to get passed Dugu’s first test in the basin). San then scans their surroundings using Purple Demon Eyes and find that they are surrounded by at least a thousand Pink Maidens, scorpion type Spirit Beats which travel in pacts and are the offspring of the Pink Queen, who rules the pack. |

Xiaogang states that the miasma is a stimulant that if you inhale too much of it, it can kill you, and wonders aloud why they seem to be ambushing them when Pink Maidens usually don’t attack humans. San then asks if it was possible that the Earth King they killed last night was the Pink Queen’s mate, to which Flender jokes to Erlong that she tormented the Queen’s husband and now the Queen wants revenge. Xiaogang asks for San’s thoughts since he knows the most about poisons and San says they should just fly away using Oscar’s Mushroom Sausages. They try to but the pack keeps up with them on the ground. Erlong gets fed up and starts attacking the Maidens to bring out the Queen, which works, and San binds it with his third Ring while Hongjun attacks with his new fourth Ring, Phoenix Strike (which creates a column of rising fire that he can explode by passing through). Xiaogang then calls for Oscar to quickly kill it and get its’ Ring, which he does, causing the Maidens to all scatter. Rongrong asks Xiaogang why he had Oscar absorb the Ring and Xiaogang pretty much states that it will allow for Oscar to become more well rounded if he gets an ability similar to the Queen’s miasma. Flender asks Xiaogang what he thought of Hongjun’s new attack and Xiaogang says it was strong, making Hongjun the strongest offensive member on the kids team (even beating Mubai) but that it has a couple weaknesses; it takes too much Soul Power and it requires the opponent to stay in place, making it easy to dodge unless he has someone to help restrict his opponent first. Flender then asks when San can train his Second Soul and Xiaogang states not until he is at least level 80, then says that after the preliminaries of the Tournament he needs to visit Martial Hall to see ‘her’, which leads to Flender commenting that that might upset Erlong. Xiaogang then states that he needs to see ‘her’ for San’s sake, making Flender grimace and agree. After a while Oscar absorbs the Ring and Mubai asks him what his ability is. Oscar responds that his Fourth Ability is Stimulus, which allows the consumer to get a 10% stat boost for 5 minutes on all stats.
Two days later Flender calls for a break, then states while there are plenty of Spirit Beasts in the forest very few of them are very strong. San then states he has an idea but it is risky. He pulls out the Aromatic Silk Beauty he had used before and states that it has a second effect of drawing strong Spirit Beasts to them, but that they will all be strong and in large numbers. Xiaogang then asks if San remembers where Dugu’s base was, and San concludes that Xiaogang wants to use Dugu’s poison barrier as a shield. They go to the outside of the basin near the barrier and San brings out the Silk Beauty and drops a poison on it that makes it only attract Beasts 2,000 or older. A tiger type Spirit Beast is the first to approach and everyone summons out their Souls. San manages to restrain it, but it breaks out of his vines and goes to attack Hongjun and Oscar. |

San uses his vines to pull the boys out of the way of the Tiger, which is a Phantom Tiger. The Tiger then uses Doppelganger to create a double and attacks the group. Rongrong uses her Soul to boost the group and they all attack the Tiger and it’s doubles. After a while San uses Purple Demon Eyes to dispel the copies, leaving the original that attacks Zhuqing. She does pretty good for herself for a bit, then Mubai steps in and uses his Fourth Ring White Tiger Meteor Shower to help weaken it. While they were fighting the Tiger other strong Spirit Beasts have gathered drawn to the flower, leading to the teachers playing defense. The Tiger continues to target Zhuqing, and Mubai, Wu, and Hongjun combo attack it to weaken it further, and Zhuqing then uses her Third Ring to bring it down. Xiaogang that tells San to put the flower away because they are starting to get overrun. Rongrong then passes out with Oscar catching her and Xiaogang states that it’s the first time she has supported several Spirit Masters much stronger than her at once (Flender, Erlong, and Zhao) so its normal she would be exhausted. Flender then calls for Xiaogang and the kids to retreat behind Dugu’s barrier, with the teachers following after.
Inside Flender comments that San’s herb sure is affective as there are now several high level Beasts outside Dugu’s barrier. Zhuqing is absorbing the Ring of the Phantom Tiger, which Xiaogang states is perfect for her. San then states that with all the Beasts outside the barrier they can use the Flying God Claw to drag in the ones they want, which they give to the teachers. Flender wonders if San planned it that way from the beginning. He then asks San which one he wants and he says to get Rongrong’s (who has regained consciousness) first. Flender asks Xiaogang what would be good for Rongrong’s Fourth Ring and Xiaogang states since Rongrong’s 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Rings focus on Speed, Strength, and Soul Power, her 4th should focus on Defense. He then states that the 4,000 Unicorn Armoured Beast would work nicely. Flender, Erlong, and Zhao then hook the Armoured Beast with the God Claws and drag it through the barrier where Erlong beats it into submission before calling Rongrong over. Xiaogang then asks San if he’s picked the one he wants and San points out the Pit Demon Spider, which causes Xiaogang to ask if San is okay because the Pit Demon Spider is over 10,000 years. San states yes and that he still wants the Spider, even when Xiaogang tries to argue him down to a 6,000 year Man Faced Spider. San insist he is confident he can absorb the Ring, stating that the herbs he has consumed have strengthened him and he plans on using a resource in Dugu’s base (the Ying Yang Well) to help as well. Wu then tries to stop him, stating that 10,000 Soul Rings are different then younger ones because they can cause Soul Shock. Xiaogang asks what Soul Shock is and Wu tells him it is a phenomena where 10,000 year and up Spirit Beasts produce special energy before their souls completely disappears that can destroy a person’s mind, leaving practically a new born mentality behind. San tells Wu that he knows he can avoid the Soul Shock thanks to his Purple Demon Eyes and to trust him as he knows he has to stay safe to keep her safe. Wu reluctantly agrees but states that he has to remember that if he dies, she will follow him. |

San (and everyone else) is shocked by Wu’s statement but San nods and asks Flender and Zhao to help him get the Pit Spider. Flender agrees after getting confirmation from San one more time, before he and Zhao launch the Crossbows at the Spider, who surprisingly uses a web to block the attack before attempting to run away. Flender summons his Soul and goes after it on a merry chase with it managing to dodge all of Flender’s attacks. San joins him in the chase, using himself to bait the Spider and restrain it long enough for Flender to land some solid hits. Afterwards Flender picks it up with his claws and he and San head back to the others.
Meanwhile, the 6,000 Man Faced Spider that San has passed over starts attacking Wu and Xiaogang (who had left the barrier) and the two with Hongjun are struggling against it. San arrives just as the Spider manages to get a hit on Wu, knocking her into the air and aiming to pierce her through with one of its legs. San tries to pull her away with his vines, but is too far and the Spider manages to stab her in the shoulder with its leg, poisoning her. This pisses Erlong off, who summons her Soul and attacks the Spider, grounding it and setting it on fire. San then approaches the Spider with his Soul Bone active and uses the Spider legs to pierce the Spider, Devouring it’s Power. Xiaogang states that San will be fine and everyone runs over to Wu, with Erlong picking her up and holding her in her lap. Flender checks on her using Power before using a sequence of jabs on her back that causes her to spit out the venom in her. Wu then states that she was lucky because the Heartbroken Red had absorbed most of the hit and poison, saving her, and Xiaogang comments that it is a tough plant because it appears undamaged. Erlong then calls out to San that Wu is okay, before reassuring Wu that nothing else will get to her because she is there. Wu then thinks that Erlong makes her feel warm and reminds her of her mother. Erlong then asks Wu if she is willing to be her disciple, and Wu agrees stating that honestly Erlong was like a mother to her, surprising Erlong. Wu then states that her mother passed away a long time ago but Erlong reminds her of her. Erlong then states that she doesn’t have any children and probably won’t have any (causing Xiaogang to look away) before asking Wu if she wanted her to adopt her and if Wu wanted to call her mom, to which Wu tearfully agrees to, causing them both to tear up and hug each other. Xiaogang smiles and Flender tears up as well before congratulating Erlong, who happily states that she has a daughter now while stroking Wu’s hair. Xiaogang shakily reaches out toward Erlong and Wu while the others are watching the later two, happy that Erlong now has a child that can take away her loneliness (which he blames himself for since he is the only one Erlong would be with and therefore does not have any children). San finishes up with killing the Spider and runs over to Wu, who hugs him happily. Erlong then stands up, saying that she can see San is loyal to Wu, but if he ever hurts her then Erlong will destroy him like she did the Earth King. San then swears to God then and there that he will never let Wu down, before giving her an herb leaf to help with any poison and pain. Flender then comments that the Pit Spider is dying, so San needs to deliver the last blow and absorb the Ring. |

San states that he will absorb the Ring in the Well and that they should not go near it until he is done because the Well is dangerous. San then picks up the Pit Spider with his vines and leaves for the basin. Erlong then tells Wu that whether San’s choices are right or wrong she should always support him, and Wu agrees with her. Flender then pulls Xiaogang away for a talk and Erlong thinks that she knows now why Xiaogang chose to take on San as a disciple, and that she hopes that ‘her kids’ can be happy.
In the basin San is having a little trouble absorbing the Ring and has a vision of falling off Hell’s Peak, as well as experiencing the whole life flashing before your eyes thing, before feeling like he’s being drug down under water by hands. Back with Flender and Xiaogang Flender demands to know if Xiaogang is going to continue with the way things are with Erlong. Xiaogang states that he doesn’t know and Flender comments that if he wasn’t his brother he’d beat him, to which Xiaogang states he wants to beat himself for causing her pain. Flender says that Erlong has been waiting 20 years for Xiaogang and will accept no one else, and Xiaogang says that if he stays by her side he will only hurt her. Flender sighs and asks if he loves her, to which Xiaogang states of course he does. Flender then says that since he knows Erlong loves Xiaogang as well then technically they are already together, so what’s the problem. Flender then states that if it bothers Xiaogang so much then they can just love each other mentally and not push for a physical relationship, just love each other with their hearts. Xiaogang pauses, before happily thanking Flender and running back to the others Back with the group Wu is pacing in worry and Erlong is reassuring her, but also having flashbacks of her ‘wedding’. Xiaogang makes it back to the group, before running forward and grabbing Erlong in a hug, saying that he’s sorry for keeping her waiting. Erlong tears up, saying that she’s waited long days and nights for him, and asks if he’s going to run away again, to which Xiaogang says no and that he will not leave her again. Xiaogang states that they may not be a normal couple but that he loves her and Erlong states that it doesn’t matter as long as he stays with her, and he hugs her again. Flender returns as well and tears up again. Wu then turns in hope of seeing San, and gets depressed again when she doesn’t, something which Erlong and Xiaogang notice and the two of them walk over to reassure her together. San meanwhile is having visions of Wu and himself both as kids and teens, and his desire to be with her helps center him and lets him absorb the Ring. Wu feels the moment San absorbs the Ring and rushes off to go to him (causing Erlong to smile), finding him overlooking a small pool of water. They hug and San pulls her to him before using his vines to form a balloon like structure that lifts them into the air as the wind catches it. The two then have a romantic flight over the forest (Aladdin Magic Carpet scene anyone). |

San and Wu rejoin the group (it’s morning now so they were out flying around for a while) and Oscar immediately asks San what his Ring is. San asks if they want him to show them and Oscar says he’s the first of them with a 10,000 year Ring, so of course. San then brings out his Soul, the Grass having turned black and red, and uses his 4th ability Blue Silver Prison to lock Oscar in a cage of vines, which happened instantly and with no build up Power. Mubai pokes at it before hitting it with his Power coating his fist, cracking it on his first hit then breaking it on his second. Oscar comments that he’s surprised that’s all it does before San smiles and activates it again, suddenly encasing the teachers in their own cages at the same time. Everyone is amazed and Flender states that it is a Crowd Control Ability, which is usually only possibly gained after level 50. Xiaogang then states that while the cages may break, it takes time to break them and that time may be the difference for victory or defeat. Hongjun asks San if it can be combined with his Fourth Ring and San states of course, it’s actually perfect for such a combo. Flender comments that the kids are all really powerful and Erlong teases him about complimenting himself roundaboutly. Flender then announces to the kids that the Tournament is coming up and they need to leave the forest to prepare.
Back at the academy the next morning the kids are outside waiting for their teachers when Xiaogang meets up with them with four other students and Qin Ming with him, confusing the kids. Xiaogang then announces that the four students with him are going to be their substitute teammates before telling the four to introduce themselves. The one with dark spikey hair (think Wolverine from X Men style) goes first, introducing himself as Huang Yuan, a level 35 Power Attack System type with Lone Wolf Soul. Next it a Gothish looking young man introducing himself as Jing Ling, a level 35 Agility Attack System type with Skeleton Soul. After Ling is a pretty brown haired girl who introduces herself as Jiang Zhu, a level 35 Auxiliary Healing System type with Healing Sceptre Soul. And finally is Tai Long, who everybody already knows. Xiaogang states that Erlong has been training these four herself and that if it wasn’t for the Tournament she would have graduated them by now. Oscar asks if substitute teammates are necessary and Xiaogang states that yes they are, mainly because if it’s only the 7 of them for every match they’ll wear themselves down both physically and mentally with facing so many opponents, and that this way they can rotate. Xiaogang then states he’ll explain the rules to them now, saying that the The Continental Advanced Academy Soul Dueling Tournament is organized by the royals of both the Heaven Dou Empire and Star Luo Empire as well as Martial Hall and is considered the greatest competition on the Douluo Continent. The participants of each official school must be under 25 in age, 7 members can compete in each round, and killing is not allowed. Mubai asks what if they kill someone by accident and Xiaogang states they’ll still be disqualified since the Tournament is designed to allow the participants to show off and is not a death match. He continues with the rules, saying only items made by a present Auxiliary System user can be consumed during the fights, and that there can be no weapons other then the Martial Soul used (so no Hidden Weapons). Xiaogang then explains how the battle rosters work, saying that one team each from the Heaven Empire, Star Empire, and Martial Hall will advance automatically to the finals, skipping the Prelims and Qualifying rounds. For the first round of the prelims all the other Academy teams will be fighting in team battles of 7v7 and it will be knockout style (you lose you’re out of the Tournament). After the first round the teams are split into groups. There were then 5 groups of 8 teams and 3 of 9 teams competing in a round-robin type tournament. The rules for each of the round-robin matches will be randomly chosen from one of three situations: Firstly, Single Elimination. Secondly, a 3-man, 2-man, and 2-man Coordination Match. And lastly, a 7v7 Team Fight. This will test the comprehensive strength of every team. Every match will have a lot-drawing preceding the match, and this will determine which situation will be used for that match. Each group advances 2 teams to the knockout stage with 16 teams left. In the elimination rounds each match will be held over two days, and both a team battle and an individual knockout round will be held. Winning the team fight doesn’t mean that you’ll definitely proceed to the next round; if you can defeat all seven of your opponents using only three members, you’ll be able to overturn the outcome of the team match. On the other hand, the team that wins the team fight can guarantee their advance into the next stage by defeating three of their opponents using seven team members. These tournament rules both illustrate the importance of a team’s overall strength and give a chance to teams which have strong individuals. The winner of those proceeds to the finals to face one the three advanced teams, before the two winners of those matches face each other for the win. Xiaogang then states that only 3 of the Shrek Seven Devils will participate in the prelims for each battle, so that they can conceal their strength until later when it can be used to surprise their opponents. He also states the Rongrong will not be participating in the prelims at all and that San is in charge of strategy. Flender then joins them carrying a box and happily tells them that their uniforms are ready. They have a look and are horrified when the design and colors are hideous, with a literal advertisement for Shrek on the back. Flender runs off after he is yelled at for the uniforms and when the kids look beseechingly at Xiaogang he looks away saying to consider it an ordeal for their minds, much to their horror. A couple days later at the Tournament grounds the Shrek team is mostly attempting to hide in embarrassment, but during their avoidance of populated places they run into the team from Blue Sunshine Academy (the same group that Zhao beat up the teacher of before they went into the Star Dou forest the first time). Before the teams can exchange too much banter a man behind Blue Sunshine calls out to know what is going on. |

The man instructs the Blue Sunshine Academy to follow him and they do so without question. Flender remarks that he didn’t know that man taught at that academy, and when Hongjun asks who he is Flender states that he is Shi Nian, Soul Master of Nightmares (uses illusions), and is a hateful man.
Next scene is the gathering of many people for the Opening ceremonies (including a lot of familiar faces from throughout the series) with Emperor of the Heaven Dou Empire Xue Ye overlooking the ceremony while seated presiding over others of the upper Nobility, including Ning Fengzhi, Xue Xing, Salas (of Martial Hall), the three Board of Education members of Imperial Academy, and Princes Xue Qinghe and Xue Beng. Xue Ye casually asks Fengzhi on his thoughts on the Tournament and Fengzhi comments that he knows of a team that might win the Tournament for the Heaven Dou Empire this year. The teams are all introduced, starting with the second team representing the Heaven Dou Imperial Academy (the first team, consisting of Yu Tianheng and his teammates, is the team that got the pass to the finals for the Heaven Dou Empire) which is really popular and leads to Shrek hoping they don’t have to fight them in fear of the crowd hating them when they beat them. The other academies are introduced with Shrek being last (with a lot of people (even the announcer) commenting on their clothes and San stating that they will just prove themselves with their strength). Emperor Xue Ye then gives an announcement to begin the Tournament Ceremony and gives encouragement to all participants, followed by Fengzhi who also gives a short speech where he lets slip that he does favor a team, but won’t say which one. Brief clip of a disguised Tang Hao also watching the Ceremony from a high vantage point. Inside the Arena (the Great Spirit Arena, they are having the Prelims there) Rongrong asks Xiaogang why everyone was given a blue flower. Xiaogang explains that the flower is the most common flower in the Empire (and that the flower represents love) and that the audience is to give their flowers to the Academy they are supporting. Hongjun, who is behind Rongrong, then sneezes from smelling his flower, causing Rongrong’s flower to be blown out of her hand and lost. On the stage Salas is chosen to draw the names of the teams that will be participating against each other in the first rounds. He does so (in an ostentatious way) and Shrek ends up going against the second team of the Imperial Academy for their first round. In their waiting room Shrek is minorly annoyed with having to face Imperial Academy first and Flender decides to give them a goal; defeat them in one minute. The teams are called on stage (with Imperial Academy getting a grand announcement and posing, much to Flender’s annoyance, who complains about sponsors). The Shrek teammates that are not participating it the round (Rongrong, Oscar, Zhuqing, and Hongjun) join the audience and cheer for their teammates (causing many around them to criticize them). Oscar ends up catching Rongrong’s flower that had been floating around the Arena. Over 20,000 flowers are then thrown on the Imperial Academy’s side showing the crowds support of them while Shrek has 0. The leader of the Imperial Academy then makes a big show of jumping on the stage. |
