Description

A metaphysical condensed energy crystalization of spirit power or bloodline essence indicating the advancement of one's martial soul comprehension or one's bloodline's evolution to a higher life stage as well as cultivation foundation. Depending on the source from when a soul core is condensed, the possessor's potential is permanently amplified on the path of that source and the affinity is increased to that source. A soul core functions as a storage collecting unit, allowing the possessor to lessen the rate of loss:recovery of its source. Soul cores can also be voluntarily controlled by their possessors. The soul core can be condensed within living beings by their own cultivation progress. However, there are different types of soul cores, depending on the method used to condense it. Such are standard soul cores that follow the basic rules of soul core formation, as well as divine cores and bloodline cores that exist outside these rules.

A soul core was a synonym for a high level Spirit Master. In general, the solidification would only succeed when one reaches the realm of seven Spirit Rings. As the core of one’s Spirit Power, it would get rid of the old to bring in the new and it would allow the Spirit Master’s combat strength to increase substantially.

The concept of soul cores pre-date mortal humans, existing since the era of the Dragon God and his Douluo Divine Realm as natural cores derived from Divine Beast bloodline essence and Divine Cores of true Gods. Such knowledge was pass down to his Dragon Clan spirit beasts, such as Di Tian, and instinctively to all spirit beasts. Over time, as human spirit masters advanced their cultivation ranks, they encountered the circumstances of soul core condensation after becoming Titled Douluos, allowing advancement in their comprehension and cultivation.

The standard information of a soul core was not widely spread in the cultivation circle until Huo Yuhao's era. At the time, the most knowledgable of soul cores was Di Tian except the Gods of the Divine Realm.

Before Yuhao's era, mortal human Titled Douluo powerhouses condensed soul cores after becoming Titled Douluos through their higher spiritual power and higher physique, as exhibited in the Spirit Ranks of Soul Land and Soul Land II concerning Quasigod Douluos. With the later era's widespread information about soul cores as well as the rise of spiritual power and physique level necessary to contract Spirit Souls, eventually human cultivation ranks at Rank 70+ and Rank 90+ changed to reflect this, as seen in Soul Land III and Soul Land IV.

By Tang Wulin's era, mortal human cultivators have standarized soul core knowledge into cultivation practice, with the condensing of a soul core after attaining Spirit Sage rank as a mark to become a Titled Douluo, a later second soul core after attaining Hyper Douluo rank to mark a potential Limit Douluo and a third soul core at Limit Douluo rank to mark a potential mortal God. Each new soul core may fuse with previous ones or affect them because of the instinct to evolve into a Divine Core.

The common method human cultivators use to form their subsequent soul core is through the resonance technique.

Rules

The limit of standard soul cores a mortal cultivator under the human Rank 100 can condense are three standard soul cores. The first soul core can be easily condensed once reaching an average Titled Douluo (later Spirit Sage) level's spiritual realm and physique. The second soul core can be condensed once as a Hyper/Super Douluo to allow cultivation to a Limit Douluo. The third soul core is a mark to a Limit Douluo for future cultivation and possibility to attain strength to break away from the world's rules (Rank 100) to ascend to the Divine Realm.

The three standard locations of these soul cores are the head's spiritual sea, the chest's heart and the abdomen's dantian. The three soul cores can be condensed at these locations no matter what order depending on the possessor's cultivation path. However, most cultivators condense their first soul core at the their chest for future efficient cultivation. Any failure at forming a soul core at these three locations could minimally stall one's cultivation or permanent damage at that location: vegetable mind, heart rupture or negative cultivation deviation.

The formation of a soul core requires great spiritual power and a high physique level to successful execute. With a higher Spiritual Realm and a Titled Douluo level body that can handle the process's strain, a cultivator can condense the first soul core at the equivalent human Rank 70+.

Hence, if the first soul core still not formed before one turned 40, the Spirit Master will never have the soul core in his or her lifetime.

Beyond human Rank 100, one can condense a Divine Core.

Types of Soul Cores:

  • Soul Core (Standard): A condensed solidification of soul/spirit power (depending on internal source) through high enough spiritual power. The soul core, depending on the location of condensation, can be spiritual or elemental type. These are usually located in the possessor's chest. With Soul Land III, this standard soul core
    • Spiritual Core (Standard): A soul core condensed in the spiritual sea of the possessor, hence its name. It cements one's spiritual realm as completely reaching the Spirit Domain realm. As one of the most dangerous locations during soul core condensation, if the process fails, the possessor most likely will become a vegetable. With Soul Land III, the Spiritual Core became a standard in mortal human cultivation to become a successful Super/Hyper Douluo.
      • Spiritual Dragon Core: A subtype Spiritual Core that can be formed through one's Dragon Clan bloodline after reaching the human Spirit Domain Realm and human Rank 60.
    • Elemental Core (Standard): A soul core condensed from the possessor's affinity and comprehension of the universal elemental laws. The Elemental Core is common among spirit masters and spirit beasts with element related martial souls or law comprehension.
      • This soul core is named _?_?_?_- Core depending on what element source it is condensed from, such as an Ice Core for Huo Yuhao's Ultimate Ice, and Space Core for both Di Tian and Huo Yuhao in their comprehension of Space elemental laws.
    • Races:
      • Spirit Beasts:
        • With their naturally higher physiques than most mortal humans, spirit beasts can voluntarily condense their first soul core with certain success.
      • Humans:
        • A race born with physiques that require rigorous cultivation to improve and handle condensing a soul core, requiring an average Titled Douluo spiritual power and body in Soul Land I and Soul Land II (eventually a Spirit Sage spiritual power [Spirit Sea Realm] and average Titled Douluo body in Soul Land III and Soul Land IV) to condense the first soul core. Unlike spirit beasts, human cultivation has a higher rate of more soul cores.
  • Bloodline Core: It naturally occurs during the cultivation of organisms with high enough bloodline essence concentration, with the core purity dependent on bloodline purity. It once can condensed anytime if the concentration is high enough. The Bloodline Core does not follow the rules of standard soul cores and only restores bloodline essence over time. However, because of the source, this soul core can help evolve both the possessor's physique and spiritual realm.
    • Dragon Core: A soul core derived from one's Dragon Clan bloodine essence concentration.
      • Can be evolved from a previous standard soul core if the possessor's bloodline later changes to the Dragon Clan's or one's original Dragon Clan bloodline increases in purity and concentration
      • Dragon God Core: A subtype soul core derived from the Dragon God bloodline at once the possessor has reached human Rank 50, condensed during a strenuous breakthrough.
      • Spiritual Dragon Core: A subtype Spiritual Core thath can be condensed through one's Dragon Clan bloodline after reaching the human Spirit Domain Realm and human Rank 60.
  • Divine Core: A soul core exhibiting one's divinity. At this stage, the Divine Core can also function as a divine tool if the user has high affinity with the core. This soul core can be condensed after the cultivator attains a God-rank cultivation or a God's Position and it can continously evolve further. Divine cores are divided as:
    • Third Class God rank:
    • Second Class God rank:
    • First Class God rank:
    • God King's Core: These Divine Cores can hold the possessor God's true essence, cultivation and or God's Position. It is essentially the God's heart and resevoir of power. The Divine Cores at this rank can be super divine tools.

Soul Core Condensation Techniques

  • Resonance Technique:
  • Yin Yang Complement Technique:
    • Experience (Huo Yuhao):
    • After the Yin Yang Equilibrium soul cores are formed, the power of the two soul cores will fuse with one another. The powers would be reorganized, purified and compressed after colliding against one another. This allows one's soul power to possess dual core attribute characteristics. At the same time, the brand new soul power will also take the form of a whirlpool. This whirlpool-shaped soul power was definitely the product of the fusion between soul power and spiritual power. It possesses extremely destructive capabilities. At the same time, it is also able to compress soul power to the most compact state possible. The total volume of soul power had increased to three times its original amount after breakthrough. In addition, fighting power has increased to five times what it was before the soul power compression.
    • The brand new soul power produced by the Yin Yang Complement technique is extremely resistant to any external energy or power. The Yin Yang Equilibrium soul cores in the body started to rotate as small whirlpools of soul power started to circulate within the meridian passageways, releasing a mystical sensation. Even though it was unbelievably tough to use the Yin Yang Complement technique to cultivate one’s second soul core, it promised many incredible benefits after it was completed.
    • Having a second soul core formed from the Yin Yang Complement technique granted regenerative ability that was far beyond that of a (Soul Land II) Titled Douluo or Super/Hyper Douluo, who both only had one soul core.

Trivia

  • The soul core is similar to the Jindan/Golden Cores that other xanxia novels' cultivations have.
  • In Soul Land III, the soul core is also referred as the spirit core.
